🎙 Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova’s comment regarding Kiev regime’s terrorist attacks on Russian regions 💬 On May 16 and 17, the Kiev neo-Nazi regime used fixed-wing unmanned aerial vehicles and unmanned speedboats to launch another massive attack on Crimea, the Krasnodar Territory and other Russian regions. Russian air defence forces destroyed and intercepted more than 100 UAVs (51 over the Crimean Peninsula, 44 over the Krasnodar Territory, six over the Belgorod Region, and one over the Kursk Region). The Black Sea Fleet naval aviation and patrol boats destroyed six unmanned speedboats. Earlier this week, Russian Defence Ministry reported the destruction of 20 US-made ATACMS operational-tactical missiles, over 130 missiles, including US-made HIMARS and Czech-made Vampire, over 20 French-made Hammer guided bombs, and four British-made Storm Shadow cruise missiles. These barbaric attacks with the use of Western-made weapons are clearly backed by the US and British curators overseeing Zelensky’s regime. They go beyond supplying it with ever longer-range missiles and heavy weapons and now authorise their use against Russia, further escalating the conflict. This Banderite clique seems to have come to believe in its own impunity amid the Western emissaries’ frequent visits to Kiev lately. ❗️ Once again, we would like to issue a stark warning to Washington, London, Brussels and other Western capitals, as well as Kiev which is controlled by them, that they are playing with fire. Russia will not leave unanswered these acts of aggression against its territory.

Vladimir Putin answered questions from the Russian media to sum up his two-day state visit to China. Here are the key takeaways: 🔹The strategic cooperation between Russia and China is not directed against anyone. Its only mission consists of facilitating the development of our countries and improving the wellbeing of their people. 🔹Russia has never rejected talks as a way to settle the Ukraine crisis. Moscow is monitoring developments around the upcoming meeting in Switzerland but does not intend to discuss any obscure formulas. 🔹Targeting third countries and economic actors with sanctions is illegitimate. These decisions create direct losses for the global economy as a whole. 🔹Russia and China have reaffirmed their interest in carrying out the Power of Siberia 2 project. China’s economy is growing and needs more energy resources, while there is nothing to match Russian supplies in terms of reliability. We will use national currencies in all our trade transactions.

🇷🇺🇨🇳 Russia's President Vladimir Putin had a conversation with Vice President of the People’s Republic of China Han Zheng. 💬 Vladimir Putin: We held extremely substantive and extensive talks with the President of China yesterday. Our meetings were informative and useful. You yourself, when you were head of the intergovernmental commission, made a valuable contribution to the development of bilateral relations. I hope that we will yet do more together to attain the goals we set to ourselves. We would be happy to see you at the Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok. 🤝 North-East China and Russia share a long history of cooperation and joint struggle for independence and for strengthening sovereignty. Our comradeship – in the literal sense of the word – grew even stronger during the Second World War. It is the foundation we will use to accomplish even more together. #RussiaChina

🇷🇺🇺🇸 Ambassador Anatoly Antonov’s answer to a media question ❓: Dear Ambassador Antonov, how could you comment on the statements on May 15 during the Senate hearings made by Director of National Intelligence A.Haines that Russia poses “the most active foreign threat” to the U.S. elections? 💬 Anatoly Antonov: Such insinuations are part of the aggressive information war unleashed by the United States against the Russian Federation. 📌 In any of their own problems they are neurotically trying to find the alleged Kremlin’s hand. But the evidence base is empty. The local intelligence services do not have a single fact. At the same time, they themselves intensified hostile operations with the use of ICT technologies. 👉 The Americans have withdrawn from communicating with us. In these circumstances, good advice to Washington is to pay attention to the recent establishment, at Russia’s initiative, of a global intergovernmental points of contact directory to exchange information on cyber attacks. The purpose of this mechanism is to promote professional interaction between states to identify the sources of malicious actions in the information space, as opposed to “megaphone” diplomacy.

