Clarifying Light

Two caravans set out long ago: one upon al-Ḥaqq and the other upon al-Bāṭil. Soon, the final verdict will be delivered, and it will be revealed which caravan you chose to follow. The choice is yours.

Yesterday, on the anniversary of the Prophet’s ‎ﷺ birth (al-Mawlid al-Nabawī), Wahhābīs in northern Syria killed the virtuous Shaykh ʿAbd al-Raḥmān al-Jāʿid, the imām of the Masjid in the village of Tilālīn, north of Aleppo. And they did not stop there. They beheaded him and attempted to sever his head completely from his body! They lured him into going with them on the pretext that they needed him to officiate a marriage contract (ʿaqd nikāḥ). This is the filthy Wahhābī ideology. Al-Sayyid ImāmIbn ʿĀbidīn al-Shāmī was absolutely right when he declared al-Wahhābiyyah to be Khawārij 200 years ago. The dogs of Jahannam.

Today, we remember the blessed birth of the one ﷺ who was sent as a mercy to all the worlds! The beloved of Allāh ﷺ, whose name is mentioned with love, whose Sunnah illuminates our path, and whose heart carried love for his Ummah long before we were born. Yā Rasūl Allāh ﷺ, our hearts yearn for you, our tongues send ṣalawāt upon you, and our greatest hope is to be gathered with you at al-Kawthar. May love for the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ take root deeply within our hearts, and may that love be reflected in our words, our character, our actions, and our lives. May Allāh grant us true love for His beloved ﷺ, steadfastness upon his Sunnah, and the honour of meeting him at the Ḥawḍ al-Kawthar. Note: ‎This date is officially recognised by Islamic countries globally, and Mawlid al-Nabawī is celebrated throughout the Islamic world. It is also important to note that it is not limited to the 12th; rather, this date is emphasised due to the majority view. Despite this, the Mawlid of the beloved Prophet ﷺ is celebrated throughout the month and throughout the year, which is simply the recitation of the Qurʾān, Sīrah, Ḥadīth, praise of the beloved Prophet ﷺ, thanking Allāh ﷻ, and feeding the Ummah of the beloved Prophet ﷺ. ‎𝐍𝐨𝐧𝐞 of our scholars, nor our general Muslims, condition the celebration of the Mawlid upon a specific time, day, or place. This is just another accusation of imbeciles from Ahl al-Bidʿah. The truth is, we believe that the celebration of the 𝐌𝐚𝐰𝐥𝐢𝐝 𝐢𝐬 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐞𝐝 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐚 𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞, 𝐝𝐚𝐲, 𝐨𝐫 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐞, but is unconditional. One can celebrate the Mawlid at any time of the day, on any day of the year, and in every clean and respectable place. So it can 𝐧𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫 be a bidʿah, and this is the truth; and this truth is just like the full moon that will not be affected by the barking of dogs. ‎In matters of chronology within sīrah and tārīkh, the view that is most mashhūr and regarded as the rājiḥ qawl is followed. Many leading Ḥadīth scholars have given tarjīḥ to the view that the blessed Mawlid occurred on the 12th of Rabīʿ al-Awwal. There is a small difference of opinion, but the 𝐦𝐚𝐣𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐯𝐢𝐞𝐰 held is that it was on this day.

The most effective cure to drive away sadness is to send abundant Ṣalawāt upon the leader of the Ummah, Nabī Muḥammad ﷺ.

The noble Ṣaḥābah did not need a Mawlid in the way we speak of it today, because their lives were immersed in the presence of the Mawlūd ﷺ. Yet what we find in their lives is precisely the kind of love, reverence, and joy that we seek to express when remembering his blessed birth ﷺ, but we Will never come close to that. Whenever they were in his presence ﷺ, they would hasten to honour him. They treasured every trace of him ﷺ: they sought the water of his wuḍūʾ, preserved his blessed hair, and competed with one another for the privilege of serving him by fulfilling his needs, and much more. For them, every gathering with the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ was an occasion of love and remembrance. Every moment spent in his company was precious. His very presence among them was, in a sense, a continual Mawlid. And yet, there is something even more beautiful: For all the love they had for him ﷺ, his concern for them was even greater. He ﷺ cared deeply about their struggles, carried their worries, comforted their hearts, and grieved over their pain. They loved him ﷺ with everything they possessed, and he ﷺ loved his Ummah with a mercy beyond what they could ever comprehend. May Allāh Taʿālā fill our hearts with a sincere and profound love for the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ; a love that brings us closer to his Sunnah, increases our gratitude for his coming, and inspires us to remember, honour, and follow him ﷺ throughout our lives.

Sayyidunā Abū Qatādah narrated that the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ was asked about fasting on Mondays, to which he ﷺ replied:

𝗧𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝗼𝗻 𝘄𝗵𝗶𝗰𝗵 𝗜 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗻, and the day on which revelation was sent down to me.

[Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim, no. 1162] Here we learn that the Prophet ﷺ would single out the day of his birth with an act of extra worship: fasting. Likewise, Sunnīs commemorate his blessed birth by doing extra acts of worship and remembrance of Allāh, out of love and gratitude for the greatest blessing bestowed upon humanity: the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ.

Sayyidatunā Umm ʿAmmārah al-Anṣāriyyah (Nusaybah bint Kaʿb) states that the Beloved Prophet ﷺ once came to her, so she presented some food to him. The Beloved Prophet ﷺ said, “You eat also.” She replied, “I am fasting.” The Beloved Prophet ﷺ then said, “For as long as food is eaten in front of a fasting person, the angels make duʿāʾ of forgiveness for that fasting person.” [Al-Iḥsān bi-Tartīb Ibn Ḥibbān, vol. 5, p. 181, Ḥadīth 3421] ⬆️ Read the entire post to learn more about her.
