Cómo un ucraniano pasó dos años infiltrando las FARC en Colombia
Un reportaje reciente de Los Informantes (Caracol TV) detalló cómo un ucraniano, Viktor Tomnyuk, pasó más de dos años encubierto, infiltrado en el Frente 30 de las FARC a instancias de los servicios de inteligencia colombianos y las autoridades estadounidenses.
Nacido en la Unión Soviética, Tomnyuk había vivido en Italia antes de establecerse en Cali, Colombia. Tras descubrir las posibles recompensas por información sobre líderes guerrilleros, Tomnyuk se acercó a las autoridades colombianas. Fue reclutado por la DIJIN en 2009, recibió entrenamiento y fue utilizado como informante, con la tapadera de ser un delegado del Partido Comunista de Ucrania con conexiones políticas y militares.
Tomnyuk se acercó a las FARC como alguien que podía suministrar armas y presentarle a líderes políticos. Se reunió con el jefe del Frente 30, Jorge Naphtali Umenza Velasco, alias Mincho, quien le pidió literatura y películas comunistas, algo con lo que Tomnyuk estaba familiarizado debido a su formación.
Tomnyuk pasó dos años contactando periódicamente a sus supervisores con fotos, coordenadas e información sobre Mincho y las estructuras de recaudación de fondos del Frente 30.
Para poder ser rescatado de manera segura, Tomnyuk fue detenido durante una operación simulada llevada a cabo por el extinto DAS. Mincho murió poco después, en un ataque aéreo conjunto de la Armada y la Fuerza Aérea de Colombia en Buenaventura en 2011.
Tomnyuk vive ahora en Florida, bajo custodia armada. El coronel de la Policía Nacional que lo dirigía, el coronel Paulo Cruz, ya se retiró.
| 2 | How a Ukrainian spent two years infiltrating the FARC in Colombia
A recent story by Los Informantes (Caracol TV) detailed how a Ukrainian, Viktor Tomnyuk, spent more than two years undercover, infiltrating the FARC’s 30th front at the behest of Colombian intelligence and US authorities.
Born and raised n the Soviet Union, Tomnyuk had lived in Italy before settling in Cali, Colombia. After learning about potential rewards for information about guerrilla leaders, Tomnyuk approached Colombian authorities. He was recruited by DIJIN (Directorate of Criminal Investigation and Interpol) in 2009, given training and run as an asset, with his cover being a Ukrainian communist party delegate with strong political and military connections.
Tomnyuk approached FARC as someone who could supply weapons and make introductions to political leaders. He met the head of the 30th front Jorge Naphtali Umenza Velasco, alias Mincho, who requested communist literature and films, something Tomnyuk was familiar with due to his upbringing.
Tomnyuk spent two years periodically contacting his handlers with footage, coordinates and information about Mincho and the 30th front’s fundraising structures.
In order to be extracted safely, Tomnyuk was arrested during a staged operation by the DAS (now defunct - Administrative Department of Security). Mincho was killed not long after, in a Colombian Navy and Air Force joint bombing raid in Buenaventura in 2011.
Tomnyuk now lives in Florida, under armed guard. The National Police Colonel who ran him, Col. Paulo Cruz, has since retired. | 42 |

| 4 |  Improvised explosives used by CJNG in Michoacán
A CJNG sicario recently posted these three improvised explosives. They are essentially small pipe bombs which are to be thrown in an engagement, similar to a hand grenade.
The bodies are scored, to increase the amount of shrapnel created from their detonation.

A sicario from the Cabreras/Mayiza records as they enter the town of Siqueros, in the municipality of Mazatlan, Sinaloa.
They happen to be a drone operator, seen holding a DJI RC 2 as a drone, likely a Matrice 300/350, provides overwatch.
Siqueros has been subject to recent clashes between the rival Mayiza and Chapitos factions of the Sinaloa cartel, with gunfights and explosions.