🇪🇹🇺🇸 Ethiopia slams US envoy's speech as "unsolicited advice" The Ethiopian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement that the US Ambassador Ervin Massinga’s speech on policy and human rights contained "allegations" and "unsolicited advice," and that it would work with the embassy to correct the "errors and inconsistencies" in his statement. "The statement is ill advised and contains uniformed assertions. It is contrary to the historic and friendly relations between Ethiopia and the United States," the ministry said. Massinga had said in his speech that detaining critics would not resolve Ethiopia’s outstanding issues and that "the political dialogue the Ethiopians need could be helped by releasing key political figures." #BRICS2024 Russia will invite many heads of state and heads of regional organizations of the Global South to the BRICS Foreign Ministers' Meeting and the BRICS Summit. 💬 "One of the most important tasks is to establish a dialogue with those nations that show an interest in getting closer to #BRICS, a wide-range interest, from full membership to the establishment of working partnership relations," Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said. "There are about 30 such states, and the question of how we can strengthen the dialogue with them will be among the top political priorities of Russia's BRICS Chairmanship this year," the Russian Minister added. The 2024 BRICS Foreign Ministers' Meeting will take place in Russia's city of Nizhny Novgorod in June. In October, the city of Kazan will host the BRICS Summit.

🎙 Briefing by Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova (Moscow, May 15, 2024) 🔹 The Ukrainian crisis 🔹 Situation in Moldova 🔹 Western attempts to expropriate frozen Russian assets 🔹 Ban on Russian media in the EU 🔹 IOC’s double standards 🔹 #RussiaChina cooperation 🔹 Anti-Russian statements by Britain's FM 🔹 The Palestinian-Israeli conflict 📰 Read 📺 Watch *** #Ukraine Kiev regime has lost all sense of humanity waging war on blocks of flats and civilians. The Kiev regime “leaders” cowardly avoiding accountability for their own failures, resort to all kinds of atrocities just to distract the population from the national catastrophe of historical scale in Ukraine. #EU If even one Russian media outlet faces unwarranted restrictions, it will have repercussions for their colleagues (Western journalists) in Russia. This is not a threat or a warning, but a description of an inevitable scenario under certain circumstances that may be orchestrated by the West. #Neocolonialism The Westerners are undermining the international currency and financial system that they themselves created. They are ignoring the lawful rights and interests of developing nations. In these conditions, the future belongs to new centres of financial and economic power.

