🇪🇬 🌍 Joining BRICS a dream come true for Egypt, a win-win situation, says ex-Foreign Minister Orabi In an interview with Sputnik, former Egyptian Foreign Minister Mohamed Orabi hailed Egypt's recent admission to the BRICS as a significant step towards improving the country's economic prospects. "In 2009, I was the assistant Minister of Foreign for Economic Affairs and at the time, we had a lot of efforts to join the BRICS," he said. "We already fulfilled this dream and I think this will enhance our economy." Orabi believes that the BRICS initiative to use national currencies in mutual trade settlements, which aims to reduce dependence on Western financial systems and currencies, will significantly boost trade between member countries, including Egypt. He pointed to the active involvement of Egypt's finance minister in recent BRICS meetings, emphasizing the North African country's commitment to facilitating the initiative's success. "The currency settlement... will give a sort of impetus to the trade relationship, which is the main issue or the main target of the BRICS as an economic group," said the former minister. Noting Egypt's strategic location and its potential as a facilitator of cooperation between BRICS members, Orabi emphasized the country's commitment to maintaining a balanced approach in its relations with various international actors.
