Just like its name suggests, the Water Chestnut (Eleocharis dulcis) thrives in water-inundated areas like ponds, swamps, marshes and shallow lakes. Their underground horizontal stems produce edible tubers that can be added to soups, salads or vegetable dishes. Researchers have also found that the tuber’s peel or outer skin may have anti-diabetic properties! 📸: Vicky Lim Yen Ngoh

High Rise Syndrome (HRS) is a term veterinarians use to describe injuries sustained by cats when they jump or fall from inappropriate heights. Contrary to popular belief, cats do not always land safely on their feet.   An indoor kitty is a safe kitty! Always secure your windows, with mesh or grill that have gaps small enough to contain your cat indoors. Let’s keep our cats safe! For more information on the Cat Management Framework, visit https://go.gov.sg/cat-ownership
