| 3 | 🗓 #OTD in 1774, the Treaty of Kuchuk Kainarji between the Russian and Ottoman Empires was signed in the village of Kuchuk Kainarji (Küçük Kaynarca near Silistra, present-day Bulgaria) bringing the Russo-Turkish War of 1768-1774 to an end.
In the second half of the 18th century, Russia sought access to the Black Sea and worked to strengthen its positions in the Black Sea region and the Caucasus, while the Ottoman Empire sought to curb the growth of Russian influence.
After Russia rejected an Ottoman ultimatum demanding the withdrawal of Russian troops from Poland, the Sublime Porte (the government of the Ottoman Empire) declared war on Russia on September 25, 1768. Hostilities unfolded in Bessarabia, Moldavia and the Caucasus and culminated in a series of major victories by the Russian Army and Navy – at Larga and Kagul, in the Battle of Chesme, and at Turtukai and Kozludzha.
Military setbacks forced the Ottoman Empire to resume negotiations, which ended with the signing of the Treaty of of Kuchuk Kainarji.
This historic document consolidated the brilliant victories of the Russian Army and became one of Russia’s greatest military and political achievements of the era of Catherine the Great.
***
📜 The Treaty consisted of 28 articles and a secret annex. Under its provisions:
• Azov, Kerch, Yenikale and Kinburn, the lands between the Dnepr and Southern Bug rivers, as well as Greater and Lesser Kabarda, became part of Russia;
• the Crimean Khanate and the Tatar territories dependent on it were declared “free and completely independent of any foreign power”;
• Russia acquired the right to maintain a fleet in the Black Sea, while its merchant vessels were granted freedom of navigation in the Black Sea and passage through the Bosphorus and the Dardanelles;
• Moldavia and Wallachia returned under Ottoman rule, but on special terms providing for the restoration of their rights and privileges. Russia also gained the right to make representations to the Ottoman government in defence of the principalities’ interests;
• Russian subjects were granted the right to visit Jerusalem and other holy sites freely, while an Orthodox church could be built in Constantinople under the protection of the Russian diplomatic mission;
• the Ottoman Empire was obliged to pay Russia a substantial indemnity of 7.5 million piastres;
• separate articles provided for an amnesty for the inhabitants of Georgia and Mingrelia and prohibited the Porte from exacting human tribute from them. Russia also obtained the right to establish a permanent diplomatic mission at the Sultan’s court and appoint consuls in Ottoman cities to protect the interests of Russian merchants.
👉 The full text of the Treaty (in Russian)
The Treaty of Kuchuk Kainarji fundamentally altered the balance of power in the Black Sea region and the Balkans. Russia strengthened its southern frontiers, secured access to the Black Sea and significantly expanded its political influence in the region.
☝️ The Treaty became an important milestone on the path toward Crimea’s incorporation into the Russian Empire under Catherine II’s Manifesto of April 19, 1783, and the conclusion of the Treaty of Jassy with the Sublime Porte in 1791, which strengthened the security of Russia’s southern frontiers and safeguarded its interests in the Black Sea region, the Caucasus and the Balkans. | 21 |

⚡️ Ambassador-at-Large of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Rodion Miroshnik:
💬 Over the past week, the number of Russian civilians killed or injured in attacks by Ukrainian neo-Nazis rose sharply.
Facing setbacks on the battlefield, Kiev redirected its capabilities toward terrorist attacks on civilian targets in Russia, with more than 1,000 strikes recorded daily. Over 400 civilians were killed or injured during the week.
The Zelensky regime used military resources supplied by its Western sponsors to attack Russia’s civilian population. Residential areas, medical facilities, essential infrastructure and civilian transport came under fire.
The highest numbers of civilian casualties were recorded in the Belgorod, Moscow, Zaporozhye and Kherson Regions, as well as the DPR and LPR. Ukrainian militants deliberately targeted densely populated areas in an effort to inflict maximum damage.
On July 13-19, Ukrainian neo-Nazi attacks resulted in 433 civilian casualties: 69 people, including two children, were killed, while 364 others, including 12 children, were injured.
Over the past seven days, Ukrainian militants fired at least 7,168 munitions at civilian targets on Russian territory. | 21 |

