COR WEEKLY PRAYER POINTERS | 22-27 JUNE 2026
Pray for the World: Iran-US War
Thank God for the interim U.S.–Iran agreement for a cessation of direct U.S.–Iran military operations with a 60-day negotiation period to reach a permanent settlement. Nevertheless, tensions have shifted to Lebanon where conflict between Hezbollah and Israel continues. Iran has indicated that continued Israeli military operations could jeopardize the diplomatic process. Pray for wisdom and restraint for leaders in Washington, Tehran, Jerusalem, and Beirut that the 60-day negotiation process would lead to a durable peace rather than merely a pause in fighting; for protection of civilians in Lebanon, Israel, Iran, and surrounding nations and for humanitarian needs created by months of conflict to be addressed. Pray also for Christians and churches across the region to be witnesses of reconciliation and hope.
Pray For Singapore: Spiritual Climate
Singapore remains economically successful, safe, and highly educated. Yet many Christians face the same challenge: increasing busyness, distraction, and difficulty sustaining spiritual attentiveness. The danger for Singapore is not persecution but preoccupation. We are connected to everything and attentive to nothing. Pray for deeper spiritual hunger, for Christians to rediscover attentiveness to God amid constant distraction and for churches to form disciples rather than merely run programmes.
Pray for the Church: Church of the Ascension (COA)
Uplift Vicar Revd Ian Chew and his team in prayer: ask God for refreshment and strength for the ministry. Pray for the chaplaincy work in Little Seed Preschool (Ascension), St Andrew’s School (Junior) and St Andrew’s Nursing Home (Aljunied). Ask God for resources and provision for the work in the harvest field.
Pray for Chapel of the Resurrection – Father’s Heart
Pray for the fathers in our midst: that as they continue to abide daily in our Father’s love, they may find strength and joy in loving their children and their families. Pray that as our fathers labour hard to provide for the family materially, they will also be spiritual models for their children and be men after God’s own heart.
Pray for the Sick:
Pray for COR members who are unwell physically, mentally or emotionally. Pray in particular for Stella Soon, Gong Wooi Mau, Khoo Poh Tay, Janet Lee, Steven Lee, Edwin Low, John Suan, and Khoo Hwa Chiang. Ask God for healing and restoration, to bring good out of their suffering. Uphold the caregivers in prayer, to be refreshed spiritually, physically and emotionally.
WEEKLY DEVOTION: 22 JUNE 2026 | Jesus Changed Circumstances For Them, He Can Change Circumstances For You Too.
Have you noticed the far-reaching glorious reality in the opening verse of Psalm 23? King David wrote: “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want”. David testifies that though there were episodes in his life where he walked through lack, the Lord did not let him remain in lack. At the Lord’s time, He led David from lack into rich blessings. The Lord did so simply because He cared for David, as a good shepherd cares for his sheep.
God’s awesome loving care did not wane even a millennium later and was experienced by Jesus’ disciples. The Bible records two occasions of Jesus caring for His disciples with the miraculous catch of fish. The first, in Luke 5: 1-12, took place during the disciples’ early days with Jesus. The second, in John 21: 1-14, took place when Jesus had resurrected and showed His disciples for the third time that He is alive. The distinctions between the two miraculous catches had rich meanings and deep implications for their mission and ministry. Yet at their core, the miraculous catches are about the reality of Jesus’ love and care for His disciples in their personal needs and vulnerabilities.
Perhaps others would not give a second thought about the disciples having fished all night but catching nothing. Perhaps others might feel that was just part and parcel of life. However, for the disciples who fished all night, catching nothing is deeply frustrating. Their sense of failure and their loss of opportunity for income were real and consequential, even decimating.
Perhaps you know of friends and loved ones who have sent out application after application, made enquiry after enquiry, attempted nurturing relationship time and again, and, in other areas too, their efforts have yielded no success.
