Almost all jailbreaks from 2023โ2024 work on it, but even beyond that, using simple prompt tricks one can get it to answer virtually any question.
Moreover, the model is open-source, so if you have a particularly sensitive question, it's better to first download the model onto your computer and use it locally.
Also, people asked how to run the model locally on a computer or private server. I was going to just reply directly, but decided to write a post in case others are interested.
Here is DeepSeekโs GitHub page. Browse through it, pick the model that suits you, then follow the link to the Hugging Face page where the model weights are hosted. For example, hereโs a link to R1, which is a distillation of LLaMA with 8 billion parameters.
Then you clone the repository, which downloads the model weights locally.
To install it, follow the instructions in the README โ the usual procedure.
This gives you the most complete and low-level access to the model possible. Of course, it also requires more technical expertise, since installation may involve some difficulties.
I havenโt personally installed DeepSeek yet, but I did install LLaMA 3.1 locally before โ it took some effort and didnโt run right away.
There is also a simpler and higher-level method:
You install Ollama, and from within the program you can select a model.
Pros: the app downloads the weights and launches everything automatically.
Cons: less control over the model.
So itโs not suitable for in-depth research. But if you just want anonymity and private conversations โ thatโs more than enough.
