I’ve just read an article that makes me want to get a pet crow. My only concern is that it might actually turn out to be smarter than me, and I’m not sure my ego could take that blow. The article itself is genuinely fascinating, though. Give it a read — if, unlike me, you’re not intimidated by how intelligent crows are. 👩‍🏫 Quizlet

Sometimes, powerful works of art hide ugly truths about their creators. Today, I’d like to share the story behind the famous “Afghan Girl” photograph. The photographer in question, as it turns out, could have used the very rear‑view mirror he was so determined to hold up to everyone but himself. Granted, he didn’t do anything outright evil, but the ethical blind spots are hard to ignore. The image became iconic, globally recognisable, and endlessly reproduced — yet the girl at the centre of it all remained unnamed, uncredited, and unprotected for years. 👩‍🏫 Quizlet

Few people know that at AEE, you can take individual classes. We do not have many students who take one-to-one lessons, since when preparing for, say, Cambridge exams, it is often better to study in a group: peers teach you as much as (and sometimes even more than) a teacher. With our individual students, we usually work on something specific: writing or speaking, preparing for an interview, improving exam strategy, or building confidence in a particular area. And today, we wanted to share a course review from one of our students, who is currently having lessons with Vladimir. Nelly, thank you for your kind words!

A few days ago, our school organised a webinar on Writing Assessment Challenges, where Vladimir discussed eight key challenges assessors must address to ensure valid and reliable marking. On 07 June, Susan Safarova — our wonderful colleague and co‑author of many methodology and proficiency‑level courses — will open the next chapter in this series, this time focusing on Speaking. Susan will shed light on practical challenges, common myths, and other factors that may influence decision‑making when assessing Speaking skills under exam conditions. 🕒 Time: 07 June 2026, 11:00 (Moscow time) 🔗 To secure your place, follow this link: https://vk.cc/cYeD65
