🔴Is iv antibiotics is indicated in cases of Sickle cell Anemia with otitis media and UTI or patient can be started on oral antibiotics? 🟢Intravenous antibiotics are indicated in sickle cell disease patients with fever, even when a specific focus of infection such as otitis media or UTI is identified. The presence of a localized infection does not eliminate the need for parenteral antibiotics in febrile patients with sickle cell disease.  Rationale for IV antibiotics in febrile SCD patients: Patients with sickle cell disease develop splenic dysfunction as early as 3 months of age, placing them at high risk for septicemia and meningitis from encapsulated bacteria, particularlyStreptococcus pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae, and Neisseria meningitidis.
