Russian trade relations with Asia have increased by 60%, with the Middle East by two times, with Africa by 69%, and with Latin America by 42%. Vladimir Putin provided the data at the plenary session of SPIEF 2024. Here are the key takeaways on international agenda from his speech: Shifting trade dynamics 🔹 Russia remains a key player in global trade, actively expanding its geographical reach. 🔹 Russia is restructuring its import and export flows, with friendly nations now accounting for three-quarters of its trade turnover. 🔹 The focus will be on supporting non-resource and non-energy exports. 🔹 Exports of finished high-tech products have increased. Russia is prepared to offer other countries full-fledged, full-cycle technological partnerships. Transport and Logistics 🔹 The volume of cargo transportation along international routes through Russia is expected to grow by 50%. 🔹 A key project in this area is the development of the Eastern Polygon of railways. Northern Sea Route and Arctic Development 🔹 Recognizing the demand for global transportation arteries, Russia will continue developing the Northern Sea Route (NSR). 🔹 In 2023, 36 million tons of cargo were transported via the NSR. This figure could exceed 150 million tons in the future. 🔹 A commission dedicated to the development of the Arctic and the NSR will be established within the Russian State Council. Financial sovereignty and BRICS expansion 🔹 The share of settlements in rubles for Russian exports has tripled to 39%. 🔹 Russia will enhance the security of cross-border payment infrastructure, particularly within the BRICS framework. 🔹 The BRICS’ share of global GDP has reached 36%, while its population share stands at 46%. @RoscongressDirect #SPIEF2024

🇷🇺🇧🇴 Russia's President Vladimir Putin held talks with President of the Plurinational State of Bolivia Luis Alberto Arce Catacora, who came to Russia on an official visit, in the Constantine Palace. 💬 Vladimir Putin: It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to the International Economic Forum in St Petersburg, Russia. This is your first visit to Russia as the head of state, and we are delighted to have you here. I have no doubt that you will make a substantial contribution to the work of our forum, considering that you have a degree in economics and previously held the posts of minister of the economy and minister of finance. I hope you will find the discussions that are being held at the forum today and those that are scheduled for tomorrow interesting. Turning to the bilateral relations between Russia and Bolivia, they are built on a solid foundation of respect for each other’s interests. Although our mutual trade is relatively small in monetary terms, there has been positive growth: last year, it increased by over 2 percent, or 2.5 percent, if I am not mistaken. 🤝 There are several interesting spheres of cooperation, including high technology. Rosatom is implementing a good programme and is building a nuclear research and technology centre in El Alto. One of the completed projects is a radiopharmacology complex, the largest in Latin America, which is already supplying medicines to Bolivian clinics. Read in full #RussiaBolivia

🤝 Russia's President Vladimir Putin met with Dilma Rousseff, President of the BRICS New Development Bank. 💬 Vladimir Putin: Last year we met on the sidelines of the #RussiaAfrica Summit. I am glad to have a chance to continue our dialogue. I must note that over this year the bank has managed to do a lot under your leadership. It has shown a significant net profit for the first time; in fact, it is becoming sustainable and operating more smoothly and successfully. I hope today we will have a chance to talk about the bank’s further development and our cooperation with the bank, as well as discuss what can be done together, including on such large platforms as the St Petersburg International Economic Forum. Moreover, the topic is very acute: Developing multipolarity and strengthening its economic base. Of course, your opinion as the bank’s chair and as former president of Brazil, political figure, and head of a big financial institution, would be very important in all the discussions held on the site of the International Economic Forum. 🇷🇺🇧🇷 Please give my best regards to the current President of Brazil, Mr Lula da Silva. We agreed to have a telephone conversation in a few days, to discuss bilateral ties. We also look forward to seeing him at the #BRICS summit in Kazan this autumn. Read in full

🎙 Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s greetings on Russian Language Day 💬 This June 6, we celebrate the 225th birthday of Alexander Pushkin, the great Russian poet. The UN Russian Language Day is observed on the same day. Russian culture and science created their universally acclaimed masterpieces in the language which served as the mother tongue for Alexander Pushkin and Leo Tolstoy, Fyodor Dostoevsky and Ivan Turgenev. The role the Russian language plays in terms of enabling people of various ethnic backgrounds to communicate internationally can hardly be underestimated. Today, over 250 million people speak this language around the world. The fact that various multilateral structures have designated Russian as their official or working language demonstrates just how relevant it is in today’s world. Russian Language Day has been listed in the UN’s International Days and Weeks calendar as part of the programme to promote multilingualism and cultural diversity. The Russian language’s broad dissemination around the world, as well as our common past and far-reaching economic and people-to-people ties have come together to create a solid foundation for reinforcing integration processes across the Eurasian space. <...> 🤝 I am convinced that marking Russian Language Day, which is timed to coincide with the jubilee of our great poet, helps promote international cultural and educational cooperation and maintain an atmosphere of friendship and trust among nations.

