If agencies and political operators would plan a kidnapping, hunt a wife, seek an infant’s DNA, and float a drone strike to stop exposure, why assume they would stop short of a fabricated Russia narrative, the silencing of Seth Rich, lawfare, bankruptcy schemes, or election interference when their grip on power was at risk?
Assange turns the story away from personalities. He says he was convicted by a foreign power for asking for, receiving, and publishing truthful information while he was in Europe. “The criminalization of news gathering activities is a threat to investigative journalism everywhere,” he warns. “Journalists should not be prosecuted for doing their jobs. Journalism is not a crime; it is a pillar of a free and informed society.”
That is the core. If publishing the truth can bring alleged assassination plans and a hunt for a baby’s DNA, the target was never only Julian Assange. It was whether anyone is still allowed to expose the powerful without becoming the next name on the list. Journalism is not a crime.
