Anthropic's closed-loop Claude Mythos Preview model found a new vulnerability in the HAWK algorithm
This is, by the way, one of the candidates for a post-quantum digital signature standard.
In just 60 hours, the AI found a mathematical pattern that reduced the attack complexity against a test version of the algorithm from 2⁶² to 2³⁸. The model also accelerated the attack against a simplified version of AES-128 by approximately 200-800 times.
However, there is no real threat to the crypto industry yet: HAWK is not yet in use anywhere, and the full-fledged AES-128 remains uncrackable.
The main conclusion is that modern AI is already capable of independently finding cryptographic vulnerabilities that previously took specialists months or even years to find.