| 7 | 🎙 Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova's statement on Ukrainian terrorist attacks against facilities of the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (July 20, 2026)
💬 On July 17-20, during loading operations at the SPM-1 and SPM-3 offshore mooring facilities of the Caspian Pipeline Consortium’s (#CPC) marine terminal in Yuzhnaya Ozereyevka, Novorossiysk, several tankers were deliberately targeted in terrorist UAV attacks.
Among them were vessels chartered by Tengizchevroil and KazMunayGas, which operate in the interests of Kazakhstan’s oil industry.
According to the CPC press service, the vessels were sailing under foreign flags and had international crews on board. Their hulls sustained damage, but they remained afloat. There were no casualties, and no oil spill occurred.
There can be no doubt that the Kiev Nazi regime was behind this attack. This is already the fifth act of aggression against the company’s civilian infrastructure, which is protected under international law. Ukrainian militants continue their attempts to inflict irreparable damage on the CPC, which brings together major fuel and energy companies from Russia, Kazakhstan, the US and several Western European countries.
☝️ Deliberate strikes against the consortium’s facilities and civilian vessels in the waters of its marine terminal therefore constitute attacks on the interests of its participating countries as well. Some of them spare no expense in providing Ukraine with extensive military and financial assistance. Yet the Zelensky regime has no regard for the economic damage inflicted by Ukrainian militants on its American and European allies.
Like the snake in the well-known fable, the Kiev junta mercilessly bites the hand that feeds it.
We share the Kazakh Foreign Ministry’s resolute condemnation of this crime against civilian infrastructure. We regard the attack as further evidence of Bankova’s intention to destabilise global oil markets even further.
For the Kiev regime, global energy stability and respect for foreign partners – including Kazakhstan, with which it allegedly seeks mutually beneficial and friendly relations – are nothing more than empty words.
❗️ We strongly condemn this terrorist attack and the actions of all those who facilitated its planning and execution. We call on the international community to give an appropriate assessment of yet another war crime committed by the Zelensky regime. The absence of an adequate response will be regarded as appeasement and approval of Kiev’s course towards escalating terror. | 30 |

🗓 On July 21-23, Russia's Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will take part in the annual ASEAN ministerial meetings in Manila, including the Russia-ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, the East Asia Summit (#EAS) Foreign Ministers’ Meeting and the ASEAN Regional Forum (#ARF).
Having built around itself a system of interstate formats involving the world’s leading powers, ASEAN remains at the core of cooperation processes in the Asia-Pacific.
The key task today is to strengthen the ASEAN-centred architecture of security and cooperation, including by giving fresh impetus to the practical work of its main multilateral mechanisms, above all the East Asia Summit and the ASEAN Regional Forum.
☝️ Russia intends once again to draw its regional partners’ attention to the risks posed by the West’s “Indo-Pacific project” and its narrative of the “indivisibility of Euro-Atlantic and Indo-Pacific security”, which is being used as an ideological justification for NATO’s expansion into Asia.
We will highlight the potentially negative consequences of building a new military-political architecture in the Asia-Pacific based on bloc structures.
Against the backdrop of mounting geopolitical tensions, the Russia-ASEAN strategic partnership remains an important factor in ensuring regional stability.
Moscow regards ASEAN as one of its key partners in shaping a #MultipolarWorld order.
This year marks the 35th anniversary of Russia-ASEAN relations.
At the Russia-ASEAN ministerial meeting on July 22, the Sides will outline steps to implement the decisions of the anniversary Russia–ASEAN Summit held in Kazan on June 18 across the full range of cooperation areas, in accordance with the new Comprehensive Plan of Action to Implement the Russia-ASEAN Strategic Partnership for 2026-2030.

