HPG Command member Murat Karayılan further gave a full breakdown of the movement’s losses across the entire 50-year struggle, from 1976 to 2026.
He said 173 martyrs were recorded between 1976–1983, 13,778 between 1984–2000 and another 7,949 between 2001–2026.
Karayılan also said YPS lost 760 members between 2015–2026, while 3,262 were martyred in the war against ISIS, mainly in Kobanê, Rojava and Şengal.
This brings the officially recorded total to 25,922 martyrs.
He added that around 1,000, possibly more, were never properly entered into the records, especially during the 1984–2000 period. With those included, he puts the real total at around 27,000.
