I kept thinking about it when this Bible passage dropped into my heart:
"Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven." — Matthew 5:14–16
Letting your light shine, as Jesus mentioned here, wasn't just a suggestion—it was more like a command.
From His words, it’s clear that letting our light shine before men means doing good works.
So I spent some time pondering this.
First, am I really doing good works?
You know that feeling of "what you ordered vs. what you got" trends 😂—where a customer pays for 12 yards of material, and you somehow convert it to 3 and a half yards?
Or when someone pays for quality work, and you deliver something completely substandard? I know some of us who have lived in those environments can relate.
The truth is, those kinds of experiences don’t reflect good works at all.
And what scares me the most is what Jesus said at the end of that verse—that men may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.
So if our work is terrible, we’re actually blocking the glory that people should be giving to God. And would we be exempt from His judgment? No. Because God will not share His glory with any man.
How many times have we truly done good works that bring glory to God?
If not, I think now is a good time to repent—and ask the Lord to give us understanding and wisdom, so we can do good works that shine before men and draw them to glorify God.
