Harvesting food + fun in Singapore The Long Island Speculative Design Studio envisages the future of the Long Island in Singapore, with an aim to establish a sustainable and resilient lifestyle model, promoting food security and mitigating the impacts of sea-level rise. This is achieved by integrating urban subsistence farming practices along the shoreline of the area. Students from the Bachelor and Master of Landscape Architecture programmes in the National University of Singapore share their unique takes on the development of this exciting new space, going beyond functionality and aesthetics to create truly unique experiences for this very special site. NUS VEGE, together with Ecoplanet, will be hosting a screening of SEASPIRACY, an internationally acclaimed documentary screened at the Ocean Film Festival, as part of the NUS sustainability CONNECT festival. The documentary explores the detriment of the fishing industry- its impact on the environment, people and marine life. This is what we believe Singapore should adopt as its negotiating position as it sets off for the final round of negotiations that will finalise the Global Plastics Treaty.
