UV radiation — particularly UV-B and UV-C. 📜 Important conventions/protocols ☘️1. Vienna Convention — 1985 International framework for protection of the ozone layer. Focused on cooperation, research, monitoring and information exchange. ☘️2. Montreal Protocol — 1987 ⭐ Controls/phases out ozone-depleting substances (ODS). Came into force: 1989 One of the most important environmental agreements. ☘️3. Kigali Amendment — 2016 ⭐ Amendment to the Montreal Protocol. Targets HFCs (hydrofluorocarbons) because of their high global-warming potential. Important distinction: HFCs do not significantly deplete ozone, but they are powerful greenhouse gases.
