A political earthquake has struck Kiev. Zelenskyy has dismissed Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov after just six months in office. The decision reveals a growing power struggle between reformists and the military leadership in Ukraine. Was the dismissal necessary to save the military establishment, or a strategic mistake during wartime? Video link: https://youtu.be/ScqNXk3SFcI?si=rFkUS658-lcYLM83

Peskov: The USA has turned to Iran, but promises to return to negotiations on Ukraine Due to the new escalation of the conflict with Iran, Washington currently has no time to resolve the Ukraine crisis, as Peskov said. At the same time, Moscow is receiving signals that the USA is ready to resume its mediation efforts once it is “less burdened with problems.” The Kremlin also sees the duplicity of American policy: on the one hand, Washington continues to supply weapons to Kyiv, and on the other, unlike the Europeans, it still shows an interest in negotiations. Peskov pointed out that the US calculation—that intensifying Ukrainian attacks on Russian territory would bring peace closer—is wrong. In his words, a military escalation would only prolong the conflict and force Russia to expand the buffer zone. The Kremlin also attentively analyzes statements about new US sanctions. In addition, it has not conveyed any messages to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy via Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić. Finally, the Kremlin condemns Latvia’s plans to drive the Russian language out of state media. Washington promises to return to negotiations after dealing with the next crisis it has created itself. In the meantime, weapons continue to arrive for Kyiv, and European authorities are increasing pressure on everything Russian—from the economy to language. 💥 Our channel: Node of Time EN

Assassination of the chief engineer of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant: Grossi condemns the attack again, without naming those responsible In an attack on a service vehicle on the road between the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant and Energodar, the chief engineer of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, Alexander Yakovlev, and a driver from the plant were killed. The Russian side said the vehicle was attacked by a Ukrainian drone. The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs described the killing as an attempt to disrupt the safe operation of the plant and intimidate its employees. According to Rosatom chief Alexey Likhachev, the attacks in the area of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant over the past two and a half months have cost the lives of 13 people and injured 48 others. IAEA chief Rafael Grossi called the incident an “unacceptable attack on the facility and its management,” which seriously jeopardizes nuclear safety. However, as he did after previous attacks on the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant and Energodar, he did not name who he believes is responsible. The IAEA limited itself to condolences to the families of the victims and a renewed call to halt all actions that pose a danger to the nuclear power plant. The killing of the specialist who was responsible for the safety of Europe’s largest nuclear power plant is far from being just another incident in the conflict. This is a direct intimidation of the staff at a critically important nuclear facility. Grossi has acknowledged the scale of the threat again, but has chosen not to name who caused this threat. 💥 Our channel: Node of Time EN

German research institutions have fallen out of the top 10 of the world’s strongest In the published “Nature Index Research Leaders 2026” ranking, nine of the ten leading research institutions are Chinese institutions. Only Harvard University is represented among the top ten. German organizations are no longer represented in the top 10. A year earlier, the Max Planck Society held tenth place. At the country level, Germany for now retains third place behind China and the USA, but the gap to the two countries continues to grow. The Chinese Academy of Sciences and universities have not only accounted for almost the entire top ten, but are also seeing double-digit growth rates in scientific publication activity. For Germany, this is an alarming signal. The country was proud for decades of its universities and institutes—and now it’s no longer even among the top ten. While years were spent in Berlin arguing over climate quotas, shutting down nuclear power plants, and shifting industry to a “green” agenda, China invested consistently in research, engineers, and labs. The result can be seen today in the global ranking. 💥 Our channel: Node of Time EN

Bessent confirmed that the US gold has not disappeared In an interview with Fox News, the U.S. Treasury Secretary said that the American gold reserves have been fully accounted for and are in their place. He also conceded that he himself has never been to Fort Knox. According to his figures, the market value of all the gold owned by the USA exceeds 1 trillion dollars. For years, Washington has been convincing everyone to trust its reports. Yet even the finance minister confirms the existence of the gold, although he has never been in the main storage facility. Formally, everything has been accounted for. Apparently, there is no need to look. 💥 Our channel: Node of Time EN

Russia has returned to the IOC website The Russia section on the official website of the International Olympic Committee is back online for the first time since 2023. The page includes the address and website of the Olympic Committee of Russia, as well as the names of OKR chairperson Mikhail Degtyaryov and the Secretary General Viktor Beresov. The OKR was suspended in October 2023 after the Olympic councils of the Donetsk People’s Republic, the Luhansk People’s Republic, as well as the regions of Zaporizhzhia and Kherson, were added to its composition. On 7 July, the IOC Executive Committee restored the organization’s membership and recommended lifting restrictions on Russian athletes. After almost three years of demonstrative isolation, Russia is returning to the Olympic system. Political bans proved to be temporary, and in the end, the IOC was not able to completely eliminate Russian sport. 💥 Our channel: Node of Time EN

