#CurrentAffair #Environment Geothermal energy (potential question for future) The intense heat in the Earth's interior is a powerful source of clean energy called geothermal energy. Given India's rich geothermal resources, this form of energy holds immense promise as a round-the-clock available source of power. The National Policy on Geothermal Energy aims to harness this potential. It seeks to make geothermal energy a key part of the nation's renewable energy story as India drives towards Net Zero by 2070. The recent commissioning of the first two geothermal wells in Ladakh marks the beginning of this journey.

#titbits Consistency is key to success If you are preparing consistently in the right direction, you are moving toward success Don't be negative - this might go wrong, that might go wrong etc. If u r getting constant negative thots, sit and figure out steps for that If you believe results are not in our hands , destiny decides etc ; you will not be hopeful and study at all. We are humans and can't be like great Krishna in real life - do ur best , leave the results. For us results do matter, else we lose motivation and results happen with consistency, right direction At the same time don't be blind to the possible risks or challenges. Make contingency plans, backup plans(doesn't apply for relationshipsšŸ˜„) Be realistic Studying = increased chances of clearing šŸ“ˆ

#CurrentAffair #Mapping The Chakma and Hajong communities are displaced groups from erstwhile East Pakistan (now Bangladesh) who were settled in India during the 1960s and remain at the center of a long-standing dispute over citizenship and indigenous rights AAPSU (Arunachal students union) strongly objects to including Chakma and Hajong individuals—whom they categorize as refugees—in the voter lists, arguing it directly threatens the land rights, identity, and demographic security of Arunachal's indigenous communities

#CurrentAffair #Governance Surrogate advertisement Maharashtra FDA has issued notices to Shah Rukh Khan, Ajay Devgn and Tiger Shroff over their Vimal Elaichi endorsements, alleging the ads could amount to surrogate promotion of prohibited Vimal Pan Masala. The FDA says the brand name, visuals, dialogue and market identity could reinforce Vimal’s association with pan masala, potentially violating food safety, consumer protection and tobacco-control laws. What is the penalty for violating these rules? Under Section 21 of the Consumer Protection Act, 2019, the Central Consumer Protection Authority can direct the discontinuation or modification of a false or misleading advertisement and impose a penalty of up to ₹10 lakh on the endorser. For subsequent contraventions, the penalty may extend to ₹50 lakh. The authority can also prohibit the endorser from endorsing any product for up to one year. For subsequent contraventions, the ban may extend to three years. Which legal provisions are violated 1)The FDA has said that such advertisements are in contravention of various sections of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, and the rules and regulations framed thereafter. These include Section 24, which restricts advertisements and prohibits unfair trade practices relating to food, including misleading advertisements. 2) Central Consumer Protection Authority’s 2022 guidelines on the prevention of misleading advertisements and endorsements 3) Prohibiting advertisements under the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products (Prohibition of Advertisement and Regulation of Trade and Commerce, Production, Supply and Distribution) Act, 2003 (COTPA).

#CurrentAffair #Economy Headline inflation In India, which recently accelerated to 3.93 percent in May from 3.48 percent in April (according to official data), is particularly sensitive to agricultural disruptions. Food items account for about 40 percent of the Consumer Price Index basket, making any setback in farm output a potential trigger for rising prices.

#CurrentAffair #Environment Paraquat India is set to remove one of its most controversial agricultural chemicals from the market, as the government advances a sweeping ban on paraquat, a highly toxic herbicide with a notorious safety record. The draft notification, issued by the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, marks a significant policy shift and could reshape how hazardous pesticides are regulated across the country.

#CurrentAffair #IR India and China China to proceed with Brahmaputra mega dam despite new concerns Dubbed the ā€˜project of the century’ by Beijing, it has been included in China’s 15th Five-Year Plan for renewable energy; of concern to India is the impact it could have downstream, particularly in the aftermath of the recent devastating flash flood along the Nepal-China border Safety and Ecology Questions The site sits in a seismically active zone. Some Chinese geologists have questioned building over an active fault. The project is called run-of-the-river but will still have a reservoir, so storage and tunnel diversion matter for downstream flow. India’s Concerns India wants to know how much water will be stored, how the tunnel will change lean-season and flood flows, and what the ecological impact will be. Public data is scarce, so impact assessment is hard.

The discussion on food security in India has revolved around having enough food. While the Green Revolution played an important role in achieving caloric sufficiency, food security cannot be restricted just to having enough food. It has to encompass adequate nutrition, availability of affordable proteins and resilient livelihoods as well. Therefore, livestock becomes very important in this discussion. The livestock industry has been growing by around 7-7.4 per cent per year since 2014-15 and contributes to more than 30 per cent of agricultural GVA. However, NFSA and PDS are still largely cereal-centric in nature.

Why India’s food security debate must give greater attention to livestock - https://www.thehindubusinessline.com/economy/agri-business/why-indias-food-security-debate-must-give-greater-attention-to-livestock/article71431261.ece, For the best experience read this on BusinessLine App. https://thbl.news/mobileapp

#CurrentAffair #Governance Water Dispute Inter-State Water Conflicts in India Rivers often flow across State borders, so sharing water becomes a federal issue when States cannot agree. The Constitution and a special law create a path outside ordinary court battles. Article 262 Article 262 lets Parliament make laws to decide disputes on inter-State rivers and river valleys. Parliament may also bar the Supreme Court and other courts from hearing such disputes, so specialised tribunals can handle them. Inter-State River Water Disputes Act, 1956 If a State asks the Centre for help and talks look unlikely to succeed, the Central Government can set up a Water Disputes Tribunal under this Act. The aim is a binding award based on basin facts, not only politics. How a Tribunal Works A tribunal is headed by a chairperson and members nominated by the Chief Justice of India, usually sitting or retired judges. It studies the basin, water availability and past use, then gives an award. Examples are the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal and the Krishna Water Disputes Tribunal. Role of the Supreme Court Article 262 can keep these disputes out of regular court jurisdiction. In practice, States still approach the Supreme Court under Article 136 through Special Leave Petitions, claiming legal error or rights violations. The Court then gives a final judgment, as it did in the Cauvery case. After the Award Once the sharing formula is final, the Centre can create an implementation body. The Cauvery Water Management Authority is one such body. It watches daily flows and regulates sharing in surplus and drought years.

#CurrentAffair #Governance Water Dispute The Cauvery Water Dispute between Tamil Nadu and Karnataka has resurfaced in the Supreme Court due to deficient monsoon rainfall, distress year projections, and disagreements over daily water release quantities The Cauvery Water Management Authority (CWMA) and Cauvery Water Regulation Committee (CWRC) directed Karnataka to release specific volumes of water (including orders scaling up to 12,000 cusecs and a persistent 3,500 cusecs daily mandate) to Tamil Nadu Karnataka's Stand: Karnataka is facing severe reservoir deficits—with inflows dropping over 65%—and has declared numerous taluks drought-hit. Karnataka contends it cannot fulfill the higher release demands and plans to challenge the directives in court Tamil Nadu's Stand: Tamil Nadu maintains that lower delta farmers rely heavily on timely releases for paddy cultivation. Tamil Nadu approached the Supreme Court demanding strict compliance and accusing Karnataka of failing to release sufficient water
