Who is Eligible for Zakah al Fitr? Shaykh Ibn Bāz — may Allah have mercy on him — said: “The miskīn is the poor person who does not find complete sufficiency, and the faqīr is in greater need than him. Both of them are among the categories of those eligible for zakāh, as mentioned in the statement of Allah the Exalted: ‘Indeed, ṣadaqāt (charitable offerings) are only for the poor and the needy and those employed to collect them…’ [al-Tawbah: 60]. And whoever has an income that suffices him in terms of food and drink, clothing, and housing — whether from an endowment, earnings, employment, or the like — then he is not to be considered faqīr nor miskīn, and it is not permissible to give zakāh to such a person.” Majmūʿ Fatāwā Ibn Bāz 14/266.

Ibn Taymiyyah - رحمه الله- said: “Lā ḥawla wa-lā quwwata illā billāh” “There is no power and no strength except with Allah.” It is a treasure from the treasures of Paradise; and through it, a person is empowered to do all things. Sharḥ al-ʿUmda

Juwaybir said: I said to al-Ḍaḥḥāk, “What do you know about the woman in postpartum bleeding, the menstruating woman, the traveler, and the one who is asleep—do they have a share in Laylat al-Qadr?” He said: “Yes. Everyone whose deeds are accepted by Allah will be given his share of Laylat al-Qadr.” Source: Laṭāʾif al-Maʿārif by Ibn Rajab al-Ḥanbalī.

“Humility is among the traits of the noble, while arrogance is from the characteristics of the vile. Humility brings about love, and contentment brings about comfort.” Quoted in Muqaddimat al-Majmūʿ Sharḥ al-Muhadhdhab, vol. 1, p. 13, and in al-Dhahabī, Siyar Aʿlām al-Nubalāʾ, vol. 10, p. 99.

[Don’t Be Like the Hedgehog with Your Brothers & Relatives] I read in some sources—though Allah knows best their authenticity—but this piece of information reminded me of important matters that we need in our lives. It is said that the hedgehog, known for the many spines on its body when it feels cold, seeks out its brothers and relatives from the same species and clings to them to keep one another warm. However, the spines hinder their ability to draw near each other, making the process difficult and painful. Every time they come close, their spines wound one another. And when they separate, they feel the cold again, so they resolve to draw close again. Yet every time they come near and cling to one another, they are hurt by each other’s spines, so they pull apart again—and thus, their lives go on. So I said: This condition reminded me of the relationships between some relatives. I say to you: Do not be like this hedgehog. Abandon the spines of resentment and harm among yourselves to enjoy the warmth of a united family. May Allah reunite every scattered group. And Allah is the one whose help is sought. ✍️ Written by: Shaykh Abū Muḥammad Ṣalāḥ Kantūsh al-ʿAdanī (may Allah preserve and protect him)
