| 7 |  +1After the unexpected death of Tsar Alexander III, Tsar Nicholas II and Empress Alexandra had to stay in the Anichkov Palace where Empress Marie resided (Nicholas' mother). They acquired a few rooms. They didn't have a dining room so they ate with Empress Marie. They also lacked a reception room so when the Emperor received guests, Alexandra would withdraw to the bedroom. This was only temporary and shortly before moving to their proper Alexander Palace.
The Emperor expresses his relief in a letter to his mother in 1895-