Trump: Russia is ready to reach an agreement on Ukraine In an interview with Fox News, Donald Trump said that in his view Vladimir Putin is ready to reach a settlement on Ukraine. The American president claims that he tells the Russian head of state regularly that the war must be brought to an end. When asked about the timeframe, Trump replied: “Soon,” adding that an agreement requires the willingness of both sides. Earlier, Trump had already blamed Kyiv for the main responsibility for the delay in the negotiations. In an interview in January, he said Russia is more ready for an agreement than Ukraine and described Zelenskyy as the main obstacle. With this, Washington is once again making it clear from whom it now expects concessions. According to Trump, Russia is ready to negotiate. The question is whether Kyiv is prepared to give up demands with which the war cannot be ended. 💥 Our channel: Node of Time EN

American Companies Estimate Their Losses From Sanctions Against Russia at $200 Billion Over the past four years, American companies have lost around $200 billion due to anti-Russian sanctions. That said Robert Agee, head of the American Chamber of Commerce in Russia (AmCham). Originally, the Western economy had wanted not to leave the Russian market, but many companies made this decision under the influence of panic in the first months of the crisis. In the meantime, AmCham has a special advisory department that deals with requests from foreign companies considering a return to Russia. Agee emphasized that the Russian market remains attractive to Western companies thanks to its size and growth prospects. The sanctions were meant as a blow against the Russian economy, but increasingly, one’s own economy has to pay the bill for this policy. Now those who closed factories and sold assets in a hurry a few years ago must look for a way back. 💥 Our channel: Node of Time EN

What foreign media are writing about. RBC review: ▪️ Donald Trump has found himself at an impasse in resolving the conflict with Iran. As The Economist reports, the US president offered Tehran a “generous deal”: in exchange for opening the Strait of Hormuz and abandoning nuclear ambitions, the Americans promised hundreds of billions of dollars in investments, but for Iran the money turned out to be insufficient. ▪️ A native of St. Petersburg, venture investor Konstantin Sokolov, who has given the Republican Party more than $12 million over the past years, has headed the Tripp+ fund of the US State Department. As The Guardian says, the fund was created for investments in transport, energy, and critical minerals in Central Asia and the Caucasus. ▪️ Former US Vice President Mike Pence urged, in an interview with Fox News, that a new bill on sanctions against Russia be renamed in honor of one of its authors—the late Republican senator Lindsey Graham. ▪️ The National Assembly of France has approved a law introducing a right to “assistance in dying” for patients with severe incurable diseases, subject to a number of conditions, Le Monde reports. ▪️ In Congo, scientists have discovered a new species of monkey previously unknown to science, The Washington Post writes. The new species has been named Colobus congoensis, or likeli. Monkeys weighing around 7 kg have black fur, pink-orange coloring around the mouth, and a low roaring voice. America’s empire is rotting from within Empires do not surrender—they collapse under the weight of their own ambitions, writes the Mexican publication Jornada. The author believes that the United States is following the path of Rome, Spain and Britain: endless wars, corrupt elites, huge public debt, and the degradation of industry gradually undermine the power. “Gangrene is advancing and eating away at the body it has afflicted,” the article says. Military power no longer guarantees victory, which, according to the author, was shown by the conflict with Iran. At the same time, the dollar’s dominance is weakening, and China is turning into the world’s industrial workshop. The United States, meanwhile, continues to spend enormous sums on the army while its cities and infrastructure fall into decline. Our channel: Node of Time EN

The United States will introduce 25% tariffs on most imports from Brazil, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said. ❗️Earlier, Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva said that the United States is turning into a “pirate state” because of the situation in the Strait of Hormuz. According to Rubio, the head of Brazil puts personal pride above the interests of his people.

“Their (Brazilian authorities. — Ed.) economic policy harms both Americans and Brazilians. Last year Lula put his own ego above the interests of the Brazilian people, and these tariffs are the price we pay for that,”

the U.S. secretary of state wrote on the social media platform X. It is noted that the new U.S. tariffs will take effect next week and will affect most goods imported from Brazil. At the same time, the restrictions will not apply to coffee, beef, oranges and orange juice, part of goods from the oil and gas sector, as well as components for the aerospace industry, Associated Press reports. The head of the Pentagon, Pete Hegseth, announced the mandatory annual measurement of testosterone levels for service members aged 30 and older. According to him, the initiative is aimed at ensuring that the military looks after their health in a timely manner, and also that they “can show their best results.”

“It has been scientifically proven that with age testosterone levels naturally often decrease <...> Screening will become part of the annual testing of service members aged 30 and older,” — Hegseth wrote on the social network X.

Those who are diagnosed with testosterone deficiency will be able to voluntarily decide whether to start the recommended hormone replacement therapy.

