| 2 |  I used to love the aesthetic of the Middle Ages. But, at some point, the penny drops that what we really love are the Romantic Era artists such as the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood.
Artists such as John William Waterhouse gave us inspired art depicting an idealized view of the medieval past. Yet, most of the themes were actually Pagan. Brythonic Pagan origins was one favorite theme of Waterhouse and other Pre-Raphaelite artists.
The art produced during periods when Christianity was still the dominant force in Europe, when the Catholic Church commissioned the art that survives from the period, the art is, to put it bluntly, ugly. It is boring, uninspired, lifeless art.
Depictions of the Middle Ages became vibrant, romantic, mystical and magical when the era was viewed through a lens by later periods which had more spiritual freedom.

| 3 | Actually this deed with the boats wasn’t done by Vikings/Ragnar, it was done by Prince Oleg of Novgorod (died c. 912) who is considered the foundational ruler of the Kievan Rus', the medieval state that is regarded as the predecessor to modern Russia, Ukraine, and Belarus.
According to the 12th-century Russian Primary Chronicle, Prince Oleg of Novgorod (Oleg the Wise) carried his boats over land during his campaign against Constantinople in 907 AD.

Around 410 B.C. In Athens, which was then celebrating Dionysus with the tragedies of Sophocles and Euripides, a large monument decorated with reliefs of bacchantes had to be built. It was undoubtedly intended to honor the memory of some winner in dramatic contests, and its motifs had lasting success, being imitated on multiple occasions. From four of these maenad reliefs, attributed to Callimachus.
The maenads were legendary nurses of Dionysus, who protected him in his childhood and became his first followers. However, the Dionysian cult involved the conversion into maenads or bacchantes of those women who, seized by Bacchic ecstasy, danced until exhaustion at the god's festivals, waved their thyrsus, wore the nebris or fawn skin and destroyed animals, feeding on its raw meat.
