EIC ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN COMPETITION The Association of Ethiopian Architects (AEA), in collaboration with the Ethiopian Insurance Corporation (EIC), is inviting Category I Consulting Architects (CA) and Consulting Architects & Engineers (CAE) who are AEA Firm Members to submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) for the: EIC Eastern District 3B+G+17 Mixed Commercial Building Project – Architectural Design Competition. Five more Ethiopian cities, one growing collection. There’s Hawassa, where life revolves around the lake, Jinka down in the landscapes of South Omo, and Debre Tabor up in the cool highlands. Then there’s Ziway, known for its fish, islands and birdlife, and Ambo, where the famous springs and mineral water have become part of the city’s identity.

Ethiopia Hotel, one of the country's oldest hospitality establishments and a landmark on Yohannes St., has begun to come down. Demolition is already underway at the conference hall at the rear. Crews are working in the parking area behind corrugated iron sheets, and the main building is slated to follow within days. Its remaining life is not expected to stretch beyond October this year. "The repression against the Ethiopians for the attack on #AddisAbeba & the disruption of the #railwayline had its #heroes. The first important one was #AbunePetros. After a staged public trial for participation in the attack on the capital, the #bishop was shot on 30 July 1936 in a #PublicSquare. (Other sources say 29th of July). The ppn. was shocked, and the action undermined public confidence in the #Italiangovernment. The excution was considered an act of folly, & worsened the already poor Italian reputation for indiscrimenately killing high-ranking Ethiopian personalities." ~ Ethiopia under Mussolini, Fascism & Colonial experience, Alberto Sbacchi, Third world books, Zed Books Ltd., London, 1985, p.184 The 1st statue of Abune Petros memorial near St George Cathedral was erected in 1939 by Emperor Haile Selassie up on his return from exile. The National Bank of Ethiopia (now CBE) is one of the modernist jewels of Addis Abeba. The building was designed by the legendary Architect Henri Chomette and one of his directors at the Ethiopia office, architect Romain Von Seela, and inaugurated in 1963. It houses the National Bank of Ethiopia, consisting of two volumes, one vertical for the administration, and the other, a rural dwelling- 'toucoules' inspired hemispherical hall that is covered with a concrete woven into a skylight, majestic rotunda. The whole, designed according to the golden ratio, is made of concrete-armored aluminum frames and marble floors. የቱ ተብሎ የቱ እስከሚተው ድረስ ነው ቅርስ ላይ ያንዣበበው አላዋቂነት ፣ ግዴለሽነት እና ማናለብኝነት የከተማውን የሥነ-ኪነ-ሕንፃ ሀብቶች አደጋ ላይ የጣለው! ይህ ታሪካዊና እጅግ ከፍተኛ የከተማና የሥነ-ኪነ-ሕንፃ ፋይዳ ያለው ሕንፃ ቢሆንም ባለፉት ዓመታት በተመሳሳይ ተቋም ሌሎች ቅርንጫፎች ላይ ንድፉን አጓጉል ለመድገም መሞከሩ ሳያንስ ይህን የመሰለ የእይታ እክል (ብክለት) ከፊቱ መደቀን ምን ይባላል? መልስ የለውም ቢቆጭ እንጂ!
