Automattic Inc., the company behind WordPress.com, has acquired the messaging app Beeper.
Beeper is known for creating a workaround that allowed iMessage to function on Android devices, which led to a dispute with Apple Inc.
The acquisition includes Beeper’s 27 employees and its co-founder, Eric Migicovsky, who will now serve as Automattic’s head of messaging. The deal, valued at $125 million, aims to enhance Automattic’s online messaging capabilities.
Beeper, which integrates various messaging services into one inbox, had about 100,000 users and was in beta since 2021. Although Automattic does not plan to revive the iMessage workaround, Beeper will continue as a universal chat app.

Chipolo has introduced two new trackers, the Chipolo One Point and Chipolo Card Point, which integrate with 🏢 Google’s Find My Device network, offering Android users a counterpart to Apple’s AirTag.
These trackers help locate personal items like keys🔑and wallets 👛 through the network of Android devices. The One Point features a replaceable battery with a 12-month lifespan, while the Card Point offers a two-year battery life and a recycling program. Both are splashproof with IPX5 rating and have built-in ringers for easy location. The products will be available for purchase on Chipolo’s website starting May 27 and will hit other retailers in July.