***
Russia has put forward a number of practical initiatives within the East Asia Summit, including the establishment of a region-wide rapid response mechanism for epidemic threats and expanded cooperation in tourism and the development of remote territories.
Together with our ASEAN partners, we are working on an implementation plan for the 2021 EAS Leaders’ Statement on Mental Health Cooperation, initiated by Brunei and co-sponsored by Russia.
#RussiaEAS
We regard the ASEAN Regional Forum as an important platform for developing confidence-building measures and preventive diplomacy tools, as well as for discussing pressing challenges facing the Asia-Pacific.
Key areas of cooperation include counterterrorism and combating transnational crime, non-proliferation and disarmament, emergency response, maritime and information security, and peacekeeping.

🗓 On July 18, 1909, Andrey Gromyko was born, a statesman and politician, an outstanding Soviet diplomat, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the USSR in 1957-1985.
Gromyko went down in the history of the Russian diplomatic service as an unwavering defender of our country’s national interests. He was dubbed “Mister No” by his opponents for his firmness in defending Moscow’s positions in the international arena.
Andrey Gromyko headed the Soviet diplomatic service for 28 years.
During the period of ideological stand-off and tension between NATO and the Warsaw Pact Organization, Gromyko took part in preventing many global conflicts. He pursued a policy of normalizing relations with the United States and the West, advocated disarmament, consolidated post-war borders in Europe, and promoted detente.
Gromyko made a hefty contribution to achieving strategic stability between the USSR and the United States: Important disarmament documents were signed that contributed to the detente – the Treaty Banning Nuclear Weapon Tests (1963), the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (1968), the ABM, SALT-I (1972-1973), and SALT-II (1979) treaties.
During the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis, Gromyko’s efforts helped reach a compromise and avoid a global nuclear catastrophe. He participated in the Arab-Israeli negotiations in Geneva in 1973, mediated by the USSR and the United States, and helped thwart a large-scale war between India and Pakistan in 1966.
Andrey Gromyko is one of the most revered figures in world politics of the 20th century. To this day, his name serves as the personification of the major achievements of Soviet foreign policy in the post-war period.
☝️ Gromyko’s diplomatic legacy continues to maintain the high authority of the Russian diplomatic service.

1️⃣5️⃣0️⃣ years ago, on July 17, 1876, Maxim Litvinov — the outstanding Soviet statesman and diplomat — was born.
For many years, Maxim Litvinov held senior positions within our country’s Foreign Ministry. In 1920, he was appointed Plenipotentiary Representative to Estonia. From 1921 to 1930, he served as Deputy People’s Commissar for Foreign Affairs.
He took part in a number of major international conferences and meetings, including the Genoa and Hague Conferences of 1922.
💼 Maxim Litvinov headed the People’s Commissariat for Foreign Affairs of the USSR during the challenging period from 1930 to 1939.
He represented the Soviet Union in the League of Nations, where he consistently promoted the principles of international cooperation, the equality of states and respect for international law.
Litvinov was meticulously working on development of relations between the Soviet Union and the United States. He was involved in the negotiations that resulted the establishment of official diplomatic ties between our countries in 1933 — a landmark event in the history of bilateral ties.
Litvinov was committed to establishing a system of collective security in Europe and forming an anti-fascist coalition in Europe amid growing Nazi menace on the continent.
His contemporaries noted Litvinov’s ability to combine the persistant protection of the USSR's national interests with a readiness for constructive international dialogue. His prophetic words, spoken during a session of the League of Nations in 1935, continue to resonate with the principles of Russian diplomacy today:
💬 Peace is indivisible… It is time to recognise that no country can enjoy security within its own peaceful and tranquil sphere unless peace is also guaranteed for its neighbours, both near and far.
During the #GreatPatrioticWar, Maxim Litvinov served as Deputy People’s Commissar for Foreign Affairs of the USSR. From 1941 to 1943, he was the Soviet Ambassador to the United States, while concurrently serving as the Soviet envoy to Cuba from 1942 to 1943.
🌟 He made a significant contribution to strengthening the anti-Hitler coalition — #WeWereAllies.
Throughout his service in senior government and diplomatic posts, Litvinov distinguished himself as a gifted diplomat, an experienced negotiator and a firm defender of his country’s interests. His professionalism, profound knowledge of international affairs and personal contribution to the development of the Soviet diplomatic service earned him widespread recognition both in the USSR and abroad.
In recognition of his many years of public service and his substantial contribution to Soviet diplomacy, Litvinov was awarded the Order of Lenin, the Order of the Red Banner of Labour and other state decorations of the USSR.
🕯 Maxim Litvinov passed away on 31 December 1951. He found his final rest at Novodevichy Cemetery in Moscow.