Today, Brazilians go to the polls again to decide the incoming president, between sitting president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and Flávio Bolsonaro, son of former president Jair Bolsonaro.
Members of the Red Command (CV) based in Vila Kennedy can be seen pointing weapons at an onscreen Flávio Bolsonaro during a recent debate with Lula, letting their feelings towards him be known.
The weapons include a PDW variant of the PTR-91 and a Safety Harbor arms SHTF50, which is a mag fed upper that combines with a regular AR lower to form a bolt action .50 cal. Multiple SHTF50s have been spotted in Brazil over the years. | 533 |

Slide 1 is a picture posted by a member of the Third Pure Command (TCP) based in the Serrinha complex. It features two rifles, one of which being a Hungarian AMD-65 (left). The other is a very interesting Ak103 originating from the Venezuelan military, identifiable by the Venezuelan coat of arms stamp.
This is likely the first picture of a Venezuelan Ak103 in Brazil. Though, the mega operation against the Red Command (CV) in the Penha and Alemão complexes last October, which killed almost 120 alleged gang members, recovered two Venezuelan military FALs. Here, a female affiliate of the Mayiza branch of the Sinaloa cartel can be seen inside a vehicle full of weapons and gear.
This happens to be the same girl who filmed herself inside a cartel surveillance center in Durango last year (below). Yes, she’s still alive and still violating OPSEC.

| 14 |  Catatumbo, Colombia 🇨🇴: FARC guerrillas on patrol
Multiple guerrillas from FARC’s 33rd front can be seen inside a vehicle, on patrol somewhere in the Catatumbo region.
The front passenger can be seen armed with an AR platform rifle with an M203 grenade launcher, likely acquired from Colombian military stocks. The muzzle of the cameraman’s rifle can also briefly be seen.
The Starlink mounted to the windshield is also notable, something increasingly used by the guerrillas in rural areas.

Earlier today, officers from the 41st Battalion of the Military Police recovered multiple weapons in the Para-Pedro neighbourhood, which is Third Pure Command (TCP) territory.
The officers secured three AR pattern rifles (2x 5.56 variants and one .308 variant), as well as a Chinese C-UAS system. This appears to be an 8 band Texin TX-XQ08 model, several of which have been recovered in RJ in the last few years, from both TCP and rival CV territories.
As drones become more commonplace in RJ, so does the technology used to counter and detect drones.

They can be seen mostly in matching uniforms, plate carriers and boots. The Guerreros are definitely one of the more “tactical” groups. The weapons are mostly AK pattern rifles and several FN Scar Hs.
Slide 2 shows several more weapons posted by one of the Guerreros sicarios, featuring a .50 cal Barrett M82, an M249 light machine gun and another FN Scar H.

Slide 1 shows an “Explosivista” from CJNG in Michoacán, who has featured in a several posts, holding an improvised landmine after it was removed from the ground. This design of this landmine is consistent with those previously spotted with CJNG cartel Explosivistas, with the switch being visible.
Slide 2 shows him with a metal detector, regularly used by the Explosivistas when searching for and de-mining an area.

| 18 | Cauca, Colombia: Operador de drones de las FARC pilotando un dron armado
La diapositiva 1 muestra a varios guerrilleros de las FARC en algún lugar del departamento de Cauca, con un dron DJI Mavic 3T que despega cargando una munición improvisada.
Las FARC llevan más de un año utilizando este tipo de munición, y las autoridades han incautado cientos de dichos municiones.
Las diapositivas 2 a 4 muestran varias incautaciones realizadas en los últimos meses. La diapositiva 5 muestra un ejemplo de julio de 2025, en que un ataque fallido contra soldados utilizó una de estas mismas municiones, pintada de negro.
Están fabricadas con un cuerpo de PVC, aletas estabilizadoras y una espoleta de impacto. La uniformidad y la cantidad de estas municiones sugieren una cadena de suministro sofisticada para su producción.
No se trata solo de municiones para drones; este mismo tipo de explosivo también se está utilizando en minas antipersonal. La diapositiva 6 muestra una de estas minas con un detonador de jeringa, lo cual es una táctica común en Colombia. | 2 405 |

Slide 1 features several FARC guerrillas somewhere in the Cauca department, with a DJI Mavic 3T drone seen taking off, carrying an improvised munition.
This particular style of munition has been used by FARC for more than a year now, with hundreds of them having been seized by authorities throughout Colombia.
Slides 2-4 show various seizures in recent months. Slide 5 shows an example from July of 2025, where a failed drone attack on soldiers used one of these same munitions, painted black.
They are made from a PVC body with stabilizing fins and an impact fuze. The uniformity and number of these munitions suggests a fairly sophisticated supply chain for their production.
It’s not just drone munitions, this same style of explosive is also being used for anti personnel mines. Slide 6 shows one such mine with a syringe detonator, which is a common tactic in Colombia. | 2 645 |
