Life without a thyroid gland presents significant metabolic challenges as  the  thyroid  regulates the temperature, energy production, and cellular function. Very serious stuff, unfortunately conventional medicine typically suggests lifelong synthetic thyroid hormone replacement (Thyroxine, levothyroxine, Synthroid or whatever ). Many patients find synthetic hormones inadequate, and often leaving them in perpetual fatigue, weight gain, cold intolerance, and brain fog. From a natural health perspective, the mainstream approach is incomplete because it fails to address the root causes that may have necessitated thyroid removal. This could be  autoimmune attack (Hashimoto’s thyroiditis), iodine deficiency, environmental toxicity, or radiation exposure. Living without a thyroid requires  a major natural strategy focusing on supporting the body’s remaining endocrine pathways. Start with optimizing cellular metabolism through nutrition, lifestyle  and detoxification. The thyroid cannot be renewed so we need  to ensure that the  synthetic or bioidentical thyroid hormone (T4 and T3) is utilized with maximum efficiency at the cellular level.   Selenium, tyrosine, zinc, are critical cofactors for efficient thyroid hormone conversion and receptor sensitivity. While we are at it we must also  support the adrenal glands, this is not negotiable because the  adrenal fatigue can block thyroid hormone receptors, even optimal  medication can turn out  ineffective. Now we come to Detox and this is also an essential step. Endocrine-disrupting chemicals are the cause for many people to lose their thyroid. Pesticides, bromine and fluorine and let's not forget  heavy metals help to  mimic or block iodine uptake. It is Vital to have a  structured detox protocol, this can involve infrared sauna, bentonite clay,  iodine supplementation and can help clear toxins and this will help to  improve energy. When it comes to food it is absolutely important to consume a nutrient-dense, anti-inflammatory diet, lots of organic vegetables, grass-fed meats, and healthy fats like coconut oil, olive oil, or  ghee, they  will provide  mitochondrial health and stable blood sugar, which are critical when the thyroid’s  is no longer. This is important for individuals living without a thyroid, they must  guard against the corrupt influence of the medical establishment, the one that profits from lifelong dependency on synthetic drugs and suppresses natural alternatives.  Its unfortunate some  endocrinologists rarely educate patients on the value of T3 conversion and adrenal support. Also there is very little  education on dangers of statin drugs that deplete CoQ10 and worsen mitochondrial dysfunction. Be educated as true healing requires self-education through  alternative platforms. Information on Bioidentical hormones, glandular therapy, and herbal adaptogens eg   ashwagandha and rhodiola is freely available. Take full personal responsibility for one's own  health, monitoring their own basal temperature, pulse, and symptoms, one can achieve a high quality of life that unfortunately  mainstream medicine doesn't believe is  possible. Many blessings Hans the Herbalist 💕
