🌏 Shangri-La Dialogue 2026: False Dichotomies, Real Consequences 💬 A commentary on the changing dynamics at SLD26 and the enduring importance of defence diplomacy amid a more uncertain global security environment was written by Defence Minister Chan Chun Sing and published in The Straits Times on 15 Jun 26. THREE FALSE DICHOTOMIES ✅ Talking vs Arming: Dialogue without credible defence carries no weight, but building up forces without engaging neighbours risks accidental conflict. Both are needed. ✅ Short term vs Long term: Focusing only on immediate crises while ignoring future challenges like cyber warfare leaves nations unprepared. Smart defence planning addresses both prevention and response. ✅ Rules vs Pragmatism: Discarding international rules entirely in favour of transactional dealings leads to unpredictability and a cut throat international environment where everyone loses. 🤝 DM Chan also noted that the real work of defence diplomacy happens away from the cameras, in closed door meetings where strategic trust and partnerships are built. The enduring value of the SLD laid in building trust, partnerships, and communication channels among defence leaders, helping to preserve peace through sustained engagement rather than public confrontation. 💪 The SLD underscores Singapore’s commitment to defence diplomacy. 📡 The Radar Roundup – 12 Jun 26 🚁 AFTC - 206 SQN visit to Airbus Asia Training Centre Controllers, take the wheel! 124 SQN hosted personnel from 206 SQN for some hands-on time on the EC120B simulators at the Airbus Asia Training Centre. Our PLAB tribe got a front-row seat to the various ongoing Smart Airbase developments, where they exchanged ideas and better understood how these initiatives are shaping tomorrow’s airbases. 🚶 PC - Oakey Det Walkathon To mark 30 years of CH operations, the Oakey Det left their “mark” on Toowoomba by walking a route that literally spelled out “CH30” across the city (30km in 5 hours and 40 minutes!). Here's to three decades of excellence, and many more kilometres ahead! ❤️📦 ACC - PC V CIP PC V’s Buccaneers stepped off base and into the community, partnering with El-Ada Community Action Partnership and the United States Postal Service to collect, sort, and pack donated food for families in need. 👮 AFTC - Civil Defence Academy Visit to AFTC AFTC hosted the Civil Defence Academy for a reciprocal visit on 18 May, giving the team an inside look at the organisation and how AFTC is raising the bar for training realism and effectiveness. ✈️ APGC - PLAB VIP Flight Transit Facilitation SLD 2026 wouldn’t have been possible without Team PLAB, who showed up through early mornings, late nights and weekends without missing a beat! 🏆 RSAF Safety Innovation Award - Controlled Movement Area Web-App 🚨 WARNING: YOU ARE ENTERING A CONTROLLED MOVEMENT AREA. PLEASE TAKE CAUTION. 🗺 What started as a simple Google Maps overlay by ME1 Karthik Pillai is now an interactive web-based application that helps personnel navigate around controlled movement areas within our airbases. By combining live location tracking with active video and audio alerts, the web-app developed by PTE Bernie Lee enhances users’ situational awareness to reduce inadvertent incursions and improve operational safety. 🔗 Read more here. @rsaftribe

📡 The Radar Roundup – 22 May 26 ♨️ ADOC - ADOC Commander Conference NE Tour Members of ADOC Commander Conference turned up the heat at Sembawang Hot Spring Park - learning about the history and origins of Singapore’s only natural hot spring. 🚭 APGC - SBAB Smoking Cessation Workshop 2026 “My secret is no secret, my secret is no cigarette.” In conjunction with World No Tobacco Week, SBAB organised a Smoking Cessation Workshop at Heli Rock Café. Attendees gained valuable insights into the harmful effects of smoking and vaping, and learned practical steps to quit successfully. ❤️ APGC - 206 SQN x Willing Hearts CIP 206 SQN and their families spent a fulfilling Saturday volunteering at Willing Hearts. Working side-by-side to prepare meals for the community fostered deep camaraderie and strengthened the Squadron’s shared spirit of volunteerism. 🏫 ACC - Peace Carvin V Honors Military Children at Stephensen Elementary School Personnel from Peace Carvin V engaged with students, faculty and staff from Stephensen Elementary School to honour the resilience of military-connected children, and strengthen community ties during the Month of the Military Child. @rsaftribe

📡 The Radar Roundup – 15 May 26 ⚽ UC - HAEL SHIELD CHAMPIONS 2026 GOAL!!! 1 & 9 AELG brought the HAEL Shield home with a dominant 4 - 1 victory over HQ APGC & AELD, putting on a strong display of heart, resilience and team spirit. Kudos to the team for their victory and to the entire UC family. ❤️ PC x APGC - 120 SQN and IMF AH Combined APEX DAY CIP Big helicopters, bigger hearts. 120 SQN and IMF AH went from the flight line to Willing Hearts, coming together to serve the community by supporting food distribution efforts for those in need. 🔨 ADOC - 1 AELG x 9 AELG FOT 1 AELG and 9 AELG came together to exchange insights into network, C2 capabilities and maintenance support which sustains the RSAF’s mission 24/7. Visits to 202 and 203 SQN gave both type groups a hands-on look at each other’s tools and systems, and also a deeper appreciation of their unique roles and contributions to the RSAF. @rsaftribe

📡 The Radar Roundup – 8 May 26 💫 A long time ago in a Command not far away…May the Force be with our tribe for this roundup of highlights!  🌳 AWTI Green Shield Initiative AWTl joined the “Green Side” to celebrate World Earth Day, collecting 4.9kg of e-waste and donating 120 textile pieces. The initiative reinforced our everyday actions to reduce environmental impacts and build a sustainable RSAF! 🚒 Paracounsellors Learning Visit to SCDF No need for Jedi Mind Tricks when the tech is this good! APGC Paracounsellors visited Singapore’s first smart fire station to learn how SCDF supports their personnel in high-pressure environments. They toured advanced VR simulators and training facilities to see how SCDF stay mission-ready and resilient. 💪 165 SQN APEX Visit 165 SQN headed to the Harmony Diversity Gallery to explore the different faiths and cultures that anchor Singapore’s diversity, reminding us that mutual respect is the heartbeat of our nation’s peace. A unified Force, we must remain!
