🪟 Support for Windows 10 will end in October 2025. After October 14, 2025, Microsoft will no longer provide security updates or technical support for Windows 10. Your Windows 10 PC will still work, but it’s recommended to move to Windows 11.
| 2 | 📱 There’s a troubling bug in iOS 17.5 that causes old photos, which were previously deleted (in some cases, years ago), to reappear in users’ photo libraries. After updating their iPhones, some users were shocked to find old NSFW photos that they had deleted in 2021 suddenly showing up as recently uploaded to iCloud. Other users have reported similar experiences, with photos from different times reappearing even though they had been deleted. The cause of this phenomenon remains unclear, but it’s unlikely to be related to recently deleted photos, as Apple’s Photos app retains deleted items for only 30 days. Possible causes include indexing bugs, photo library corruption, or syncing issues between local devices and iCloud Photos. This issue has raised concerns about data privacy and storage practices, as it suggests that “deleted” photos may not truly be permanently removed from Apple’s servers. Hopefully, Apple will address this bug promptly and provide a fix for affected users.

| 3 | Whitney Wolfe Herd, the founder of Bumble 📱, envisions a dating future reminiscent of an episode from “Black Mirror.” In an interview with Bloomberg, she suggests that AI might soon engage in dating other AI entities to filter out potential matches for humans. This intriguing concept raises questions about the intersection of artificial intelligence, relationships, and matchmaking, hinting at a future where algorithms play matchmaker for both humans and their digital counterparts1. Meanwhile, the proliferation of generative AI, which produces synthetic content, poses its own challenges. Researchers have coined the term “Model Autophagy Disorder” (MAD) to describe the phenomenon where AI models trained on synthetic data start producing increasingly mangled and subpar outputs. As generative AI becomes more ubiquitous, its reliance on human-made data could potentially lead to unexpected consequences.

| 8 | 📱 WhatsApp, globally rollout of passkey support for all 📱 iOS users. This feature eliminates the need for SMS one-time passcodes⏰ and allows users to log into their accounts using biometric authentication like Face ID or Touch ID, a PIN, or a physical security key.
This enhances security by making it harder for unauthorized users to access accounts remotely, as they would also need physical access to the phone. Users can enable passkey verification by navigating to the “Account” options in their app settings and clicking on the new “Passkeys” button. | 116 |

| 13 | WhatsApp 💬 is reportedly developing a new feature for Android, named “Favourites” ⭐️ , which will allow users to add, reorder, or remove contacts in a specific order. This feature, spotted in the latest beta version of WhatsApp for Android, is expected to enable users to set up a speed dial of contacts for easier accessibility1 The feature is currently not visible to beta testers. The Favourites feature is expected to be integrated within the Settings menu. Users will likely be able to add their favourite contacts to create a speed-dial-like interface from where they can quickly message those they value the most. However, the feature might be redundant to many users as it is buried under two different screens (home screen > Settings > Favourites), which would make using it cumbersome. | 8 |

| 18 | 🔎 Google is gearing up to unveil its highly anticipated mobile operating system, 🤖 Android 15, at the upcoming Google I/O 2024 event1. One of the standout features rumored to be included in Android 15 is support for a new type of wireless charging technology. Reports suggest that Google may introduce NFC-based wireless charging, eliminating the need for traditional chargers to power up smartphones. The NFC wireless charging solution relies on Near Field Communication (NFC) technology, enabling two devices to charge wirelessly when placed within a maximum distance of 2 centimeters from each other.
Insights from the beta version 1 of Android 15, which has been recently rolled out, hint at the inclusion of NFC charging capabilities. To enable NFC wireless charging, a smartphone needs a small antenna which will facilitate power transfer. Unlike traditional wireless charging that necessitates physical contact between devices, NFC WLC will offer an air charging solution, that allows one to charge without the direct attachment. The introduction of NFC-based wireless charging in the new Android 15 will open up new possibilities for smartphone manufacturers to incorporate this feature into their devices. With the potential to revolutionize the charging experience, smartphones equipped with NFC WLC technology are poised to offer users greater convenience and flexibility in powering their devices.
