ከጥቂት ዓመታት በፊት በአዲስ አበባ ከሚገኘው መኝታ ቤቴ የቴክኖሎጂ ቪዲዮዎችን መቅረጽ ስጀምር ምንም ስቱዲዮ ወይም ቡድን አልነበረኝም—ስልክ እና ለቴክኖሎጂ ያለኝ ፍላጎት ብቻ።
በቅርቡ ደግሞ በቀጥታ የቴሌቪዥን ሥርጭት በሩዋንዳው ፕሬዚዳንት ፖል ካጋሜ ፊት ቆሜ፡ «በአርቴፊሻል ኢንተለጀንስ (AI) ዘመን የአፍሪካን ታሪክ ማን ይጽፋል?» የሚል ጥያቄ ጠየቅሁ።
የዛሬዎቹ የ AI ሞዴሎች የአፍሪካን መረጃ እና እይታ በበቂ ሁኔታ አያካትቱም። መረጃው ጎደሎ ከሆነ ደግሞ በኢኮኖሚያችን፣ በጤናችን እና በትምህርታችን ላይ የሚወሰኑ ውሳኔዎች የተዛቡ ይሆናሉ። አፍሪካ የ AI ተጠቃሚ ብቻ ከሆነች ታሪኳን ሌላ አካል ይጽፈዋል።
እኛ ተጠቃሚ ብቻ ሳንሆን ገንቢዎች፣ አስተዋጽኦ አበርካቾች እና የራሳችን ታሪክ ጸሐፊዎች መሆን አለብን።

Recently, I stood in front of President Paul Kagame of Rwanda on live television and asked him one question:
"Who will write Africa's narrative in the age of AI?"
Here is why that question matters.
Most of the data behind today's AI models was not created by Africans or from African perspectives. When the data is incomplete, the systems built on it carry those gaps forward, into decisions that will shape our economies, our hospitals, our classrooms.
If Africa only consumes AI, someone else writes our story.
We need to be builders. Contributors. Storytellers.
That is the mission now: making sure Africa has a real voice in shaping the future of AI. Not as an afterthought. As an author.
What started in a bedroom turned into a seat at the table. And the table is still being set.
