I personally have an augmented blend of Pagan-Nietzschen and Tantric Buddhist approach. (Per usual for me).
You have to pursue becoming the Übermensch or Enlightenment and view it like a ladder.
Each rung of the way you can reach down and help others up to your rung.
But you mustn't lose sight of the next rung by debasing yourself and going down a rung.
Putting a hand down to lift up or teaching one how to build a latter is one thing.
Becoming crabs in a bucket keeps all of us from ever rising up. And only those who are able to get to the next rung can offer a hand to those below. | 178 |

| 12 |  Why did people in Old Russia put out fires… with MILK?
In Old Russia, it was believed that rain, accompanied by thunder and lightning, were the echo of a battle between Perun, the god of thunder, and Veles, the patron of livestock. After the thunder god's victory, rain pours down on Earth and the air feels especially fresh, as if the air has been purified. The Slavs explained this by saying that Perun drove out all evil spirits during the battle.
If a fire broke out during a thunderstorm, no one rushed to put it out with water. Instead, they ran for milk. People believed that ordinary liquid would not extinguish a fire caused by "divine lightning" – it would only make it worse. Only something pure, such as milk, could quell it. As a last resort, ‘kvass’ (a bread-based drink) or beer could be used. Fearing "stray" ball lightning, villagers would smear their door and window frames with milk, believing it the best protection.
With the arrival of Christianity, Perun's functions were partially "taken over" by Elijah the Prophet. People believed that he, like Perun, traveled across the sky in a chariot and struck down demons with lightning bolts. It was believed that lightning always struck those places where evil lurked. If a person died from a lightning strike, it could be considered confirmation of their association with evil spirits, or, conversely, evidence of God's mercy.

Saints and Gods of cities. Since the times of Greece, Rome and Rus each city has it's patron. For example Ksenia and Lada. Ksenia lost her husband and worn his uniform to remember him. She does not even answer to her own name but the name of her husband. She helps families and people to find spouses and help children heal. Lada is the Goddess of beauty and love. | 19 |  Did you know that Tsarist Russia had its own ‘Halloween’ pumpkins?
It was believed that, during ‘Svyatki’, the period between Christmas and Epiphany, the boundary between the worlds of the living and the dead were less secure. Caroling festivities were often held during this time. Participants, known as ‘ryazhenye’ (‘mummers’), dressed as devils or animals and went from house to house singing Christmas carols.
The scarier the costumes, the better. Among other things, they were supposed to serve an important function: to ward off uninvited guests from the world of the dead and to moderately frighten the living. In addition to costumes, in the late 19th and first half of the 20th centuries, mummers also used accessories for this purpose. For example… a pumpkin, from which they carved a luminary. This is discussed by Dmitry Gromov and Bogumil Gasanov, authors of the study ‘Halloween and Svyatki: Two Fates of One Pumpkin’.
The flesh was removed, “teeth” were carved out, a candle was placed inside and then, impaled on a stick, it was taken to scare the villagers. Revellers would usually knock on a window and hold the eerie effigy up to it. The Slavic ‘Jack-o'-Lantern’ had an immediate effect: some crossed themselves, others cried out in surprise. The satisfied mummers then went on to do mischief at another house.
Sometimes, such a pumpkin was dubbed a ‘svezda’ (‘star’) and was used as a Bethlehem pumpkin, carried by the leading caroller. And, if the desired vegetable couldn't be found for some reason, similar ones, such as zucchini, were used instead.
