How Are the Artworks of the Mechanical Sentiments Collection Created? We spoke with artists Andy Artyuhin & Alina Lutaeva about the creative process behind the works, the stages of 3D scanning, and how the project bridges the digital and physical worlds. πŸ”… The Characters of the Project The idea of the project is to bring together people from diverse communities, ages, and backgrounds, while adding a layer of our perception. Participants could be casual acquaintances: friends from Parisian parties, strangers on the street, or a bartender in Venice who offered a glass of wine. A character doesn’t have to be a close friend β€” what matters is the connection and the fleeting story born from that encounter. This is where the project begins. πŸ”… 3D Scanning Andy began experimenting with 3D scanning in 2021, using professional, techique, and expensive equipment. The process was slow and labor-intensive. Today, thanks to smartphone’s apps like LiDAR , it takes just 15-20 minutes to create a high-quality 3D scan that combines photography and volume. Heavy equipment is a thing of the past. πŸ”… Transformation A 3D scan consists of two elements: form and texture. For the project, we focused solely on the texture. Inspired by the Impressionists, we minimally altered the textures, avoiding color correction or retouching to preserve their natural randomness and authenticity. πŸ”… Lettering Alina created the text by hand, using a brush and black paint, and later digitized it into vector graphics. The lettering reflects personal thoughts, emotions, and associations tied to the project’s participants. It plays with the universality of language: phrases that are familiar to all but hold unique meanings for each individual. πŸ”… Physical Objects Each digital piece can be transformed into a tangible one, such as a sculpture or a printed pattern. At a group exhibition in Paris this November, Andy presented an art piece β€” a texture brought to life through this approach. Sense ru β€’ Sense X

Exhibition "Mechanical Sentiments" by Andry Artyhin & Alina Lutaeva at the Residency in Venice πŸ”… In November, the artists spent about two weeks working at a residency in Italy as part of the Venice Biennale 2024. Andy and Alina scanned random visitors, residents, and landscapes of Venice. As a result, they created textile objects featuring 3D portraits and stories of people and presented the series at an exhibition in the residency space. NFT collection on Sense will continue the "Mechanical Sentiments" project β€” stay tuned to learn more about how the project was created πŸ‘€ Sense ru β€’ Sense X

Q&A with Artists: On Art, Design, Fashion, and Digital Technologies πŸ—― We talked with Andy Artyuhin & Alina Lutaeva, authors
Q&A with Artists: On Art, Design, Fashion, and Digital Technologies πŸ—― We talked with Andy Artyuhin & Alina Lutaeva, authors of Mechanical Sentiments on Sense β€” art project that involves people from all over the world. The artists create 3D portraits of strangers and bring their stories to unique digital and physical art objects. Andy Artyuhin β€” an art director, artist, and designer based in Paris. He works at the crossroads of fashion, installations, AR, and NFTs. Deconstructing form and working with context are at the core of his creative approach. Alina Lutaeva β€” a multidisciplinary artist and curator living in Paris. Her work delves into themes of self-discovery, transformation, the fleeting nature of moments, and childhood. How did you become artists? Alina:
I’ve wanted to be an artist all my life but never knew what kind β€” I was interested in everything: painting, advertising, and design. I still constantly experiment with techniques and mediums, reinventing my art.
We both earned a Master of Fine Arts degree and later moved into design and illustration: I became an illustrator, while Andy became an art director. Our first contemporary art exhibitions were in France and Italy, which set our course. We’ve been living in Paris for two years now and recently returned from a residency in the parallel program of the Venice Biennale, where we worked on Mechanical Sentiments and held an exhibition.
Andy:
I wanted to be a scientist, but it turned out to be too difficult. So, I decided to become an artist instead. My main activities are combining different media, going beyond a single genre, and working with context and the audience.
What art methods do you work with? Alina:
I work with text and fragile materials like mirrors and papier-mΓ’chΓ©. For me, text is a dual symbol of unity and misunderstanding. Recently, I’ve been enjoying creating installations and exploring new media.
Andy:
Deconstruction, homages, and references. I create kinetic sculptures that engage users, inviting them to interact with both the object and the surrounding space β€” in galleries, on runways, and beyond. Clothing as a form of media, sculptures and installations, interaction with digital technologies and physical space.
How did your duo come together?
We initially worked separately on our own ideas, helping each other at exhibitions. Eventually, we decided to collaborate in art, creating our first joint project, Mechanical Sentiments, which we plan to develop further together.
What inspires you? Andy:
The art world. I really enjoy institutional self-reflection and homages to other artists.
Alina:
The barely perceptible moments in life that fill it with unique meaning.
We’ll soon share the story behind the creation of the Mechanical Sentiments NFT collection! Stay tuned! πŸ¦‹

Sense x Mechanical Sentiments ✦ by Andy Artyuhin & Alina Lutaeva A new art project on Sense explores emotions familiar to everyone β€” joy, embarrassment, love, and inspiration. The artists meet people from around the world, create their digital 3D portraits, and, inspired by their stories, make unique art objects. The NFT collection Mechanical Sentiments consists of two parts: ✨ Over 50 3D scans of people from across the globe. ✨ Inscriptions inspired by the personal stories and experiences of people, integrated into art objects by the artists. ⭐️ Total supply: 999 πŸ“† Mint date: To be announced The project began in Paris and includes digital objects, physical textile works, and graphics. It draws inspiration from the theme of the 2024 Venice Biennale β€” Stranieri Ovunque (Foreigners Everywhere). This autumn, Mechanical Sentiments was presented as part of a physical exhibition in Venice during the Biennale’s parallel program. Andy Artyuhin β€” an art director, multidisciplinary artist, and designer based in Paris. Alina Lutaeva β€” a multidisciplinary artist and curator also based in Paris. This project is our contribution to the dialogue about what it means to be a foreigner everywhere and how this concept can help us better understand ourselves and each other. Stay tuned with us πŸŒͺ
