📱 There’s a troubling bug in iOS 17.5 that causes old photos, which were previously deleted (in some cases, years ago), to reappear in users’ photo libraries. After updating their iPhones, some users were shocked to find old NSFW photos that they had deleted in 2021 suddenly showing up as recently uploaded to iCloud. Other users have reported similar experiences, with photos from different times reappearing even though they had been deleted. The cause of this phenomenon remains unclear, but it’s unlikely to be related to recently deleted photos, as Apple’s Photos app retains deleted items for only 30 days. Possible causes include indexing bugs, photo library corruption, or syncing issues between local devices and iCloud Photos. This issue has raised concerns about data privacy and storage practices, as it suggests that “deleted” photos may not truly be permanently removed from Apple’s servers. Hopefully, Apple will address this bug promptly and provide a fix for affected users. 🔗 Source

Whitney Wolfe Herd, the founder of Bumble 📱, envisions a dating future reminiscent of an episode from “Black Mirror.” In an interview with Bloomberg, she suggests that AI might soon engage in dating other AI entities to filter out potential matches for humans. This intriguing concept raises questions about the intersection of artificial intelligence, relationships, and matchmaking, hinting at a future where algorithms play matchmaker for both humans and their digital counterparts1. Meanwhile, the proliferation of generative AI, which produces synthetic content, poses its own challenges. Researchers have coined the term “Model Autophagy Disorder” (MAD) to describe the phenomenon where AI models trained on synthetic data start producing increasingly mangled and subpar outputs. As generative AI becomes more ubiquitous, its reliance on human-made data could potentially lead to unexpected consequences. 🔗 Source

📱 WhatsApp, globally rollout of passkey support for all 📱 iOS users. This feature eliminates the need for SMS one-time passcodes⏰ and allows users to log into their accounts using biometric authentication like Face ID or Touch ID, a PIN, or a physical security key. This enhances security by making it harder for unauthorized users to access accounts remotely, as they would also need physical access to the phone. Users can enable passkey verification by navigating to the “Account” options in their app settings and clicking on the new “Passkeys” button.