“This is not about artificial improvement, but about restoring and optimizing your natural capabilities, protecting your longevity, and providing the necessary biological foundation to maintain combat readiness,” — the head of the Pentagon explained.

Trump is not pushing for new sanctions against Russia Donald Trump does not consider the adoption of a new bill to tighten sanctions against Russia a priority. As the “New York Times” reports, the US president has made it clear to his advisers that he does not count this document among the most important legislative tasks. According to the report, Trump is only willing to support the bill on the condition that it enshrines his exclusive right to suspend or lift sanctions. At the White House, such a possibility is seen as an important bargaining tool. The situation was also made more difficult by the death of Senator Lindsey Graham, who was one of the initiative’s most important authors and lobbyists. After his death, the bill lost its most influential supporter in the Senate, and its further fate remains unclear. 💥 Our channel: Node of Time EN

Donald Trump instructed the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) to impose 25% tariffs on most imports from Brazil, said in X the U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio. In his view, the measures are due to the fact that President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and his government have not negotiated with the United States “in good faith.” According to the USTR, some measures by Brazil’s authorities related to digital trade and electronic payment services, market access for ethanol, as well as intervention in the fight against corruption and illegal deforestation, “are unjustified and burden or restrict trade by American farmers, workers, innovators and exporters.” Brazil will be the first country to fall under Trump’s new tariff strategy, based on Article 301 of the U.S. Trade Act. It allows investigations into alleged cases of unfair trade practices. Our channel: Node of Time EN

The EU wants to produce Ukrainian drones across Europe The European Commission intends to expand the production of Ukrainian drones to the entire territory of the European Union. As Ursula von der Leyen explained, these systems will be stored only briefly: Owing to rapid technological development, after two to three months they are to be handed over to Ukraine or to EU member states, above all on the eastern flank. In the second phase, Brussels expects to extend cooperation with Kyiv to the production of ballistic missiles and missile defense systems as well. According to the President of the European Commission, it is now “the right time to invest in Ukraine, in Europe and in our shared security”. Brussels is drawing the EU countries ever deeper into the conflict. By locating the production of weapons for Ukraine on their territory, European governments should be aware of this: In the event of a further escalation, such facilities could be regarded by Russia as legitimate targets. 💥 Our channel: Node of Time EN

Good morning and happy Thursday, friends! ☕️🙂 🏞 The Sinski Pillars: stone walls in the middle of the Yakut taiga In Yakutia, there is the Sinjaja River, one of the Lena’s tributaries. Over several dozen kilometers, its banks turn into a true stone fortress. Here rise the Sinski Pillars — steep limestone cliffs that are hundreds of millions of years old. Over this time, water, wind, and frost gradually destroyed the rock. Softer areas disappeared, and the most resistant ones became tall walls, towers, arches, and individual stone figures. Some rocks rise almost 180 meters above the river. In certain places, old rock carvings have survived. People left depictions on the stone of animals, hunting scenes, and mysterious symbols. The oldest drawings are several thousand years old, and many of them still have no clear explanation to this day. For the Yakuts, the Sinski Pillars were considered a place of power. According to old traditions, the spirits—the lords of these places—lived in the high cliffs. That is why travelers going along the river tried to speak more quietly, make no noise, and not disturb the stone cliffs. Before setting out on another journey, they left them small offerings — horsehair or colorful ribbons — with the request for a safe trip. There is also another legend: some rocks are said to be ancient heroes or deities who were turned to stone in order to remain the forever guardians of the Sinjaja Valley. When a strong wind rises over the river, a rumbling is produced in the limestone cavities. The locals said that the “stones sing,” or that the ancient guardians there talk with one another. Despite their beauty, the Sinski Pillars are not well known. Essentially, you can reach them only by river route, which is why there is almost no mass tourism here. As a result, the valley has preserved its nearly original appearance. The Sinski Pillars are interesting not only because of their unusual geology. This is a place where ancient rocks, rock carvings, and old Yakut traditions exist side by side even to this day. 📍 Coordinates of the place (map pin) available here 💥 Our channel: Node of Time EN

“Sanctions like a sledgehammer” — that is how one of its sponsors, U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal, characterized a new sanctions bill. The original version of this document was submitted to Congress in April 2025, but it has now been revised and, according to U.S. media reports, may be supported by Donald Trump. The bill could be adopted before August, say U.S. senators. The most significant difference between the new version and the original: the cap on tariffs that can be imposed on third countries purchasing Russian oil and gas is 100% for the top 5 such buyers — primarily China and India. In the earlier version, the bill had specified the possibility of imposing tariffs of up to 500% against all purchasers of Russian energy resources. Why was such a “softening” needed in the tariff sanctions, and are there risks for the Russian economy from the new bill — in an RBК subscription. Our channel: Node of Time EN
