It’s Ubin Day today, marking the end of the two-week Pesta Ubin celebration, which saw over 1,000 participants! 🎉
Here are some Ubin updates:
📖 NParks has launched a new e-publication, An Update of the Biodiversity in Pulau Ubin, based on comprehensive biodiversity surveys across 11 taxonomic groups. It recorded 1,300 native fauna species, including 26 new records for Singapore and two species new to science, as well as over 550 native flora species. One of these newly discovered species is Anomala sp. aff. matricula (sp. nov.), a scarab beetle discovered right here on Pulau Ubin. 🪲
🐸 The Cryptic Painted Frog (Nyctixalus crypticus sp. nov.) has established a breeding population on Pulau Ubin under our Species Recovery Programme — an encouraging sign for the species’ long-term survival.

Male Pink-necked Green Pigeons (Treron vernans) are easily recognised by their bright pink neck and orange lower breast, while females are uniformly green in colour. 🩷💚
Unlike typical pigeons with cooing calls, they communicate using unique whistling and quacking noises. Spot them high up in the canopy on tall trees feeding on a wide variety of fruits where they act as important seed dispersers in the ecosystem.
