this week was probably βin remembrance of my friendsβ week
itβs been a while since iβve met most of them last time. itβs been a while since i felt so carefree even if that meant for a few hours.
because when you get tangled up in work and whatever else youβre busy with, too much becomes personal. success becomes personal. failure becomes personal.
with friends tho, itβs possible to take life easier with a pinch of humor. topics you used to overthink about on your own turn to a reason for a good laugh.
sure, knowing your priorities is a must - and knowing who fits in your life trajectory too. but the ones who truly matter - understand and appreciate - are better be kept around.
have a nice day
i wonder how much of this can be shared. but as this channel works more as a diary, who cares.
today was a busy day.
i've spent close to a month back in my hometown, Namangan, for certain reasons. there, life moves at a much slower pace - or maybe that's just because i could not busy myself properly. i had mostly two states during my stay there: uncomfortable fidgeting irky feeling that i'm not producing anything of value (studying didn't help either, it was consumption after all, even if that of knowledge) and the dooming sensation of being left out from the fast-moving world of high achievers, which could translate to the definition of who i am. which, really, isn't even close to reality.
but it was a good reminder that peaceful life devoid of hustle work is equal to keeping me in a segragation unit. it sucks.
now, back to the present.
remember a few posts above i mentioned working on one business project - a merge of consulting agency and integrated business studies platform? a center that will be working with leading companies in Uzbekistan to provide services in various fields of consulting world, starting from finance down to digitalization, and will be a platform for students to hone their skills either as analysts or interns. anyway, this much description should be enough for now.
yesterday i was warned by my professor that the rector has the habit of cutting people short to get the core of the idea. i was told to prepare a 30-sec version of my 5-minute presentation too, just in case.
for your information, our rector is not just an academia person - he is at the heart of the whole business market of Uzbekistan, playing a key role in Akfa Holdings development with its 200 plus companies
a fancy conference room. the rector. the dean, who managed to come and attend the pitch. the professor. and me. nervous? yeah, sure. but still smth inside me was sure that the proposed initiative is worth it and should be taken to implementation. that the rector would believe in it too.
and yes, the rector sat there and carefully listened to the whole presentation, and talked with us for extra 30 or so minutes sharing his own visions and versions of how this should be approached. it clicked. he turned out to be more enthusiastic and willing to support than i hoped for - i mean, him suggesting that i'm welcome to reach out to him to schedule online meetings so that he could share his own opinion on the solutions we've come up with? loved that.
on the spot he connected us with some of the companies within the Akfa Holdings, including Media Park.
already tomorrow we are going to meet with the director of Media Park as our first case to work on. they apparently are struggling with offline retail sales as online shopping grew popular. so the focus for us is now building the portfolio, working on the cases and showing results to see for ourselves how far we can scale at the moment. plus, building a team.
i hope none of the people from university are going to read this, but. i had lunch with professors and the dean. sounds silly? whatever. lunch isn't the point. having two people whom you respect A LOT sitting with you at the table and listening to them casually talking about what's going on with what people in the market? pure joy. not as smth amazing in itself, but rather as a moment that you will remember as a turning point.
plus, later today i was offered to become a personal assistant to another person whom i respect. that person has several projects and a business going on and needs help with management. money is good, but what iβm more glad about is being able to see the inner workings of such a productive busy person. cuz what? cuz one day i know i'll be hiring my own personal assistants.
it's a different world when you move from your high-school active student with projects era to this.
anyway.
i have a few hours to complete the research work.
bye!
Itβs been a while since I read a truly good book.
Last time it was One Hundred Years of Solitude by Garcia Marquez. Perhaps iβm biased to generational history sagas.
Earlier it was a Little Life, a modern book yet one which also followed its characters down to decades later. So much depth, immersive experience.
Itβs true that I can gulp through a whole book in a few days non-stop if I find its storytelling convincing enough. This book - Pachinko by Min Jin Lee - had it all. History. Family stories. Fast pace without missing any background characters development.
Sunja, a Korean woman who had to move to Japan during Japanese occupation of Korea, was an emblematic figure of those who suffer for the sake of their loved ones in the most aspirational way possible, evoking respect rather than pity. The book follows the lives of her parents, children, grandchildren and even grand-grandchildren. And you see how the writing evolves and adapts through time. I felt the same sense of satisfaction of exploring anotherβs life when I read One Hundred Years of Solitude. Controversial? Difficult to digest at times? Maybe. But equally beautiful in its own ugliness. History was never meant to be pretty. Itβs there to show and to teach.
Then I had the sudden urge to read something similar on Uzbek history. Of Russian colonization of Central Asia. Of the Golden Horde. Iβve heard that Abdullah Qodiriy wrote his famous Bygone Days (Oβtkan Kunlar) as a warning against dispersal of nations in the face of a mutual threat (also in the photo). Of the importance of unity of force. Would Uzbekistan be different today if the khans hadnβt yielded to corruption? Iβve tried reading The Scorpion in the altar (Mehrobdan Chayon) in Uzbek, but the old language proved slightly beyond my current level. So I might as well start in English for now to grasp the concepts, before moving to the juice of it in the original language.
A good read, definitely worth giving a try on summer nights.

told you i could
chatgpt told to leave it here
ALSO I GOT AN OFFER TO WORK WITH A PROFESSOR ON AN EMPIRICAL RESEARCH (previous 3 were systematic literature reviews)
and not just any, but the professor i most admire
when youβre in your hometown and finally can speak your dialect uzbek without constantly thinking whether people understand. but if in tashkent people would ask whether iβm khorezmian (iβm from namangan), then people here are saying my βway of structuring sentences is unusual, probably cuz i speak english oftenβ
:(
todayβs the last day of spring 2025
an hour before summer
try to do smth memorable

What an ABSOLUTELY amazing day it was yesterdayβ¨
6 speakers. Only girls in the audience. Long speeches and nice chats.
I used that 1 hour to the fullest as itβs rare when you have such an extended time (except for lectures). Usually you do a 15-30 minute presentation on one specific topic. Here i had the chance to fully explain what i had to experience, teach myself, feel and think of, to go to where i am today.
They all were mostly my peers, which was great. I didnβt go there to teach or lecture, but simply to share what served me well.
Getting approached by people to hear that they felt through my presentation and all that i had said β that was the best part. I hope i was helpful.
a small tip, if you want camera to love you make nice appealing presentation slides:)
and yeah, i did talk about not wasting time on boys - come on, i had to.
Thanks once again to GirlsTalk for such a heartwarming experienceπ

for anyone struggling with sleep - shift your tasks to the first half of the day whenever possible
i got used to doing everything in the evening or at night (iβm a big procrastinator, honestly) thinking im being a mega brain for staying up late so busy.
but in reality it was just eating up my energy - going to bed late, not having enough sleep, feeling fatigued throughout the day. vicious cycle.
now, if i have a task to complete, i make a note to myself saying that βnext morning is important, gotta do this and that.β so, i go to bed earlier with a proper sleep schedule.
surprised that iβve kept waking up at 4 in the morning consistently for the past few weeks.
so, although it is exams week - when everyone goes cramming in the last minute - i managed to complete a range of other assignments. be that writing research, preparing a speech and presentation for an event, applying to different programs (+rewatching Godfather all parts) - it didnβt seem all that overwhelming anymore.
i finally began feeling more in control again.
3 hour straight writing
it's been a while since i enjoyed like this
plus cool breeze outside - perfect evening
