Road Construction Equipment – Explanation 1. Motor Grader – Levels and shapes the road surface. 2. Soil Compactor – Compacts soil to create a strong foundation. 3. Asphalt Roller – Compacts hot asphalt for a smooth surface. 4. Asphalt Paver – Spreads asphalt evenly on the road. 5. Backhoe Loader – Used for digging, loading, and small excavation work. 6. Dump Truck – Transports soil, sand, stone, and other materials. 7. Water Tanker – Supplies water for soil compaction and dust control. 8. Road Sweeper – Cleans dust and debris from the road surface. 9. Tire Roller – Provides final compaction and improves asphalt density. 10. Concrete Mixer – Mixes and transports concrete for road structures. 11. Excavator – Used for major excavation and earthmoving work. 12. Skid Steer Loader – Used for loading, grading, and small construction tasks. In short: Different machines work together to build a strong, smooth, and durable road. #RoadConstruction #ConstructionEquipment #CivilEngineering #HighwayEngineering #Infrastructure

How Does a Box Culvert Handle Floodwater? A box culvert carries rainwater and floodwater safely under roads. Water enters through the opening, flows through the reinforced concrete box, and exits downstream—helping prevent road flooding and erosion. Progress is happening — but not fast enough. Countries are improving water management and expanding access to water and sanitation, but the world is still off track to achieve #SDG6 by 2030. To reach everyone with safe drinking water, current rates of progress must increase eightfold. Water stress, data gaps and declining aid are making the challenge even greater. The United Nations SDG 6 Synthesis Report on Water and Sanitation 2026 explains what is holding progress back — and what needs to change. Your home is not separate from the climate crisis. It's part of the solution. 🌱 For decades, climate policy talked about energy grids, industry and transport - and treated housing as an afterthought. Between 2003 and 2023, only 3.5% of global climate finance supported informal settlements or the urban poor (Cities Alliance, 2024). That's changing. UN-Habitat's latest analysis of the newest generation of national climate plans (NDCs 3.0) found that 45% now include housing or informal settlements. Almost half of all governments are now recognizing that where and how people live shapes national emissions and resilience. What does that look like in practice? ✅ Energy-efficient design ✅ Renewable energy built into homes and communities ✅ Sustainable, lower-carbon building materials ✅ Trees for cooler, more livable homes ✅ Walkable neighbourhoods, less car dependence ✅ Disaster-resilient construction 📍Ethiopia is one country putting this into action, building climate resilience into housing. Integrated upgrades to drainage, water and sanitation have helped reduce slum populations nationwide. This shift is significant because housing sits at the intersection of nearly every climate priority: emissions, adaptation, and human wellbeing all at once. As more and more countries include housing in their NDCs, it’s now time for NDC 3.0 implementation. Read the full analysis on housing in the "Urban Content in NDC 3.0: Cities at the Centre" report https://unhabitat.org/urban-content-in-ndc-30-cities-at-the-centre #NDCs #ClimateResilience

Ever wonder what keeps an underwater tunnel safe hundreds of feet below sea level? 🌊🚇 These engineering marvels—often built using Immersed Tube technology—are pre-cast in massive segments, floated into place, sunk into an excavated seabed trench, and connected under water. Key engineering layers that make it work: Double-Deck Design: Separates high-capacity vehicular traffic on top from high-speed rail systems below. Massive Support Shell: Reinforced high-density concrete lined with an outer steel casing resists enormous hydrostatic water pressure. Vital Life-Support Systems: Giant jet fans maintain fresh air circulation and clear exhaust, alongside built-in fire suppression and drainage pumps. Safety First: Seismic joint seals allow flex during earthquakes, while integrated emergency evacuation stairwells connect the levels for quick egress. Modern civil engineering turns impossible ocean crossings into daily commutes. 🏗️✨ #Engineering #CivilEngineering #Infrastructure #MegaProjects #HowItWorks #Architecture

Cambodia Strongly Protests Thai PM’s Unauthorised Visit to Sovereign Territory in Preah Vihear PHNOM PENH, 25 August 2026 — Cambodia has lodged what it describes as its strongest protest against the visit of the Prime Minister of Thailand to the An Seh area in Choam Ksan District, Preah Vihear Province, on 23 August, according to a statement issued by Cambodia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. The Royal Government of Cambodia said the visit was unauthorised and constituted a deliberate attempt to assert what it described as illegitimate claims over Cambodian sovereign territory. In its statement, Phnom Penh said the area has been under what it considers illegal occupation by Thai armed forces since last year, stressing that an unlawful act cannot create legal rights. Cambodia therefore said the Thai prime minister’s visit could not legitimise Thailand’s presence or territorial claims in the area. Cambodia further argued that the visit amounted to a grave violation of Cambodian sovereign territory, as defined and delimited by the 1:200,000-scale maps produced by the commissions responsible for delimiting the boundary between Indochina and Siam. The Cambodian government also pointed to Item I of the Joint Statement of the 3rd Special General Border Committee (GBC) Meeting on 27 December 2025, which it said explicitly prohibits provocative actions that could escalate tensions along the border. Cambodia stressed that neither a unilaterally drawn map nor a visit based on such a map can alter the internationally recognized boundary. The Royal Government further reiterated that it does not accept any boundary line or territorial claim unilaterally asserted by Thailand, and said the Thai prime minister’s visit would not prejudice Cambodia’s legal rights or position regarding its international boundary. Cambodia called on Thailand to cease such actions in the areas mentioned in the statement, as well as in other areas that Cambodia says have been unlawfully occupied by Thai armed forces since last year. According to the statement, the objective is to de-escalate the situation, build mutual trust, facilitate a peaceful settlement of disputes, and restore peace, stability and good-neighbourly relations along the Cambodia–Thailand border. The Cambodian government reaffirmed that it remains committed to resolving boundary disputes with Thailand exclusively through peaceful means, in accordance with international law and existing bilateral agreements, while maintaining its position that borders must not be changed by force.
