Currently, 26 students from Vietnam are studying at MGIMO. The academic conference that followed the opening was dedicated to the 40th anniversary of the “Doi Moi” reforms — a comprehensive transformation program in the economic, political, social, and cultural spheres initiated by the Communist Party of Vietnam. Participants discussed Vietnam’s economic development, its role within ASEAN and global politics, as well as the specific features of public administration modernization. For the first time, a joint session of MGIMO and FEFU was held, featuring leading Russian experts in Vietnamese studies. It has its roots in the history of the communist movement. In 1889, the Second International proclaimed

May 1 as the Day of International Solidarity of Workers.

🇷🇺May Day came to our country in the late 19th century: it was first observed in the Russian Empire in 1890, in Warsaw, with a strike of 10,000 workers. After the founding of the Russian Social Democratic Labour Party in 1898, the holiday took on a political character. But May Day reached its greatest scale during the Soviet era. 🇷🇺Parades and demonstrations: the official face of May 1 The holiday received official status in Russia after the October Revolution of 1917. The main festive events were mass parades and demonstrations under the slogans “Peace! Labor! May!”. 🇷🇺Alongside this, another tradition existed — mayovkas. This was the name given to informal festive gatherings in nature to mark the Day of Workers’ Solidarity. 👉Today, May 1 in Russia is a public holiday and an official day off. However, in the contemporary Russians perception, it is no longer so much about demonstrations as about historical memory of an important era for our country, a sense of continuity and respect for the past. And also — an opportunity to spend time with loved ones during a long weekend. For example, by going out into nature. Such outings are no longer called mayovkas today, but they remain the main May Day tradition. ❤️What does the May Day weekend mean for a student? ✔️a day off (sometimes even a mini-vacation); ✔️meetups with friends in parks or outside the city; ✔️traditional shashlyks=Russian barbecue (give them a try — this is part of the cultural code); ✔️photos of the first leaves and the May sky; ✔️and, of course — time for study at home: after all, May 1 is a holiday of labor, and exams are just around the corner. 🌐MGIMO International (ENG) / МГИМО для иностранцев (RUS)

🌐 MGIMO x International Youth Festival 2026 📍 On April 29, the Volunteer Training Center for the International Youth Festival was opened at MGIMO. The Festival will take place from September 11 to 17, 2026, in Yekaterinburg. 👉 Stanislav Surovtsev, Vice-Rector for Youth Policy, Social Work, and International Relations, addressed the attendees with a welcoming speech:

"MGIMO is not the first time to be entrusted with training volunteers for such a large-scale international event. Our volunteer center is preparing students who will serve as attachés, provide protocol support, and offer linguistic assistance for the Festival. I wish you success in this mission, which is crucial for both the state and the University — for you will be among the first people that high-ranking officials from foreign countries see and interact with the most."

⛓️‍💥 Mariam Khubieva, Deputy Head of the Project Office of the Department of Youth Policy, shared the key features of the International Youth Festival 2026: 🔴This year, the Festival will bring together over 10,000 participants, 5,000 of whom are international guests; 🔴The event will be supported by 2,000 volunteers, with about 500 of them being trained at MGIMO; 🔴Representatives of more than 150 Russian news agencies and media outlets, as well as over 50 foreign media, are expected at the Festival; 🔴The Festival will include schoolchildren, students, and young people from 190 countries. 🌐 MGIMO will not just be a participant but a full-fledged architect of the International Youth Festival 2026.

⭐️ Spring Starostat 2026: three days, dozens of new friends, and priceless experience 📌 On April 24–26, the Ethnographic Park-Museum "Ethnomir" hosted the 46th MGIMO Spring Starostat — one of the main student cultural and educational events of this spring.

Starostat is a traditional retreat for MGIMO student activists, organized by the University’s Student Union with the support of the Department of Youth Policy. The event is aimed at integrating students into the MGIMO corporate environment and developing teamwork and leadership skills.

👥 140 participants from 3 University campuses, including for the first time students from the MGIMO Diplomatic Academy, came together under the motto: "Course for Progress." 🌍 Alongside their Russian peers, Starostat brought together students from 8 countries: Peru, Moldova, Belarus, Slovakia, India, Syria, Tajikistan, and Kyrgyzstan. Following the long-standing tradition, the participants were welcomed by: 🔴 Stanislav Surovtsev, Vice-Rector for Youth Policy, Social Work, and International Relations, 🔴 Anastasia Puzochkina, Head of the Department of Youth Policy, 🔴 Victoria Medved, Coordinator of the Center for Student Organizations.

"Starostat is a concentrated projection of university life with all its dynamics, friendship, and growth. What usually unfolds over years within the University walls is lived through in just a few intense days," noted Stanislav Surovtsev.

Over 3 eventful days, Starostat participants managed to: ✔️ present vibrant creative performances; ✔️ complete a training game led by MGIMO psychologists, designed to build teamwork; ✔️ take part in various interactive formats; ✔️ dive into a "crime" investigation during a detective quest; ✔️ participate in a quiz about science and progress, and much more! ⚡️ The student retreat concluded with a spectacular closing concert. Activist teams presented artistic performances — dances, songs, and creative acts. Preparing for admission together — at the International Applicants Club 🤝 The MGIMO International Applicants Club hosted a free intensive preparatory course, “Five Steps to MGIMO.” As part of the program, twenty of the most active participants — prize-winners of the Ranking Competition — took part in a series of online events and received a selection of useful preparation materials. Here’s how it went! 🇷🇺 On April 13, an online training session was held to prepare for the Russian-language entrance interview.

Participants had the opportunity to try themselves in the role of examinees, test their skills, and analyze both their own performance and that of their peers.