| 14 | ⚡️ Article by Russia's Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov “A constant in an era of radical change: On the 25th anniversary of the Russian-Chinese Treaty of Good-Neighbourliness, Friendship, and Cooperation” (July 16, 2026)
Read in full
✍️ Today, as a more equitable #MultipolarWorld takes shape, the multifaceted partnership between Russia and China – two great powers and largest neighbours – stands as a model for interstate engagement founded on equality, a balance of interests, and mutual advantage.
Three decades ago, in a joint summit declaration, Moscow and Beijing first articulated a course towards an equal and trusting partnership oriented towards strategic interaction in the 21st century.
This innovative formula was soon given legal expression in a key bilateral instrument – the Treaty of Good-Neighbourliness, Friendship and Cooperation. Signed in Moscow exactly 25 years ago, on July 16, 2001, by Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Jiang Zemin, the Treaty marked the transition from the normalisation of relations in the late 1980s to an entirely new phase: the forging of a strategic tandem of decisive importance not only for our two countries, but also for the maintenance of global peace, security and stability.
***
We can say with complete confidence that the Treaty has played a decisive role in shaping a new model of Russian-Chinese cooperation – one that imposes no constraints on the sovereignty of either party, thereby affording it the necessary flexibility and, consequently, clear advantages over “classical alliances”.
❗️ I should stress that relations between Russia and China are built on an equal footing, are free from ideological dogma, are not directed against third countries, and remain resilient to the influence of external circumstances.
The Treaty established a robust institutional framework for the qualitative enhancement of trade and economic relations.
The economies of our respective states are intrinsically complementary. Indeed, the figures speak for themselves. Over the past quarter-century, trade turnover has increased more than thirtyfold and, for three consecutive years, it has consistently surpassed $200 billion.
***
Over the past twenty-five years, we have managed to considerably enhance mutual foreign policy coordination on international platforms, one of the defining elements of the Russia-China strategic partnership.
This cooperation is founded on a shared assessment of the current geopolitical environment, as well as its future trajectory. Our countries hold closely aligned, and often identical positions on the majority of global and regional issues. These include the preservation of global strategic stability, arms control, efforts to combat terrorism, and other emerging threats and challenges.
☝️ Together with our Chinese counterparts, we advocate for the political and diplomatic resolution of conflicts by addressing their underlying causes. We strongly oppose policies of “regime change”, the application of double standards, and the use of unilateral sanctions.
***
It is safe to say that the Russian-Chinese Treaty of Good-Neighbourliness, Friendship and Cooperation has successfully withstood the test of time.
🤝 Remaining the unshakable foundation of bilateral relations, it fully meets the fundamental interests of our countries for the long-term historical perspective.

