An effective highway drainage system is one of the most critical elements of road infrastructure. While often hidden from view, it plays a fundamental role in protecting pavement performance, improving traffic safety, and extending the lifespan of the entire roadway.
Successful drainage design begins with understanding surface runoff, road cross slopes, longitudinal gradients, curb and gutter systems, side ditches, catch basins, stormwater inlets, culverts, subsurface drainage, retaining wall drainage, bridge deck drainage, erosion control, retention and detention ponds, oil-water separators, and sustainable stormwater management strategies.
A well-designed drainage network quickly removes water from the pavement, reduces hydroplaning risks, prevents structural deterioration, minimizes erosion, and protects surrounding ecosystems.
