Prime Minister Starmer said they agreed on four main points: providing military aid to Ukraine, ensuring Ukraine’s participation in peace talks, deterring a future Russian invasion, and forming a “coalition of the willing” to defend Ukraine and guarantee peace. Starmer said this would involve a European peacekeeping force, including British troops, but he stressed the importance of the US providing a security “backstop.” This would make Europe even more dependent on Washington and put European troops in a dangerous situation. Starmer also said that Western military aid should continue as negotiations continue to prevent the Russian government from rejecting any compromise.