| 15 | ⚡️ Statement by the Russian Foreign Ministry on the killing of the Chief Engineer of the Zaporozhskaya NPP Alexander Yakovlev by the armed forces of Ukraine (July 15, 2026)
On July 15, Ukraine committed yet another gruesome crime.
A deliberate Ukrainian UAV strike on a Zaporozhskaya Nuclear Power Plant (#ZNPP) service vehicle tragically killed the plant’s Chief Engineer Alexander Yakovlev, whose professional duties were directly related to ensuring nuclear safety and nuclear security of the facility, which is regularly subjected to Ukrainian attacks and provocations.
◾️ The driver was also killed in the attack. We extend our deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of those killed.
This criminal act by Kiev is yet another attempt to threaten the safe operation of the ZNPP and intimidate its personnel.
The Nazi–Bandera regime is under the illusion that it can pressure our country in this way, while simultaneously blackmailing its Western patrons into providing ever more money and weapons. For their part, Western countries remain prepared to encourage the Ukrainian authorities, regardless of how reckless their actions become, thereby making themselves complicit in the crimes of the Kiev junta.
❗️ The extreme danger posed by the presence of the Ukrainian armed forces near the ZNPP is now more evident than ever.
Against this backdrop, the accusations levelled against Russia over the deployment of the necessary security forces at the ZNPP, including in relevant reports by the IAEA Director General, sound particularly cynical.
Russia will continue to act in pursuit of the objective of protecting the ZNPP from Ukrainian attacks, in accordance with its national legislation and international obligations.

| 16 | ⚡️ Statement by Rosatom Director General Alexey Likhachev (July 15, 2026)
This afternoon, the Chief Engineer of the Zaporozhskaya Nuclear Power Plant Alexander Yakovlev was killed in a deliberate terrorist attack carried out by the Kiev regime.
A Ukrainian drone struck a Zaporozhskaya NPP service vehicle near the boundary between the plant’s industrial site and Energodar. The attack also killed the driver, Dmitry Filippov.
◾️ Alexander Yakovlev devoted his entire life to the nuclear power industry and perished, in effect, at his post.
The Rosatom team mourns this irreparable loss. We extend our deepest condolences to the families, loved ones and friends of those killed.
This tragedy was made possible not merely by the connivance of Western states, but by their direct encouragement of the criminal Kiev regime to escalate its terrorist attacks.
The price of this policy is measured in human lives – over the past two and a half months, 13 people have been killed and 48 injured – as well as in the real threat of a large-scale nuclear incident affecting vast areas of Russia, Ukraine and Europe.
The international community must understand this. We expect the IAEA to respond swiftly, clearly and unequivocally to this tragedy.
The country’s political leadership has been informed. | 45 |
| 17 | July 15, 1240 – #BattleOfTheNeva
⚔️ #OTD in 1240, Russian forces led by the Prince of Novgorod, Alexander Yaroslavich of the Rurik dynasty, defeated Swedish invaders on the Izhora River, at its confluence with the Neva.
***
The 13th century was a time of hard trials for Rus’. Feudal fragmentation and rivalry among the princes had weakened the country’s defences. From the East came the immense army of Batu Khan, while in the West the Swedes stepped up their ambitions, believing that the northern lands had been left undefended. The invaders planned to establish a fortress at the junction of the rivers, then seize Ladoga, and ultimately bring Veliky Novgorod and the surrounding territories under their control.
❗️ However, the crusaders sought more than tribute and plunder. They intended to conquer the Russian lands and convert the Russian people to Catholicism.
Having learned of the impending invasion from Pelgusy, an elder of the Izhora people, Alexander assembled his army and marched to meet the enemy. Before the battle, he received the blessing of Archbishop Spiridon of Novgorod and addressed his warriors with words that have echoed through the centuries:
“God is not in might, but in truth. Let us not fear the multitude of the enemy, for God is with us.”
The legend has it that on the night before the battle Pelgusy had a vision of a boat carrying holy brothers Boris and Gleb. The next morning, Prince Alexander defeated the Swedish forces and personally struck down their commander, Birger, with his sword. He returned to Veliky Novgorod victorious and entered history forever as Alexander Nevsky.
Two years later, on April 5, 1242, Prince Alexander dealt a decisive blow to western expansion at Lake Chudskoye. The Battle on the Ice halted the advance of the Catholic West into the Orthodox lands and became a turning point in the country’s history, as Rus’ embarked on the path of forging its own distinct Russian civilisation.
The name of Alexander Nevsky is forever woven into the history of our country through his glorious deeds. His invaluable contribution to the building of the Russian state, his feats of arms, and his historic victories earned him the enduring gratitude of future generations and immortal glory.
At one of the most difficult pivotal moments in history, he proved himself not only a gifted military leader, but also a wise statesman and a skilful diplomat. Alexander Yaroslavich continued his father’s work, came to terms with the Horde, and spared Rus’ from further devastation and plunder.
The immortal image of Alexander Nevsky occupies a central place in Russian culture. In 1938, Sergei Eisenstein directed the film, Alexander Nevsky, which became a classic of world cinema, with a score by Sergei Prokofiev. The choral anthem “Arise, Ye Russian People!” became a symbol of national unity and resonated with particular force during the 1941-1945 Great Patriotic War.
☦️ Canonised in 1547, the Holy Right-Believing Grand Prince Alexander Nevsky is today regarded as the patron saint of Russian diplomacy.

