"Two extreme theories about the Socialist prime minister’s decision have emerged, she said, with neither flattering the premier. “It’s either childish narcissism or it’s maximum Machiavellianism.”" __ "The second option is to resign and seek to anoint a new Socialist leader, who would need to be approved as prime minister by the current parliament. If he has already chosen that path, the five days of reflection would really be about “contacting his successor as head of the government and getting everything in order ahead of Monday”, said Pablo Simón, a politics professor at the Universidad Carlos III de Madrid. Naming Spain’s first female prime minister as his successor would be a point of pride for Sánchez. " https://www.ft.com/content/022a1e68-ee10-470b-99d0-2df675abdc0a Archived: https://archive.ph/lI6az

🤡🤡 "The prime minister recently expressed his support for other progressive politicians who have suffered the harassment of the far right, such as U.S. President Joe Biden and Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. He visited the two in Washington and Brasília and told them that it was essential to unite to confront the “international ultra-right.”" https://english.elpais.com/spain/2024-04-24/spanish-prime-minister-pedro-sanchez-considers-resigning-due-to-the-unprecedented-attacks-against-his-wife-by-the-right-and-the-far-right.html Archived: https://archive.ph/Wgao2

Spanish PM Pedro Sánchez considers resigning due to ‘the unprecedented attacks’ against his wife

The leader of the Socialist Party announced he is rethinking his position after a judge opened a case against Begoña Gómez following a complaint filed by an ultra-conservative group

"A wave of political turmoil crashed over Spain on Thursday as Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez publicly weighed resigning his post after a judge agreed to investigate his wife over allegations that he and other officials decried as a politically driven smear campaign. The judge’s decision to take up the case — which was brought by a self-described anti-graft group on the basis of online news reports about alleged influence peddling — prompted Mr. Sánchez’s supporters to coalesce behind him and public prosecutors to move quickly on Thursday to try to get the case dismissed. Mr. Sánchez, whose political survival skills have for years astonished his supporters and detractors alike, wrote in a public letter Wednesday that the accusations against his wife, Begoña Gómez, were false and amounted to harassment. One of the most prominent leftist leaders in Europe, Mr. Sánchez has canceled his public schedule while he reflects on his next move. He plans to address the nation on Monday." https://www.nytimes.com/2024/04/25/world/europe/spain-pedro-sanchez.html Archived: https://archive.ph/ZTVSR

Zelensky’s legitimacy will soon be questioned The fate of the current regime in Kiev is sealed, spokesman Dmitry Peskov has said. Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky will not be able to remain in office indefinitely, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said in an interview published on Sunday. He will have to “somehow exonerate himself” in the eyes of his fellow citizens and other nations in order to maintain his grip on power, the Russian official said. A presidential election was scheduled to take place in Ukraine on March 31. Zelensky canceled it along with all other elections in December 2023, citing martial law and the conflict with Russia. He also announced at the time that no new elections for either president or parliament will be held as long as martial law remains in force. The move essentially extended his mandate indefinitely. “I believe Zelensky’s fate is sealed, “A moment will come soon when many people, including those inside Ukraine, will question his legitimacy.” t.me/ForeignAgentIntel
