Push the boundaries of your thought. Only then you will discover how divine the mind truly is.

The punishment of every disordered mind is its own disorder.β
A disordered mind doesnβt need to be punished from the outside. It punishes itself.
If you cannot govern your own thoughts, emotions and desires, they begin governing you. You become anxious because you cannot control where your attention goes. You become emotionally unstable because every thought can change your internal state. You make decisions from temporary urges and then have to live with their consequences.
Eventually what begins as disorder in the mind starts expressing itself through the rest of your life. Your relationships suffer. Your habits change. Your body carries the stress. Your decisions become less conscious.
This is why inner order matters so much. You experience life through your own mind. If there is chaos within the instrument you experience life through, eventually everything you experience becomes coloured by that chaos.

βThe spirit of man is the candle of the Lord, searching all the inward parts.β β Proverbs 20:27
I think this verse is describing awareness itself.
The βcandleβ is that inner light that allows you to see what is happening inside your own psyche. Without awareness, thoughts, emotions and desires can operate in darkness. You act them out without even understanding what moved you.
But when that inner light is turned inward, you begin seeing the hidden motives behind your actions, the emotions behind your thoughts and the desires behind your decisions.
Maybe enlightenment is literally that. Bringing light into the parts of yourself that were previously unconscious.

βWhere your treasure is, there your heart will be also.β
Matthew 6:21
Nearly every action is the fulfilment of some emotion or desire within the heart.
A thought can exist in the mind, but when that thought becomes emotionally charged, it creates desire, and desire moves us towards action.
The heart is almost like the bridge between thought and action.
So when Jesus says, βwhere your treasure is, there your heart will be also,β your treasure is what youβve given value to internally.
And whatever the heart values, the mind and body naturally begin moving towards.
Your actions eventually reveal what your heart truly treasures.

Your imagination is a microcosmic world where your awareness is free to exercise its own will.

Life reveals me to myself.
The ego points the finger outward. Awareness looks inward.
Instead of asking, βWhy did they make me angry?β ask, βWhy was anger so easy to bring out of me?β
Instead of βWhy did they reject me?β ask, βWhy does their approval have so much power over me?β
Instead of βWhy does this keep happening to me?β ask, βWhat is this experience revealing about me?β
Life constantly shows us the parts of ourselves we still need to understand.
The world becomes a mirror when you stop blaming the reflection.

βBlessed is the man who knows at what point of the house the robbers are going to enter.β Gospel of Thomas, Saying 98
The house is your mind, and the robbers are the things that know exactly how to get inside and throw you off balance. Everyone has weak points. It could be anger, lust, insecurity, needing approval, certain people, certain places, or habits you keep falling back into.
The teaching is simple. Know yourself well enough to know where you are weak before something exposes it. If you know a certain environment always leads you back into an old habit, why keep putting yourself there? If you know criticism triggers your anger, become conscious of it before someone criticises you.
A big part of self mastery is knowing where you usually lose control and preparing yourself beforehand. Know where the robber enters, and guard the door.

He that ruleth his spirit is better than he that taketh a city.β Proverbs 16:32
I think the spirit is the commanding principle within us. It is the higher will that gives direction to the mind and decides which thoughts actually become actions.
The mind can suggest a thousand different things, the body can pull us towards comfort and desire, but neither should be king.
The spirit gives the command. The mind carries it out. The body follows.
Maybe thatβs what true self mastery really is. When the highest part of you becomes the ruling authority within you.
