“PDKI and other Iranian Kurdish parties have maintained a presence in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq since before 1991. Throughout that time, we have remained committed to respecting Iraq’s sovereignty, its laws and institutions, and applicable international law. Our principal forces and political base are rooted inside Iranian Kurdistan and elsewhere in Iran. Our activities are focused on Iranian Kurdistan, and our struggle is for Kurdish national rights and a democratic, pluralistic Iran that respects the rights of all its nations and communities. To date, we have NOT received any official communication from either the Iraqi federal government or the Kurdistan Regional Government.”

Iran Claims Agreement With Iraq to Expel or Hand Over armed Iranian-opposition Kurdish Groups Iran’s ambassador to Baghdad announced that both governments had agreed to remove Iranian Kurdish opposition groups from Southern Kurdistan or hand their members over to Tehran following security talks on October 19. However, an Iraqi source who reportedly attended the talks denied that any such agreement had been reached. Iraq’s official statement also made no mention of expulsions or extraditions. Representatives of PDKI, Komala and PAK confirmed that they had received no official notification from Baghdad or Erbil requiring them to leave the Kurdistan Region. “In 1639, the Treaty of Qasr-e Shirin divided Kurdistan into two parts. Later, through the Treaty of Lausanne, Kurdistan was divided into four. These divisions obstructed national unity, while surrounding states deepened differences within Kurdish society.” “In Northern Kurdistan, Amed would resist while Dersim watched. Then Serhat would resist while others watched. Similar divisions existed between Soran and Behdînan in Southern Kurdistan and among the regions of Eastern Kurdistan.” “Our movement grew through the sacrifices of its martyrs. When a martyr came from a family, that family became part of the movement. When one came from a village, the entire village often became part of the movement.” “Participation from Rojava began in 1985. In 1989, young Kurds from Southern and Eastern Kurdistan began joining. Over time, organizations were established in every part of Kurdistan.” “Through Leader Apo’s struggle and the resistance of the martyrs, the borders dividing Kurdistan lost their meaning. Previously, each part largely existed within itself. Today, Kurds across all four parts know one another and feel responsibility for one another.” “We have become a nation, and no one can disregard this reality.”

KCK Executive Murat Qarayilan provided figures on the total number of reported fallen associated with the Apoci movement.

“We had previously announced approximately 27,000 members who died during the armed struggle in Northern Kurdistan.” “Including those from Rojava, Shengal, Southern Kurdistan and Eastern Kurdistan, the total approaches 40,000.” “If civilian deaths are also included, the total exceeds 45,000. KCK Executive Murat Qarayilan addressed the delayed announcement of fallen guerrillas, explaining that years of intense warfare, security concerns and disrupted communications had prevented the movement from honoring and announcing all of its fallen comrades. Following the commemoration of 749 martyrs from Northern Kurdistan and 19 from Rojava, the movement will now announce another 157 from Rojava, 78 from Eastern Kurdistan, 21 from Southern Kurdistan and 8 from Shengal.
