Visit us in Venice for Sonic Acts' collaboration with La Biennale di Venezia: Anthea Caddy and Marcin Pietruszewski’s Love Numbers, a newly co-commissioned sound installation, and La notte di Sonic Acts, an afterhours programme of live performances and DJ sets. *16–29 October* Designed for cello, synthetic sound and parabolic loudspeakers, Love Numbers explores cosmological forces of the Sun and Moon that form multiple opposing thermal and gravitational pulls in the Earth’s atmosphere. The piece gets its name from a set of parameters introduced in 1909 by English mathematician Augustus Love, used to identify the overall elastic response of the Earth to the tides. *20 October* Also taking place at Teatro alle Tese, La notte di Sonic Acts features live performances by Aya, Emme, S280F, Yen Tech, alongside DJ sets by Soft Break and snufkin. 'The hydrophonic feedback that you can hear first arose as an error. I was trying to avoid it, but it sounded too beautiful to cut. That was a big turning point. I started to embrace the spatial and environmental factors, and take risks and chances, employing them as compositional methods. 🚢 On 19 May join Sonic Acts and FieldARTS at Ruigoord for a special day and evening of experimental sound art, lecture-performances, workshops, and brackish debauchery. At the edge of Petroleumhaven, on the banks of the IJ River is a logistical field bearing the future ecologies of Western Europe. Drawing together artistic and critical practices, this collaborative event presents a grounded and brackish encounter with a logistical infrastructure central to the global trade of raw materials, ongoing environmental injustice, dispossession, and financial violence. → Further info coming soon! 🚣 Our open call for The Lives of Deltas x Overexposed residency programme has been extended! At the delta, the power of industrialisation, digitalisation, food precarity, sea level rise, volatile weather conditions, and other effects of global warming can be felt like nowhere else. This year's artist-in-residence will respond to the key question underlying The Lives of Deltas programme: how can ecological approaches to pollution and pollination re-frame interspecies networks in the contemporary urban delta? This fully funded residency takes place both in Utrecht and online from 20 April to 20 May 2023. Including a fee of €2,500 and travel expenses within the Netherlands, this position offers artists a unique opportunity to expand their creative practice and work on assignments with a small group of MA students. 🇪🇺 We are thrilled to announce that Re-Imagine Europe, a collaboration of fourteen interdisciplinary art organisations across Europe, has received support from the Creative Europe programme. 🎒To celebrate the launch of the educational platform Soundsweird, Sonic Acts invites youth workers, music professionals, educators and teachers to explore pedagogical approaches to making sound and experimental music with adolescents. Participants will learn more about the Soundsweird project, joining in two workshop sessions led by artists Andreas Kühne and Yara Said. The gathering culminates in a round table discussion moderated by Iva Jankovic, exploring the challenges faced in Amsterdam youth work today.