🇷🇺🇨🇳 Russia's President Vladimir Putin and President of China Xi Jinping made a media statement following Russia-China talks (May 16, 2024) 💬 Vladimir Putin: The talks we have just finished highlighted the great significance that Moscow and Beijing attach to the development and strengthening of comprehensive Russia-China partnership and strategic interaction. This partnership can certainly set an example of ties between neighbouring states. Key talking points: • This state visit takes place in the year of the 75th Anniversary of our diplomatic relations. Our country was the first to recognise the People’s Republic of China on October 2, 1949, the day after its declaration. • I want to note the significance of the Joint Statement we have adopted, which sets new objectives and long-term directives for advancing the entire spectrum of Russian-Chinese relations. 📈 In 2023, bilateral trade surged by a quarter, reaching a new milestone of $240 billion, as reported by Chinese statistics. While there may be a slight variance in figures, the overall total is entirely accurate. <...> Currently, there are over 80 priority projects valued at approximately $200 billion in progress or in preparation for implementation through the respective intergovernmental commission. • Our talks have reaffirmed that Russia and China have similar or identical views on many international and regional issues. Both countries have an independent and sovereign foreign policy. We are working together to create a fairer and more democratic multipolar world order. • We have agreed to further improve communication between credit and banking institutions of Russia and China, while actively employing national payment systems to support our economic operators. 🤝 Russia and China are fruitfully working together in #BRICS and the #SCO. <...> Our countries are resolved to continue working to align integration processes underway within the framework of the #EAEU with China's Belt and Road Initiative. 🇷🇺🇨🇳 Beginning of Russia's President Vladimir Putin's conversation with President of China Xi Jinping 💬 Vladimir Putin: We will be marking a major milestone, an Anniversary. On October 1, we will celebrate 75 years since the establishment of the People’s Republic of China, and the very next day, on October 2, our two countries established diplomatic relations. The Soviet Union was the first country to recognise the new China. Moscow and Beijing have built a solid track record in terms of their practical cooperation. In 2023, bilateral trade increased by almost 25%, reaching $227 billion, which was quite a positive result. <...> It is of fundamental significance that relations between Russia and China do not depend on short-term considerations and are not directed against anyone. Today, our cooperation in global affairs is one of the main stabilising factors on the international stage. We are acting jointly to uphold the principles of justice and a democratic world order that reflects multipolar realities and is based on international law. 🎙 Statement of the Permanent Representative of Russia to the UN Office and other international organizations in Geneva Ambassador Gennady Gatilov at the Conference on Disarmament (Geneva, 14 May 2024) Key talking points: 💬 The first major shock for the whole world and, above all, for Europe after the end of the Cold War took place in 1999 when NATO, upon orders from Washington, committed military aggression against Yugoslavia in the very center of Europe. It was then that the alliance’s declared “defensive” status was lost forever. • The next significant milestone on the way of undermining strategic stability and international security was the unilateral withdrawal of the US from the ABM Treaty in 2001. It was done with the tacit consent of Washington’s European satellites. • In 2008 at the NATO summit in Vilnius it was decided to integrate into the alliance Ukraine and Georgia, countries once close to Russia that share historical, cultural and civilizational roots with it. ❗️ It was exactly the West, not Russia, that gradually closed the “window of opportunity” for a fruitful and comprehensive cooperation in order to solve pressing problems of regional and global security. • We made our last attempt in December 2021, when two draft treaties on security guarantees to Russia were handed over to Washington and Brussels. <...> But our balanced and constructive proposals were rejected. • The pumping of Zelensky’s regime with weapons, the accelerated strategic development of Ukraine’s territory by the de-facto nuclear NATO alliance, and the open unwillingness of Western States to talk about security guarantees forced our country to launch a Special Military Operation. • NATO has finally pulled the European Union under itself.<...> Today <...> it has completely lost its political subjectivity and turned into an “overseas territory” of the US. 🇷🇺 Russia <...> is open to any constructive diplomatic efforts, but only if and when the countries of the “collective West” and NATO are ready to do so. ✍️ President of Russia Vladimir Putin's interview to Xinhua News Agency ahead of his state visit to the People’s Republic of China (May 15, 2024) Key talking points: 🇷🇺🇨🇳 #RussiaChina partnership has always relied on the principles of equality and trust, mutual respect for the sovereignty and consideration of each other's interests. A special and prominent role in the development of our relations has belonged to wise and shrewd politicians and state leaders, such as Xi Jinping, President of the People's Republic of China. • This unprecedented level of strategic partnership between our countries determined my choice of China as the first state to be visited after the official inauguration as the President of the Russian Federation. • October 1 marks the 75th Anniversary of the establishment of the People's Republic of China. The country is approaching this significant historical date with outstanding achievements, which we welcome as old, reliable and time-tested friends. The USSR was the first to recognize the PRC on the second day of its existence. • Russia-China ties as they are today, are free from the influence of either ideology or political trends. Their multidimensional development is an informed strategic choice based on the wide convergence of core national interests, profound mutual trust, strong public support and sincere friendship between the peoples of the two countries. 📈 Trade and economic relations between our countries are developing at a fast pace, showing strong immunity to external challenges and crises. Over the past five years, we have doubled the Russia-China turnover: it reached $227.8 billion last year, against $111 billion in 2019. • President of China Xi Jinping and I decided to declare 2024 and 2025 cross years of culture between Russia and China, so as to implement this large‑scale project in conjunction with the celebration of the 75th Anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between our countries. 📄 Read in full