| 18 | 🚀 On July 15, 1975, one of the most iconic international space projects – the Apollo-Soyuz Test Project (#ASTP) of the Soviet Soyuz-19 and American Apollo spacecraft, began with their launch from the Baikonur Cosmodrome and Cape Canaveral.
The Soviet crew comprised Alexey Leonov and Valery Kubasov. The Apollo carried astronauts Thomas Stafford, Deke Slayton and Vance Brand.
It was the first joint space mission of the Soviet Union and the United States.
🕰 At 7 pm Moscow Time on July 17, 1975, the Soviet and US spacecraft docked with each other in Earth orbit.
🤝 The historic handshake of the two crew commanders – Alexey Leonov and Thomas Stafford – was streamed live across the planet and has become one of the most recognisable symbols of Soviet-US rapprochement.
✅ The main tasks of the mission were:
• testing the universal docking system;
• testing joint space control and crew interaction;
• creating technologies for future space rescues in emergencies;
• conducting scientific experiments and medical research.
One of the most complicated engineering tasks was the creation of an interoperable docking system. The engineers of the Soviet OKB-1 design bureau (RSC Energia) created the Androgynous Peripheral Attach System (APAS), which allowed either spacecraft to be active or passive during docking.
A docking module was built for visits between the spacecraft, because Soyuz used a regular nitrogen-oxygen mixture at sea-level pressure, while Apollo used pure oxygen at low pressure. The module acted as an airlock and pressure-equalizer.
🚀 The spacecraft remained joined in space for 46 hours and 36 minutes. The crews visited each other, conducted joint scientific experiments, made joint television reports, filming and photography, as well as held the first ever international press conference in space.
The crews maintained friendly relations for years after their historic mission. The friendship between Alexey Leonov and Thomas Stafford was particularly warm. They regularly met and kept in touch until their death.
✨ The Soyuz-Apollo mission was not only a remarkable technical achievement but also an important symbol of the unifying force of science and space exploration even during the Cold War.
☝️ That flight set the stage for future international projects, namely the Mir-Shuttle programme and the International Space Station, where many countries have been working together for over 25 years.

The militants launched a series of deliberate terrorist attacks targeting civilians and seeking to make daily life unbearable. Passenger transport, including scheduled buses, was repeatedly attacked, along with residential buildings and social and energy infrastructure.
The highest numbers of civilian casualties were recorded in the Belgorod Region, the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics, and the Zaporozhye and Kherson Regions.
On July 6-12, Ukrainian neo-Nazi attacks resulted in the deaths of 40 civilians, including one minor, and injuries to 272 others, including 13 children.
