🌍 World Ozone Day — 16 September
World Ozone Day is observed every year on 16 September to raise awareness about protecting the ozone layer. It commemorates the signing of the Montreal Protocol (1987).
🟦 Ozone Layer
🍀Atmospheric layer: Stratosphere
🍀Altitude: roughly 15–35 km above Earth
Ozone (O₃) is concentrated mainly in the stratosphere.
🍀Main function: absorbs harmful ultraviolet (UV) radiation, especially UV-B and UV-C.
🌴 Which radiation does ozone deflect/absorb?
UV radiation — particularly UV-B and UV-C.
📜 Important conventions/protocols
☘️1. Vienna Convention — 1985
International framework for protection of the ozone layer.
Focused on cooperation, research, monitoring and information exchange.
☘️2. Montreal Protocol — 1987 ⭐
Controls/phases out ozone-depleting substances (ODS).
Came into force: 1989
One of the most important environmental agreements.
☘️3. Kigali Amendment — 2016 ⭐
Amendment to the Montreal Protocol.
Targets HFCs (hydrofluorocarbons) because of their high global-warming potential.
Important distinction: HFCs do not significantly deplete ozone, but they are powerful greenhouse gases.

Introductory session for SSB
As most of you chose 8 pm . We'll conduct 8 pm as our timing for sessions. So meet you all at 8 pm .

3. Be disciplined and try to be a listener not a lecturer .

Will not allow addition of people in future sessions. People who directly come to mid session or after 5 6 days randomly , will not be permitted to join as it is not possible to teach basics again and waste other cadets time who are in the meeting.
