THE FAIRFORD FIASCO- STATEMENT Independent media are now confirming that the incident outside the US base wasn't a national emergency. The police statement virtually admits it's all been a terrible mistake. Going forward, the public is encouraged to report any signs of "small scale criminal activity", because you never know.... The Fairford Five have been released, without charge. To cover the authorities' blushes  they are on bail under (no doubt indefinite) investigation. So either these lads were pinching diesel, or fly-tippers  or catspaws in a hoax. Neither explanation puts the government in a good light. They will have to find better reasons to keep ramping up war fever. Since no one else will take national security seriously the Workers Party takes it upon itself to call for an independent public enquiry into the massive failures of intelligence (in every sense) involved in the Fairford fiasco. It is no minor matter to alarm the whole country unnecessarily. It is not okay to turf frantic local residents out of their homes. It is not responsible statesmanship to hint without evidence at terrorism by Iran and Russia. It is not acceptable to cause the President of the United States to look like an even bigger fool than he usually does. Other fools in the British government used the pretext of the "terror" incident to call for higher spending on intelligence and security. An enquiry needs to consider whether the security agencies do not have too much funding already, and whether their behaviour needs to be curbed rather than amplified, bearing in mind earlier egregious cases of misuse of counter-terrorism powers, including the detention of the Leader of the Workers Party, George Galloway, at Gatwick in September 2025. Zack Polanski has stated he is likely to oppose the Zionism is Racism motion as it stands, wanting to see two amendments: 1. The inclusion of solidarity with Jewish people, saying: "as a Jewish person who has shown solidarity with the Palestinian people, I would hope that our Green Party conference shows solidarity with Jewish people." Way to make it about you, Zack. This is transactional liberal left-Zionism at it's finest, as shown by his second desired amendment. 2. He considers a line in the motion calling for a single Palestinian state "imperial". We of course ultimately believe the fate of all Palestine should be in the hands of the Palestinians to decide as they fit. However, the two state solution is ultimately the current status quo, the Workers Party therefore has no shame in supporting a one state solution, the right of return and the total dismantlement of the Israeli settler state. Ultimately Zack's points are little different to his endorsement and reasoning for the IHRA definition in 2018 i.e. you can criticise the excesses of the Israeli government, but do not criticise the settler state itself.
