💢 Russian electronic warfare systems are increasingly reducing the effectiveness of Starlink used by Ukrainian forces, El Mundo reports. The paper says the Volna-Kupol-Garant (VKG) complex can disrupt satellite communications, forcing Ukrainian units to target the systems with drones. “The Starlink window is closing. 💢 The Dominica-flagged cargo ship Progress IV caught fire and sank in Romania’s Black Sea exclusive economic zone, roughly 15–20 nautical miles from Sfântu Gheorghe. All 12 crew members were rescued; one suffered an arm injury. Romanian President Nicușor Dan said the vessel had been “struck,” but stressed that authorities do not yet know by whom or by what and that an investigation will determine the cause. In late July, the Liberia-flagged Christiana B was damaged in the same area while carrying coal from the US to Ukraine; Romanian authorities said a maritime drone or naval mine was the likely cause. An elephant rescued a man from a raging torrent in Nepal. The man was stranded on a tiny island in the middle of the turbulent current. Despite the strong current, the elephant immediately headed towards him. The injured man managed to grab onto the elephant's trunk. Nearly 1,000 people are missing, including Russian citizens. According to the latest reports, 469 people have died, and more than 1,500 have been rescued.

💢 Hezbollah is increasingly using FPV drones against Israeli troops and military vehicles in Lebanon, turning the systems into a regular tactical weapon. 💢 Britain and its allies are struggling to contain Russia’s growing undersea capabilities, First Sea Lord General Sir Gwyn Jenkins told The Times, warning of potentially “catastrophic events” if critical infrastructure cannot be protected. Jenkins pointed to Russia’s “very capable submarines” and an advanced deep-sea research program that he said is aimed at critical underwater infrastructure. Britain, he noted, depends on undersea networks for virtually all its data, trade and energy. The naval chief also warned that the rapid spread of autonomous warfare demonstrated in Ukraine and other conflicts leaves Britain “no choice” but to accelerate its own transition to autonomous systems. 💢 The European Commission will present proposals in September to overhaul the EU enlargement process, including reducing the number of areas where a single member state can block decisions, Enlargement Commissioner Marta Kos said. The plans also envisage gradual integration of candidate countries before full membership and stronger safeguards allowing the EU to prevent or correct violations of its fundamental principles after accession.