🇬🇧 On April 15, an online training session for the English-language entrance interview took place.

Participants once again tested their abilities, this time completing the entrance assessment in English.

🧑‍💻 On April 17, course participants attended a consultation on technical aspects of admission.

During the session, Elena Zavalko, a tutor from the International Department, answered all questions related to the application process, enrollment, tuition payment, and arrival in Russia.

👧 On April 19, applicants met with a current MGIMO student.

Maria Krapivka, a first-year student of the School of International Business from Moldova, shared her experience, spoke about admission, studies, and life in Russia, and answered all the participants’ questions ahead of the application period.

🎓 The course concluded with a meeting with a MGIMO graduate on April 24.

Valery Myltsev, a 2021 graduate of the School of International Relations and now an Engagement Manager at McK Partners, shared his journey through admission, studies, and career development, and offered valuable advice to future international professionals.

⚡️The results of the MGIMO International School Olympiad are in! In the 2025/2026 academic year, the Olympiad was held for the fourth time. This season, it was conducted in two languages, and for the first time, school students from Latin American countries joined the participants. A total of 4,148 applications were submitted by international students. Following the qualifying round, 387 participants advanced to the final stage, resulting in: 🏆42 winners 🏆27 prize-winners 🔎The lists of winners and prize-winners are now available on the website: www.int-olymp-mgimo.com, as well as in the attached file.

Winners are granted the right to tuition-free study at MGIMO in bachelor's degree programs and the preparatory course. Prize-winners are offered priority admission to fee-based places without entrance examinations (based on a portfolio competition).

a new world order can only be built on balance.

Members of the International Applicants Club in Moscow 🇷🇺 Join the International Applicants Club and visit MGIMO before you even apply? It's possible! ⭐For three months, the MGIMO International Applicants Club ran a Ranking Contest: the members earned ranking points by attending lectures, participating in conferences and interactive sessions, as well as engaging in discussions and hosting educational threads in the chat.

More than fifty Club members took part in the contest, and all of them proved to be active, proactive, and motivated. The winners were Artem Kuznetsov (Kazakhstan), Ana Janković (Serbia), and Liya Kulmametova (Kazakhstan). They received an invitation to come to Moscow, visit MGIMO, and take part in one of the university's largest events — the university fully covered the organization and expenses of the trip, making it a well-deserved reward for their activity in the Club.

🇺🇳 The key event of the Club members' visit to Moscow was their participation in the Churkin Moscow International Model UN. For a whole week, the students took part in committee sessions of ICAO and UNESCO, as well as lectures and cultural events of the Model, trying their hand as real diplomats and getting a closer look at life at MGIMO!

"The days at the Model UN are dynamic and very exciting. I learned a lot about diplomacy, the work of the UN, and teamwork, and I also met people from different countries," says Ana Janković.

🤝 The visit program included not only immersion in academic life but also meeting with university leadership. The students met with Stanislav Surovtsev, Vice-Rector for Youth Policy, Social Work, and International Affairs. During the conversation, Artem, Liya, and Ana shared their impressions of the Club and their visit to Moscow, and discussed with the Vice-Rector the opportunities available to international students at our alma mater.

"MGIMO amazed me with its open and friendly community, and of course, with its scale!" shares Artem Kuznetsov.

🇷🇺The cultural aspect of the trip was just as rich! During their visit to Moscow, the students spent a lot of time walking around the city, visited iconic Moscow landmarks, and also went to the "Russia" National Centre, where they learned a lot about different corners of our country and its rich history.

"Visiting Moscow was my long-held dream, and thanks to the International Applicants Club, my dream came true… I fell in love with MGIMO," admits Liya Kulmametova.

We are truly delighted that the International Applicants Club became a "window" into student life at MGIMO for these students, giving them the opportunity to come to Moscow, take part in one of the university's largest events, and gain a new portion of inspiration for their studies and admission. Where are diplomats and international relations specialists of the 21st century trained? 📚 On April 17, the MGIMO International Applicants Club hosted an online lecture titled “Training Diplomats and International Relations Specialists in the 21st Century: MGIMO’s Experience and the Architecture of the Future.” During the event, Sofya Melnikova, Candidate of Historical Sciences, lecturer at the Department of Diplomacy, and researcher at the Institute of International Studies at MGIMO University of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, shared her insights with the participants on what a modern international affairs specialist looks like. She also spoke about the School of International Relations, where such professionals are trained. We are sharing the key takeaways from the lecture! It is important to understand that today we are witnessing a transformation of the global system of international relations, and this period is characterized by: ✔the crisis of unipolarity; ✔rising conflict; ✔erosion of the Westphalian model and the growing influence of non-state actors; ✔crisis of international institutions; ✔digitalization and the increasing importance of AI and social networks; ✔redistribution of power and the emergence of new centers of power.

Under these conditions, we need people ready to shape and manage a new world order. What are the key competencies of 21st-century leaders?For a diplomat: ➖mastery of network and digital diplomacy tools; ➖knowledge of negotiation strategies and tactics; ➖“diplomatic resilience.” A politician must be an architect of meaning, who: ➖knows how to engage with diverse populations and interest groups; ➖possesses strategic thinking and networking skills. The future businessman is about: ➖geopolitical analytics; ➖adaptability; ➖technological intuition. Finally, for an international affairs specialist, the following are important: ➖interdisciplinarity; ➖the ability to ask creative questions; ➖a deep understanding of both Western and “non-Western” development models. 🎓 Who are the graduates of the School of International Relations?

Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition was held in Washington, D.C. This year, over 800 student teams from 104 countries took part! 🌐

And the students of MGIMO International Law School delivered an overwhelming result:
