After the murder of Tsar Nicholas II, his Cossack bodyguard- Timofey Yaschik, chose to continue his duty to the Imperial Family and became bodyguard to Maria Feodorovna (Nicholas' mother). In 1919 Timofey's wife was shot by bolsheviks, and the former Empress Maria had to flee the country that was being taken over by bolshevism. She returned to her native Denmark with Timofey, who served until her death in 1928.

Book review: "A Few Years Before the Catastrophe" by Sofia Ivanovna Tyutcheva The short memoirs of one of the nannies to the royal children. She was at the Imperial court for 5 years (1907-1912). In these memoirs Sofia shares instances of the children's life and Tsar Nicholas II's kind humor with people. Sofia seemed a bit strict and didn't like Empress Alexandra much. Probably the most significant historical note in this book is her witness of Stolypin's assassination in 1911, whom she was present with Nicholas, Olga and Tatiana.