🎙 Briefing by Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova (Moscow, May 8, 2024) • Victory Day • BRICS events • The Ukrainian crisis • Situation in Moldova • Aggressive remarks by the French President • Situation in the Middle East 📰 Read 📺 Watch *** #BRICS Russia’s chairmanship of BRICS is picking up speed. Over 40 events across three main cooperation areas have already taken place, covering politics and security, the economy and finance, as well as cultural and humanitarian exchanges. #Ukraine Just a few days ago EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell admitted clearly once again that the Ukrainian conflict had had a quick peaceful solution since the very beginning, but he personally and on behalf of the European Union did not want the combat to cease. We have talked about this many times (citing Mr Borrell and other EU officials) pointing to the EU’s long-term investments in financing arms supplies to Ukraine, with which they expect to prolong the armed confrontation for at least several more years (in their own words). This confirms the terrible reality: ordinary Ukrainians are just a tool that Vladimir Zelensky "sold" to the EU members in the name of his own enrichment and immorality, which is used to settle the West’s geopolitical scores with Russia. #France #NATO #EU We noted the recent aggressive remarks from the French leadership, which seem to be increasingly frequent. <…> It is noteworthy that the belligerent stance of the occupant of the Elysee Palace is not only met with disapproval among many EU and NATO allies but, crucially, among the majority of French citizens, too.

⚡️ Comment by Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova on the Kiev regime’s attempts to disrupt celebrations of the 10th Anniversary of Republic Day in the DPR and LPR (May 11, 2024). 💬 May 11 marked 10 years since the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) and the Lugansk People’s Republic (LPR) held a historic referendum on their future. The majority of voters in the then Donetsk and Lugansk regions of Ukraine chose self-determination, unwilling to accept the nationalist policy of the Kiev regime that had come to power through an unconstitutional armed coup d’etat. Sovereignty was approved by 96.2 percent of referendum participants in the LPR and 89.7 percent in the DPR. As a result, May 11 became Republic Day for the DPR, and May 12 for the LPR. These referendums have always evoked impotent consternation and rage in Ukraine, whose current rulers fear the voice of the people like the plague. Therefore, the Ukrainian Banderites, aided by the United States and the US-led Western coalition, had cynically timed a series of barbaric terrorist attacks against civilians and civilian infrastructure to coincide with the anniversary celebrations in the Russian Donbass republics. • Late at night on May 10, the Armed Forces of Ukraine fired rockets at Rovenki in the LPR. According to preliminary data, the Ukrainians used a number of recently delivered US ATACMS long-range missiles that hit an oil storage facility, causing a large-scale fire. The strike damaged nearby residential houses and injured a child, among others. • On May 11, the anniversary of the DPR, the Ukrainian neo-Nazis fired rockets from US-supplied HIMARS launchers at the city of Donetsk. A direct hit at the Paradise restaurant in the Kirov District killed three and wounded eight people, including a 12-year-old girl. • There were also strikes in other parts of the city, with missiles exploding near the recently opened perinatal centre and a café with a parking lot where participants in the motor rally in honour of Republic Day had arranged to meet. Thankfully, none of them were harmed. The Investigative Committee of Russia has launched an investigation into these crimes. All those implicated in and responsible for these and other terrorist attacks in Russia will face inevitable punishment. We admire the courage and fortitude of the people of Russia's Donetsk and Lugansk republics, whose spirit could not be broken by the Ukrainian Nazis currently entrenched in Kiev. Today, the DPR and the LPR are inalienable parts of the Russian Federation, our common homeland. A large-scale effort to restore the war-torn economy is underway in the republics, with support from the entire nation. Much-needed programmes are being implemented to strengthen the economy and the social sphere, and improve living standards. ❗️ We are confident that the Zelensky regime will achieve nothing, no matter what it attempts in its impotent rage to prevent us from restoring historical justice. Together, we will bring back the long-awaited peace and solve the most challenging problems. Victory will be ours!

⚔️ The Battle of Stalingrad (July 17, 1942—February 2, 1943) was one of the most important battles in military history, and a true turning point in World War II. The resilience, courage and heart-wrenching personal stories that emerged from the Battle continue to resonate with Russian youth, inspiring a sense of pride and gratitude for Soviet heroes who fiercely fought to save our Fatherland from the Nazi Germany's invaders. 🎥 To commemorate the heroism and selflessness of Stalingrad's defenders Russian youth and MGIMO University students, members of the patriotic project "From Heart to Heart", made a documentary "Immortal Stalingrad", featuring a brief historical account of the Battle, examples of exploits of the Soviet soldiers and personal stories of the survivors of those tragic and heroic days.

