Dear Christian, are you resisting the world by relying on self or faith in Christ? As children born of God, we don’t overcome worldly temptations and pressures by sheer effort. 𝑾𝒆 𝒐𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒄𝒐𝒎𝒆 𝒃𝒚 𝒘𝒉𝒐 𝒘𝒆 𝒂𝒓𝒆 𝒊𝒏 𝑪𝒉𝒓𝒊𝒔𝒕. "Who is it that overcomes the world? Only the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God." (1 John 5:5) Believing that Jesus is the Son of God means we trust in His finished work and rely on His divine strength to choose obedience and holiness over rebellion and compromise. In ancient times, the priest would encourage the Israelites with these words before they went into battle. Today, we are encouraged by Jesus our High Priest when we face spiritual battles. 💪 God isn’t asking us to deny the reality of the obstacles and difficulties in our path. But we’re called to recognise a greater truth: 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝒗𝒊𝒄𝒕𝒐𝒓𝒊𝒐𝒖𝒔 𝑺𝒂𝒗𝒊𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒊𝒔 𝒘𝒊𝒕𝒉 𝒖𝒔. God has proven Himself powerful and faithful before—that’s why we can trust Him! Her daughter’s PSLE results, however, devastated her. In this piece published some time back, Pau Lin opens up on her PSLE regrets—and God’s hand in it all. 📚 𝗥𝗘𝗔𝗗 full article: https://bit.ly/from-regret-to-revelation-a-mothers-psle-journey

After sin entered the world, we became eternally separated from God. Nobody’s work could save or reconcile us with Him. But in loving kindness, our Heavenly Father gave us grace through His Son. In Christ’s victorious work on the cross, we were justified and saved, reconciled with God for eternity (Tit 3:4-7). 𝑶𝒏𝒄𝒆 𝒘𝒆 𝒘𝒆𝒓𝒆 𝒔𝒕𝒓𝒂𝒏𝒈𝒆𝒓𝒔, 𝒃𝒖𝒕 𝒏𝒐𝒘 𝒘𝒆 𝒂𝒓𝒆 𝒎𝒆𝒎𝒃𝒆𝒓𝒔 𝒐𝒇 𝑮𝒐𝒅’𝒔 𝒉𝒐𝒖𝒔𝒆𝒉𝒐𝒍𝒅 (Eph 2:19). What kind of treasure are we storing up for future generations? Besides historical buildings and cultural stories, there is something far more 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐨𝐮𝐬. This National Day, even as we recite the pledge as proud Singaporeans, may we also say: “With my lips I recount all the laws that come from your mouth.” (Ps 119:13) As we sing our favourite NDP songs, may we also declare: “Your decrees are the theme of my song wherever I lodge.” (v. 54) 𝑩𝒍𝒆𝒔𝒔𝒆𝒅 𝑵𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒂𝒍 𝑫𝒂𝒚 𝒕𝒐 𝑺𝒊𝒏𝒈𝒂𝒑𝒐𝒓𝒆 🇸🇬🎆🎉 Discover 3 reasons why God's Word is our best heritage: https://go.odb.sg/qwVsA6

The falsehoods and deception we need to guard against today are not unlike that of the early church, though technology and media have amplified their reach and influence. Yet we are not left defenceless and defeated. God reminds us that we are His children and the Holy Spirit living in us helps us discern and overcome the spirit of falsehood. Dear friends, fear not. Our attention turns to National Day whenever August comes around. The preparations we make and our expressions of patriotism prove that being Singaporean plays an important part in our identity. As Christians, we can also be reminded that we hold “dual citizenship”: in Singapore and in the kingdom of our heavenly Father. Let us remember the identity we have in Christ regardless of where we belong on this temporal earth. What are some things that make you feel uniquely Singaporean? How can we live with our “dual citizenship” on earth and in heaven at the same time? Read more here: https://odb.sg/faith-and-life/why-should-i-care-about-paying-taxes/

The first word that comes to mind when we think of trials is probably not joy. Distress, discouragement, defeat—these are more likely descriptors. 😅 Though the words “trials” and “joy” seem contradictory at first glance, James encourages us to take on a godly, growth-minded perspective. We can have joy because we know that trials aren’t the end but are the means by which we grow in perseverance and maturity. 📈 We can take heart because “in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose” (Rom 8:28). Perhaps our idea of discipline has been shaped by our experiences with our parents (or fearsome discipline masters) in our growing up years. 😬 “They disciplined us for a little while as they thought best” (Heb 12:10), using imperfect methods that yielded imperfect outcomes. But God is different—He disciplines us as He 𝒌𝒏𝒐𝒘𝒔 best. We can trust that His discipline is for our ultimate good and His methods are consistently 𝒍𝒐𝒗𝒆 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒈𝒓𝒂𝒄𝒆. ❤️

Here are some of God’s promises that we can cling to when we feel anxious, afraid, or insecure. 📚 𝗥𝗘𝗔𝗗 full article: https://bit.ly/when-your-heart-fears-know-this-god-always-keeps-his-promises

God’s love is both unconditional and transformational. He welcomes us just as we are—but He doesn’t leave us the same. Though the process of correction and change can be painful and uncomfortable, let’s focus on our Father’s love for us. He loves us too much to turn a blind eye to the wrong turns and detours we take. By embracing His life-saving discipline, we have the assurance that we’re 𝒈𝒓𝒐𝒘𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒕𝒐 𝒃𝒆 𝒎𝒐𝒓𝒆 𝒍𝒊𝒌𝒆 𝑱𝒆𝒔𝒖𝒔. 🤗 Wondering if you're going through a season of discipline? Metalsmiths subject precious metals like gold and silver to extreme heat, to refine them. In the same way God allows trials in our life to refine us, because our faith is precious to Him.
