The Department of Examinations has finalized all arrangements to conduct the 2026 G.C.E. Advanced Level Examination from August 10 to September 5 across 2,532 islandwide centers. Key details announced by Commissioner General Indika Kumari Liyanage include:
Candidates: A total of 372,310 candidates (264,496 school and 107,814 private) will sit for the exam.
Admissions: School admission cards were sent to principals, while private candidates were mailed theirs. Lost admissions can be re-downloaded from the official Department website. Signatures must be properly certified beforehand.
Identification: Candidates must present a valid NIC, driving license, or passport. If an NIC is lost, two photos certified by the school principal (for school candidates) or Grama Niladhari (for private candidates) are required.

Special University Admission for Applicants with Exceptional Achievements in Sports
Applications are invited by the University Grants Commission from candidates who have demonstrated outstanding performance in the field of sports to follow degree programs in Sports Science & Management (offered by Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka and University of Sri Jayewardenepura), Sports Science (offered by University of Kelaniya), and Physical Education (offered by Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka and University of Jaffna).
Qualifications required to be fulfilled by applicants for the above special admission:
* Winning medals or participation in an Olympic game.
* Winning at least a Gold, Silver, or Bronze medal at Commonwealth Games, Asian Games, or SAF Games.

Applicants who gain university admission under this special scheme must complete a foundation course conducted by The Open University of Sri Lanka prior to commencing their academic studies.
Applications from candidates fulfilling all the above requirements will be accepted up to September 08, 2026.
