Baghdad is my reading club. Didn't really start it for the sake of something. Purely out of passion with genuine interest. I had procrastination issues, so I figured I'd start a strict reading challenge and lead discussions. Recently, due to my busy schedule, I had to delegate all the managing stuff to one of my students. Our current read is by no other than Nietzsche. What was that? Happy Monday?

Malcolm Gladwell, an author of popular non-fiction books, claims it is the specificity that makes everything interesting.  Let's walk through a basic example! You can use the adjective "strong" to describe your coffee: 

The strong coffee energized my body, giving a morning boost.

In this case, the combination of the adjective "strong" and the noun "coffee" doesn't give much imagery. Strong is a lazy word. It limits the sentence to only telling. It doesn't let readers imagine.  Let's add a different word to add some specificity:

The Starbucks coffee energized my body, giving me a morning boost I very much needed. 

Now, here, you picture a square green building. You can probably imagine the author walking into a coffee shop with a familiar logo and sipping their cappuccino.  But, we can do more. We can add multiple descriptors to make our sentence evern more specific: 

The 7 am cappuccino at a nearby Starbucks fueled up my morning. 

We can surely push further, but you should know the balance. But now you know the framework. Next time, instead of using the typical bromidic descriptors, let the readers imagine your experience firsthand.  For more of such tips, go through "The Elements of Style" by William Strunk. #agora Our journey with knowledge starts in kindergarten. We are introduced to the letters of the alphabet. Then 10-12 years of school. Four years at college. And sometimes two more years of graduate education. At a glance, an average person spends too much time trying to get educated. Isn’t it too much? But the right question is different: how much of that education is education? We spend a lot of time attempting to follow our formalities. Pretending to get educated doesn’t equal being educated.  In reality, the time spent on actual enlightenment and intellectual progress is very little, amid all that paperwork, course sign-ups, doomscrolling during a boring lecture, and so on.  And back in January of this year, after a troubling college admissions season, I realized what my bureaucratic approach to education had cost me: time. Then it hit me: what if we could strip away the bureaucratic padding and focus purely on intellectual growth? So, that was how Agora was founded: to offer a concentrated intellectual experience. We take post-SAT students and expose them to appropriate literature, scientific texts, pop culture, and beyond. The sole aim? Making students academically self-aware and intellectually mature, while granting them their agency in the admissions journey that awaits them.  And in this process, we employ writing. For Writing is Thinking amplified. It forces you to wrestle with ideas until they become clear.   This is why our curriculum is built around rigorous writing practice—because clear writing produces clear thinking. I have been developing Agora for over 7 months so far. And the process itself brought valuable insights to share. 🖋 A Pressing Issue in College Admissions All students, as soon as they get done with their SATs, plunge themselves into the admissions ocean. They start taking courses, programs, and services. As promised, these programs offer admissions help. But there is another immediate factor many seem to overlook. In most admissions services, students work only for the personal statement. And not for their comprehensive knowledge in their relevent majors. In most cases, this will end up in the essays being shallow, the arguments weak, and the application feeling forced. Met up with @kyspeech Finally came from Fergana

Leaving the SATashkent January fourteenth, 2024. I approached the HR department at SATashkent seeking a job as an SAT mentor. The sole aim? Reaching financial stability. The training period lasted two weeks. And at the beginning of February, I was teaching my first group, marking the start of a 1.5-year journey. During my time as a teacher, I also developed my public speaking skills. Having to put myself in the center of attention in a room full of 20 heads put me far from my comfort bubble. Improvisation, confidence, and grit in public speaking all came from this single experience. But my work at SATashkent was beyond just acquiring a few new skills. I, somewhere along the way from running late to my classes to after-hours chats with my colleagues, tasted bits of the corporate culture. Starting my Mondays “happy” or my coffee taste going from iced lattes to strong espressos were all small signs that I was growing into a more professional version of myself. This journey ended back in May, however. There is a point in each person’s life where they feel they should focus on something greater, something that brings even greater value. While being a mentor is one of the most “value-generating” jobs out there, I knew I could do more. From January 2025, I started working on a small yet ambitious project. We called it Agora. It was initially a mini writing curriculum that I dedicated my wee hours to. But the project scaled up quickly. And it got to a certain point that I had to quit my part-time at SATashkent and go full-time with Agora. Thanks to SATashkent’s partnership, we are progressing rapidly. (But more about Agora in later posts). Find your passion, they said. Turns out my passion found me—it was hiding behind a stack of lesson plans and a particularly stubborn group of teenagers. @husan_thinking

Been using Perplexity's Comet Browser. And I am utterly astonished. There is a lot to work on. But it is how a broswer should be. comet.perplexity.ai

One of past my students from satashkent, Ozodbek, is running his CS community project. They post on various networking events, internship opportunities, and job positions. In short, a good direction toward creating a CS culture, or at the very least, strengthening the current one. One feature I particularly liked is how they carry our online webinars hosting speakers of wide expertise, from startup-founders to cs gurus. They will soon host a live-chat with Aydos.