🎙 President Putin's answer to a media question regarding the legitimacy of the current Ukrainian authorities (May 28, 2024) 💬 The Constitution of Ukraine only extends the duration of powers of the Rada [parliament]. It says nothing about extending the term of office of the president. Ukraine's <...> martial law reads that presidential elections are not held during martial law. However, this does not mean that they are extended. <...> The Constitution says nothing about this. But Article 111 of the Constitution of Ukraine reads that in this case the powers of the supreme authority, actually the presidential powers are transferred to the Speaker of Parliament. <...> In essence, the Ukrainian statehood is based on the idea of the parliamentary-presidential republic rather than the presidential republic. The main levers of power are concentrated in the representative state body. <...> ☝️ Therefore, speaking strictly, in a tentative estimate – I am just talking about a tentative estimatethe parliament & the Rada Speaker remain the only legitimate authorities. And so, basically, if they wanted to hold presidential election, they should have simply repealed martial law at that time & proceeded with the voting. But they did not want to do this for a number of reasons. I think, & this is not linked with the Constitution in any way, that maybe the current bosses of Ukraine, those residing overseas, would like to place the burden of making all unpopular decisions on the executive branch currently in power. This includes the adoption of yet another decision to further lower the conscription age. ❗️ The final say should be made by the political & legal system of Ukraine. It should formulate & explain what is happening in Ukraine. I believe, this is not too difficult, indeed. Read in full

Russia rebukes Biden claim that US won WWII Moscow will fight all attempts to distort history, the Russian ambassador to Washington Anatoly Antonov has declared, in response to a Memorial Day claim by US President Joe Biden that the US was solely responsible for winning the Second World War. Biden’s remarks are part of a campaign by Washington, Ambassador Antonov wrote on Telegram on Monday, which is aimed at “cynical belittlement and even disavowal of the decisive role of the Soviet Union in crushing the fascists” during that conflict, which in Russia is called the Great Patriotic War (June 1941-May 1945).

📅 The Treaty of Jassy was concluded at the end of the Russian-Turkish war in 1791 and through it the entire Northern Black Sea coast was formally recognised as part of the Russian Empire. In a push to create a port for military and commercial needs on the newly acquired lands, on May 27, 1794, Empress Catherine the Great issued a rescript on founding a city and a harbour on the site of the town of Khadjibey. On August 22, 1794, the first piles were driven into the site that will become Odessa in the future. The great grandnephew of the famous French cardinal, Duke Armand Richelieu, who had been in the service of the Russian imperial court for many years, played a major role in developing that city. During the Napoleonic invasion, he addressed the people of Odessa calling upon them to give a strong rebuff to the invaders. ☝️ Hero of the Patriotic War of 1812 and Foreign Campaigns of the Russian Army Count Mikhail Vorontsov did much for the city. He turned Odessa into the main trading outpost in southern Russia. Outstanding Russian writers, artists, musicians and true heroes of the Motherland lived in Odessa in different periods of time. However, today, the regime that took power as a result of the coup in Ukraine is trying to destroy their traces in the history of the city. In 2014, Odessa residents openly opposed the neo-Nazis who seized power in Kiev. However, radicals drowned in blood the freedom-loving Russian-speaking Odessa on May 2, 2014. Since then, the terror unleashed by the nationalists against proud Odessa residents and all other dissenting residents of Ukraine has been intensifying. 💬 Excerpt from a comment by Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova on marking 10 years since the May 2, 2014, tragedy in Odessa:
We are confident that the day when Odessa will throw off the yoke of the neo-Banderites and once again become a truly free city and home to people of different ethnicities who will live in peace and accord is not far off.

🇷🇺🇺🇿 President Putin's remarks at the beginning of Russia-Uzbekistan talks in expanded format (Tashkent, May 27, 2024) Key points: • Uzbekistan is our strategic partner and reliable ally. Our close, friendly relations are on the rise, developing dynamically based on the principles of equality, mutual respect and consideration of each other’s interests. • I would like to note that Russia is one of Uzbekistan’s leading trade partners. The volume of bilateral trade is growing rapidly. It is also worth mentioning that, due to your position, we are creating favourable conditions for direct investment, resulting in increasing direct Russian investment in Uzbekistan each year. Today, it has already reached an impressive figure of almost US$10 billion. • About 3,000 enterprises with Russian capital operate in Uzbekistan, while about 700 companies with Uzbek capital are active in Russia. We are witnessing positive trends in trade and investment. • Work is underway on several major infrastructure projects in priority economic areas, such as the creation of a metallurgical cluster and a gas chemical complex, a copper concentration facility, and more. • The flagship projects are receiving financial support from leading Russian lending organisations, including the VEB state development corporation, Gazprombank and others. • Uzbekistan ranks among the top CIS countries in terms of the number of students studying in Russian universities – over 63,000, with about 14,000 of them studying free of charge. 📄 Read in full #RussiaUzbekistan