May we be encouraged that it was not the disciples who mentioned their empty catch to Jesus first. Perhaps they did not realise how much they mattered to Jesus. Perhaps they did not think they were deserving of Jesus going to the extent of a miracle for their personal needs. Peter’s words in Luke 5:8 seemed to hint at that: “… go away from me Lord, I am a sinful man”. Yet, Jesus saw them in their situations and reached out to them, as a good shepherd reaches out to his flock. The care that Jesus then gave to His disciples had been the same care that King David testified in Psalm 23:1. It is the same care that Jesus wants to give to His people today, including you and your loved ones, as your Shepherd.
Let us remember, however, that Jesus’ ways would not always square with our rationale. Jesus asked His disciples to do what they had already done earlier, which had yielded no catch. However, Jesus’ word can change circumstances so that the same actions can now have fruition. Jesus’ word drew fish to the same net, cast by the same disciples, from the same boat—resulting in a miraculously huge catch, twice!
So, if the Lord gives you a direction, may you be encouraged to follow fully as Peter did in Luke 5: 5 (“yet at Your word I will”). Remember Jesus can even change circumstances and give fruition to your effort, even the same ones.

COR WEEKLY PRAYER POINTERS | 15-20 JUNE 2026
Pray for the World: Iran-US War
Recent reports indicate renewed U.S. strikes on Iranian targets, Iranian retaliatory actions across the Gulf region, and growing concerns that the fragile ceasefire may collapse into a broader regional conflict. At the same time, diplomatic efforts continue, though under considerable strain. Pray that leaders on all sides would resist the logic of vengeance and retaliation. Pray that military actions would not spiral into a wider regional war. Pray for successful diplomatic efforts that can create space for lasting peace rather than merely temporary ceasefires. Pray that channels of communication remain open even amidst hostility.
Pray For Singapore: Jesus Christ Superstar
Base Entertainment Asia’s Jesus Christ Superstar musical has been given an Advisory 16 rating by the Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA), with the consumer advice of "Some Mature Content", amid concerns over religious sensitivities. Pray that Christian response will neither be reactionary condemnation nor uncritical acceptance, but prayerful engagement. The musical raises profound questions about Jesus, discipleship, power, betrayal, and faith which can become opportunities for spiritual reflection and witness. Pray that viewers would encounter the real Jesus. Pray that the musical would awaken curiosity about Christ. Pray that viewers would be moved to read the Gospels for themselves. Pray that questions raised by the production would lead people toward a deeper search for truth.
Pray for the Church: St George’s Church (SGC)
St George’s Church currently occupies its land under a Temporary Occupation Licence (TOL) renewed every three years. The Diocesan Synod recently approved the application to the Singapore Land Authority for the alienation of the land parcel on a 60-year lease, for use as a Place of Worship. Pray for successful application and the necessary funds to be raised for this project that the church may continue its ministry in the present site.
Pray for Chapel of the Resurrection – A New Heart
As God promises to give His people a new heart and a new spirit (Ezek. 36:26), pray that COR may become a community marked by attentiveness to God, one another, and His work among us in the ordinary rhythms of daily life.
WEEKLY DEVOTION: 15 JUNE
God Is Love
The doctrine of the Trinity is not an abstract speculation detached from spiritual life. Rather, it is the Church's attempt to articulate God's self-revelation through Scripture, the incarnation of Jesus Christ, and the abiding presence of the Holy Spirit. The God whom Israel worshipped as Creator and Lord has made Himself known in the Son and remains present to His people through the Spirit. Christianity therefore confesses that the one God exists eternally as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—three Persons united in one divine life.
This means that God's very being is communion. God is not merely loving; God is love. Love requires relationship, for there can be no love without a lover and a beloved. Yet Richard of St. Victor (1110–1173) observed that perfect love does not remain enclosed between two. Love delights in being shared. Thus, alongside the lover and the beloved, there is the condilectus—the co-beloved who is loved in common.
Richard argued that if God were only one Person, He could be perfectly good, but He could not be love in its fullest sense. If God were two Persons, there could be mutual love, but perfect love seeks to share its joy. Just as parents delight together in their child, so perfect love overflows toward another. For Richard, this helps explain why the fullness of divine love is revealed in the Trinity. The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit exist in an eternal communion of self-giving, receiving, and shared delight.
Within the life of God, love is never static or self-contained. Each Person glorifies the others, delights in the others, and shares in the joy of the others. Divine life is an eternal movement of self-giving love, mutual indwelling, and perfect communion. God is love because God is Trinity.
The wonder of the Gospel is that this divine communion does not remain closed upon itself. Through Christ and in the power of the Spirit, we are invited into this eternal fellowship of love. Salvation is therefore more than forgiveness of sins; it is participation in the life of the Triune God. We are drawn into the Father's love for the Son, the Son's love for the Father, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit. In Christ, we become God's beloved people, welcomed into the eternal exchange of divine love that has existed from before the foundation of the world.

COR WEEKLY PRAYER POINTERS | 8-13 JUNE 2026
Pray for the World: Ebola Outbreak
A new outbreak of the rare and often severe Bundibugyo ebolavirus was confirmed in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, quickly spreading to neighbouring Uganda. Unlike the more common Zaire strain, there is no approved vaccine or specific treatment for this strain, making containment extremely difficult. Pray for the safety of healthcare workers and responders who are at high risk of infection. Pray for God’s consolation upon the sick, the bereaved, and communities in fear, for the breaking of transmission chains, and for the development of effective medical countermeasures.
Pray For Singapore: Vigilance against Scams
At least S$3.6 million were lost in investment scams involving chat groups since May this year. Victims have been lured by fake social media advertisements that purportedly offer opportunities to learn about investing. Scammers then posed as "mentors", providing advice or "bonuses" to entice the victims to start investing who only realised they had been scammed when they were unable to withdraw their "profits" or when the scammers became uncontactable. Pray for vigilance amongst Singaporeans especially the vulnerable and for effective collaborations across borders to crackdown on the scam operators.
Pray for the Church: Anglican Preschool Services (APS)
Pray for God’s continued guidance upon APS to remain faithful to His calling and be a gentle witness in the communities. Ask for wisdom to strengthen governance, leadership, and financial sustainability. Pray for the educators and leaders to abide deeply in Christ and reflect His love in their care, and for the children to grow secure in their God-given identity.
Pray for Chapel of the Resurrection: Custodianship of Diocesan Centre Building
Uphold the Parochial Church Council in prayer as the members deliberate over the matter and discern God’s will for COR. Pray for unity, openness and faith to follow the Lord’s leading. Pray for an enriching and maturing experience to grow in faith and discernment together.
COR WEEKLY DEVOTION: 8 JUNE 2026
Blessed!
‘Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.’ – Matthew 5:8
Recently, thousands of adoring fans gathered at a shopping mall in China to catch a glimpse of Chinese celebrity and ‘Pursuit of Jade’ star, Zhang Linghe. Such was the fans’ enthusiasm that they accidentally shattered a glass door, leading to minor injuries for a few individuals. The promotional event was eventually cancelled, leading to much disappointment to those who had travelled long distances to see their celebrity idol.
Clearly, many people would consider Zhang to be a man who is greatly blessed. With his charming looks, slim physique, acting talents, tremendous popularity and great wealth, he would certainly be considered by many people to be successful, fortunate, blessed and worthy to be congratulated!
This led me to wonder, what do we truly (and honestly) consider as blessings? This is an important question because we naturally gravitate towards and strive for the blessings or goals that we hope to possess.
It is no surprise that this world defines blessings very different from the Bible. In fact, a ‘worldly beatitude’ might look something like this:
Blessed are the rich for they shall enjoy many pleasures
Blessed are the intelligent for they shall have good jobs
Blessed are the good-looking for they shall be popular
Blessed are the eloquent for they shall be influential
Blessed are the scheming for they shall have power
However, God defines blessings very different. Matthew 5:2-11 tells us that, for example, that it is the ‘poor in spirit’, ‘those who mourn’, ‘the meek’, ‘the merciful’ and ‘the peacemakers’ who are considered blessed. In particular, Matthew 5:8 says, ‘blessed are the pure for they shall see God.’
Pure: to be unadulterated. It refers to the person who is single minded, undistracted, devoted and sincere in finding God. Such a person is blessed because he/she receives the greatest reward of all – God Himself.
Worldly blessings eventually fade, but the one who finds God is truly someone worthy to be congratulated; for he/she has gained an eternal treasure. He/she is truly blessed! Today, let us align our hearts towards God! Let’s do our best to pursue Him wholeheartedly and make Him our heart’s greatest treasure of all!

WEEKLY DEVOTION: 1 JUNE 2026 | God and Us Building
Psalms 27:1 “Unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it labour in vain. Unless the Lord watches over the city, the watchman stays awake in vain.”
Question: who is the one building the house? Is it the Lord or “those who build it”?
We often use this verse as a prayer for God to build the house. It reminds us that so much in life – whether ministry in church or our own personal lives – is not about what we can do. Rather, God is in sovereign control.
This is well and good. Yet, such a line of logic interprets Psalm 27:1 as saying God alone builds the house. However, this is not what David wrote. It does not say that the builders need not labour and build. Rather, their efforts are all done in vain. The builders’ efforts are only fruitful when God builds with them. Ps 27:1 articulated in its reverse logic is saying that when the Lord builds the house, we (the labourers) – our efforts – labour fruitfully. Psalm 27:1 was carefully written.
This verse emphasises the divine mystery of how God works, and yet we as His people have a part to play. We do not know the exact percentage or the precise mechanics of things, but we only know that there must be that dual work taking place – God’s work and our work.
I feel that this is a good reminder with the upcoming SWS and MSS retreat this weekend. As a church, whether or not we are the ones attending, we have a role. We can all be praying in faith for God to move mightilyand do His work amongst us. For the people attending, we too can take time to prepare ourselves. We can come with open and soft hearts. We should all do the same for the SPS retreat later this year too.
May we have a great time of encountering God afresh at the retreat!

COR WEEKLY PRAYER POINTERS | 1-6 JUNE 2026
Pray for the World: Ethiopia
The nation has been struggling through a succession of social, political, and economic crises. The major ethnic groups (Amhara, Tigrinya, Oromo, Somali, Afar) divide themselves largely by geographic region, which gives each more independence at the expense of national unity. As a result, Ethiopia’s stability and power balances are precarious. Corruption increased with economic growth, and a wide gap now exists between the few who are rich and the many who are poor. In the years following 2020, devastating civil conflict – along ethnic lines – erased much of the progress of recent years. The Tigray region was subject to what many describe as genocide. While the violence has abated somewhat, the humanitarian crisis that followed afflicted many millions of people. Pray for a peace that offers esteem to every region and ethnic group while also enabling a genuine national unity.
Pray For Singapore: June School Holidays
As the children take a break from school in June, pray for good family time and bonding. Ask God to refresh our children and educators in spirit, soul and body. Pray for journey mercy for all who are travelling.
Pray for the Church: Anglican Family Centre (AFC)
AFC is missioned to protect and serve women and children who are victims of domestic violence, regardless of race, culture or religion. Pray for the residents of the shelter to receive mental, emotional and practical care in their lives. Pray for AFC to be a safe space for protection and recuperation. Pray for timely and appropriate interventions to empower the clients to regain normalcy in their lives.
Pray for Chapel of the Resurrection: SWS-MSS Retreat
Pray for the inaugural SWS-MSS Retreat from 6-8 June in Renaissance Hotel, Johor Bahru. Pray for the speakers, Rev Jeremy Joe Tan, Ps Kelvin Chua and Rev David Lee as they bring the word of God. Pray for open hearts to receive a new heart for God, one another and the world.
