| 5 | During the festival, @tanja.sova and @mariia_vorotilina invite you to a collective reading of handmade textile zines documenting previous gatherings in Berlin, shared food practices, personal stories, and lived experiences. Grounded in the belief that solidarity must move beyond words, we organize a solidarity auction of one textile zine at the end of reading. Funds raised will directly support mutual aid efforts in Ukraine.
During the second part of the event, activists from the Ukrainian grassroots initiatives Street Aid Daily @street.aid.daily and Solidarity Kitchen @idahordiichuk will share stories from their work on the ground and invite everyone into collective cooking. Through reflections on wartime food infrastructures, forced displacement, and homelessness, they will speak about organizing support for vulnerable groups. Cooking with Mama festival edition at @kosmoschemnitz - join us on August 29 in Chemnitz!
Our series of communal gatherings in Berlin and beyond weave together personal and collective hi/stories often overlooked or erased. Through food practices and storytelling from Eastern Europe, the Caucasus, Northern and Central Asia, the gatherings create space to learn about the de/colonial significance of food and the ancestral and local knowledges carried by people whose lives have been shaped by Russian and other colonial and imperial violence - legacies that continue in Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine and other forms of domination across the regions. Together, we engage with experiences of loss, while nurturing care and solidarity. The gatherings pay homage to the long-standing initiative Cooking with Mama by Kurdish artist @hiwakhiwa

The event will create a space for dialogue between representatives of politics, academia, and civil society, focusing on cultural preservation, identity, current challenges, and the future of Indigenous communities.

The evening will feature live Crimean music performed by a quartet of traditional folk instruments, an exhibition of Crimean landscapes by artist Diana, a traditional Crimean Coffee Ceremony recognized as an element of Ukraine’s Intangible Cultural Heritage, and two panel discussions in English and German.

| 14 | Queer Ukrainian lives depend on international support and solidarity. Russian military aggression affects all people of Ukraine, including the queer community. And Russian occupation leads to torture, sexual violence, and brutal oppression – given that any queer existence is strictly outlawed in Russia, queer Ukrainian existence is in particular danger.
Despite the war, Ukrainians go on the streets to demonstrate against discriminatory and unjust government measures that disable queer justice. Only recently, the draft law for the highly problematic new civil code has led to mass demonstrations across the country. The civil code governs different relations such as property rights, but also personal relations. While officials argued that changing the 2003 version would bring Ukraine closer to progressive democratic values, it actually does the opposite as proposed changes would impact queer rights and international human rights negatively.
While the civil society actively demands changes, queer people are still constantly faced with violence from the far-right and same-sex marriage still has not been legalised. It is our duty to amplify Queer Ukrainian voices here in Germany.

This Friday, 24.07.2026 from 7pm at Elele, Hobrechtstr 55 , Collective Sabr offers a Tatreez workshop fundraiser.
Parallel to a Grieving Doves Name-Writing session, Sabr Collective will teach you how to stitch an olive tree bookmark and give you a brief overview of the history of Palestinian tatreez.
The workshop is on donation basis, with a recommendation of 10€ per person. All funds will go to families in Gaza. Their last workshop with the Grieving Doves was a lot of fun and together we were able to collect many donations for our friends and family, which we are very greatful for,.
