| 2 | Woke up to this horrible news. I couldn’t feel anything. Just one big exhaustion. Our mind always goes to “solutions.” But isn’t that a subtle way of blaming the victim? If you’re a young woman, it could be a survival instinct. To know what not to do to get this fate. But mostly when our minds come up with “if she did this and that, maybe she wouldn’t have been subjected to this” we are putting implicit blame.
What is there to do? Just cry and complain aloud when this keeps happening? We should know how far misogyny and sexism can go in practice? Raise them in double standards, make them feel like they are entitled to get a yes, show them the cost of violence against women is negotiable. Romanticize “love”, justify anything in the name of rejection and heartbreak. And this is what you get week after week.
By all means support women’s rights. By all means raise responsible sons. By all means oppose those who use your pure and holy religion as a weapon. By all means fight double standards.
Rest in peace. Yordanos. Justice for You. I hope one day these senseless news will be history. Some people have a hard time distinguishing between just another “murder” and a femicide or gender based violence. If it’s about her sexual or romantic value or refusal, it’s gender based. If it’s supported by what women should or shouldn’t do, it’s gender based. If it’s physically possible because she is probably weaker than him, it’s gender based. If it’s something that sends a silent and scary message to women in a way it doesn’t to us men, it’s Gender Based Violence. Period. It’s not just another sad murder.