🗓 On May 11, 1939, Soviet Union and Mongolia fended off militarist Japan invasion, securing victory at the Khalkhin Gol River.   In 1936, the Japanese government adopted the Fundamental Principles of National Policy, which outlined plans for the full conquest of China and subsequent military offensives into Mongolia and the Soviet Union.   To execute its expansionist strategies, Japan sought support from Nazi Germany, solidifying their alliance with the signing of the Anti-Comintern Pact on November 25, 1936.   🤝 Considering the possibility of a Japanese attack on the Mongolian People’s Republic and the use of its territory as a launching pad for aggression against the USSR, the Soviet and Mongolian governments signed a Protocol of Mutual Assistance on March 12, 1936.   On July 7, 1937, Japan initiated a full-scale war against China. This further complicated the relations between Moscow and Tokyo, leading to heightened tensions, which boiled over in 1938 into an armed conflict along the Soviet-Manchurian border near Lake Khasan. ⚔️ The Khalkhin Gol River conflict erupted when Japanese troops entered the area and opened fire at the Mongolian border guards. The Red Army swiftly intervened to support their Mongolian allies.   Japan’s invasion of Mongolia was also driven by a desire for retaliation following the unsuccessful confrontation at Lake Khasan. It was also a strategy to compel the Soviet Union to withdraw support for China.   📄 In collaboration with the Mongolian forces, the Red Army successfully repelled the Japanese invasion and by late August, expelled them from Mongolian territory. On September 16, an agreement was reached between the Soviet Union, the Mongolian People’s Republic, and Japan to cease hostilities.   ❗️ The victory of the USSR and their Mongolian allies carried a long-term influence on the dynamics of World War II. The Red Army’s triumph at Khalkhin Gol compelled the Japanese to abandon their plans for a major assault on the USSR. #KhalkhinGol85

✍️ President Vladimir Putin sent greetings to the participants and guests of the 15th International Economic Forum “Russia – Islamic World: #KazanForum,” underway in Kazan (May 10, 2024) 💬 Russia values its traditionally friendly ties with Muslim countries. 🇷🇺 President of Russia Vladimir Putin addressed the guests at a reception on behalf of the President of Russia in honour of the heads of state invited to attend the celebrations of the 79th Anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941–1945. 💬 President Putin: Today, on Victory Day, it is with a special feeling of warmth that we welcome in Russia and here in Moscow our reliable partners and friends. <...> Time has no power over the greatness of the colossal victory of 1945. Despite all attempts to rewrite history, the lessons that the world community learnt in the crucible of the Second World War remain unassailable. <...> We remember the Allied contribution to fighting Nazism, those who took part in the lend-lease convoys, including Cuba, by the way. We are delighted to have the President of this country, Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez, with us on a day which matters so much to all of us. <...> The Nazis directed most of their military might against the Soviet Union, but the enemy had to face a vigorous and firm pushback there. The entire Soviet nation rose to defend the Fatherland in an unprecedented demonstration of unity and mass heroism. <...> Having defeated Nazism and asserted its independence, our country made a sincere effort to support other nations aspiring to self-determination by helping people in Africa and Asia both in word and deed during their anti-colonial struggles without backing out once they achieved their state independence. I believe that President of the Republic of Guinea-Bissau Umaro Sissoco Embalo, who is here today, will agree that this consistency on behalf of the Soviet Union and then Russia has borne fruit. <...> ☝️ Russia reaffirms its commitment to promoting mutually beneficial partnerships and friendship with everyone who shares the values of freedom and justice and calls for strictly abiding by the international norms, as well as for an inclusive, equal and indivisible security architecture.

Massinga had said in his speech that detaining critics would not resolve Ethiopia’s outstanding issues and that "the political dialogue the Ethiopians need could be helped by releasing key political figures." Subscribe to @sputnik_africa 🔸 TikTok | Sputnik AfricaBoost us on Telegram 🔸
