In 1980, cotton was the most used fiber of the four, with the demand for it standing at around 14mt, more than double the figure for any its competitors in the market. Following 35 years, both rose significantly, with the demand for polyester reaching a chart high of close to 70mt, while the figure for the former ended the period at just above 30mt.
In contrast, the other two –cellulosic and wool, saw rather flat trends in demand. They started the period in question at approximately 2.5mt each, and held steady at this level until 2000, when the figure for cellulosic began to increase, registering more than a two-fold growth to little less than 10mt.
